    Accattone (1961) 7/10

Somehow expected more than the film offers. Iíd read great things about director Pier Paolo Pasolini, and this Blu-ray seemed the best way to see his work. What I did enjoy about the film was the insight into life back then, it really did feel like seeing a time when thatís how things were back then, there.

Picture quality is good for 1961, although it is black and white.

For Your Eyes Only -8/10 (Film) 10/10 (BR presentation)

This is part of the Bond 50 box set. The whole packaging is just brilliant and there's a slot for the Skyfall BR as well. Superb idea.

The quality of the picture and sound is as good as I'd hoped it would be. A bit late now, so didn't check out the extras on the disc.

Decided to watch this as this was the first 007 film I saw at the cinema.

Edit: The packaging contains 2 book like wallets. Open it up and there's a couple of BR on each page. With a picture of the main Bond girl next to it.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

    Alien looks stunning on bluray.
SpeedRacer is also very good, lots of bright primary colours.

I'm going to have to pick this up. There's still a number of the newer Bonds films I've never seen. The only 3 films I own on DVD are The Spy Who Loved Me (my favourite Bond) For Your Eyes Only (my 2nd favourite Bond) and A View To A Kill (which I'm not so keen on).

Opps, there's another, Quantum of Solace. Not good this film.

The only Bond film I got to see at the Cinema on release was Moonraker, and I quite like this Bond film.

Moonraker is dreadful pap. Dr No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger. They're the best imo.

Sky are launching Sky Movies 007. Bond all day, every day.

Not sure about Dr No. Hadn't quite hit its stride yet. Some very dodgy acting and the pacing is a bit all over the place. That whole metal dragon thing is just weird.

Would take Thunderball and You Only Live Twice over it any day for Connery, and Live and Let Die is the best Moore one and is probably up there. Spy Who Loved Me get points for the best villain although Moore had turned super cheesy and old and fat by that point.

It's probably because I know the book quite well. And Ursula. That scene alone elevates it imo! I actually really like OHMSS as a film, even if Lazenby is a crap Bond. Really poignant.

Yeah it's a good film, although yeah, I cam never quite get used to Lazenby. I don't agree he's the most accurate to Fleming's Bond as some claim. That bit gay fight scene on the beach is a little weird as well.

Me and Mrs Hermit watched some old Sean Connery Bond films a while back. It's strange, but neither of us remembered him being quite so rapey. It was quite shocking really.

Yeah but he knows they want it really. They just need to be coerced with force.

I thought it was Dalton who was believed to be the closest? They all become a bit of a pastiche of themselves after a while, which is why they need changing regularly. Just hoping Skyfall is better than QoS, which was tragically dull.

If a trailer's length is a measure of the film's quality (the longer it is, the worse it is), then I have a feeling that Skyfall will be more QoS than Casino Royale.

Really hope I'm wrong, although Javier Bardem's wig is a big worry for me.

QoS felt like it was made by a director that doesn't understand action or spy films so failed to be good at either. I think Mendes is a much better director at both of them and they haven't had to rush it so I'm not too worried.

Really fucked off it's not out until Monday. I've got a free house on Sunday night and it would be the perfect way to spend it.

Should've ordered it from Play.com. They usually turn up on the Saturday.

I love the way Lazenby delivers, "this wouldn't have happened to the other guy", in OHMSS, alluding to the possibility that James Bond is just a codename which carries on to other agents.

    Always makes me smile.

Never thought that was really what he's alluding to. It's just a little 4th wall joke that's been turned into something else.

Even if it's a fourth wall joke, it's still making the same point.

It has a really lovely transfer, and freed from the restrictions of 3D, it's bright and crisp.

I can't warn you guys enough -- don't buy Devil on blu-ray. Regardless of what you think of the film (I love it), the extras are awful. Three making of vignettes that are each about 3 minutes long. Rrrrubbish.

It was an average film for me but Avengers is still truly beautiful in HD to be fair and the finale is just stunning, me and the mrs both thought it was average but still quite fancy the blu for that reason.

It's a reference quality disc in my opinion.

Show anyone this and the Total Recall remaster on a decent telly and they'll be converted to Blu in a heartbeat.

Is it worth watching in 3D then? I've tried one or two 3D's but always flick back to the sharper gorgeous 2D (using the JVC x30 projector) ...

I personally think the 3D detracts from the experience. The opening sequence is dark and therefore barely watchable with glasses on.

Don't bother with Avengers in 3D, it was added in post-production and does nothing to improve the film. I wouldn't say it ruins it either, it's just completely pointless.
