You need to be able to run Combined Ops sherpa (which is OA & Arma2 combined - if you have both but haven't set up CO, how to set it up is earlier in the thread) but no mods necessary. As for framerate I'd say it sounds a little low but it depends how your GPU & in-game settings are set up. Try reducing draw distance, lowering texture levels etc and try medium bitmaps in Catalyst or Nvidia equivalent. Make sure you're patched to latest version etc.

If you want to tag along tonight add century_rain on Steam and send me a message tonight, games start around half 7 or so.

Make sure its patched up to date, Post Processing and AA kill performance, disable them and then start tweaking.

Game froze after the desync in the first zombie mission so I've decided to call it quits for the night. Some good games though fellas!

yup. I enjoyed that. I realised afterwards that the reason I couldn't hit anything was that I'd been too optimistic with my settings. Much easier with a smoother framerate.

Sorry if I was a bit of a liability, especially at the start of our first mission :) Didn't know it was a good idea to RUN LIKE HELL!

There's a chance I might not be home in time for tonight's game, so would someone else like to volunteer to host etc? I'm sure the chaps won't mind you all using the TS as usual if I don't make it back in time.

I'll try and post from my phone if it looks like I'm running late/early. Hopefully catch some of you tonight :D

No problems using the TS, pure can probably host, his PC and connection is beefy enough.

Join the TS whenever, there'll be people around after 6, if there's no one on don't quit out of people will keep missing each other.

Not sure if anything happened last night but I was in bed pretty early anyhow.

Also, had quite an odd experience earlier in the day playing the single player missions where you pilot the Apache and end up crashing after a nuclear strike.

I was nearing the end of the mission fighting my way through the small village near the fishing port
and I fucking swear I could hear whales singing everything 15 seconds ago. I even turned down the volume momentarily to see if the sound was for some reason coming from my bedroom but it kept on going till I eventually got gunned down. Went through the level again and didn't experience the odd sounds.

    Anyone else experienced this?

    Spoilers mate!

Can't say I've experienced that, but I've not played much of this game (sp or mp)

I've been honing my aircraft skills. I can quite competently fly and land most of them now. I even did a barrel roll in a C-130J. I can also land fighters on an aircraft carrier. This is made possible by the game automatically killing your speed to zero when you hit the deck. But it also means you can't take off unless you have VTOL capability. Just to see if I could, I also managed to land an F-35B onto a carrier sideways using vectored thrust . It was a sloppy attempt as you don't lose forward momentum as rapidly as a chopper but I managed it.

I was also looking at a bunch of scripts to turn the C-130J into an AC-130 with Player operable guns. There's a couple of really excellent SP ones out there. They even add IR strobes to friendlies so you can avoid blue on blue. Would love to make an MP mission where one player gives air support from it while the rest of the squad make their way to extraction.

I also saw a script that lets you load vehicles into a C-130J and then lets you cargo drop them. I'd love to make a mission where you HALO drop a squad, then drop a HummVee that doubles as a supply crate. The squad will locate a viable DZ on the ground and mark it with smoke. The squad then rescues a VIP and then captures an airbase. The plane can then land, reload the Hummer and exfiltrate. I could also see about adding a camera (but not guns) to the plane too to allow spotting and laser tagging.

    Welcome back Randell! \o/

Tiger - we've got one mission where the AC-130 is used but something like you describe would be wicked. :D

Looking forward to tonight, hope to see plenty of you there!

I really need a TrackIR setup, just so I don't land on any houses by accident. Looking for the smoke would be easier too.

One AC-130 mod I've looked at is great to use but is very bloaty as it's chouck full of sound clips. I'll look at some others. Might put one into the Search and Rescue mission if I can, even things up a bit. :p

I made a very rough version of a C-130 air drop and pickup mission. No enemies, just wanted a feel of how it'd work. If you load a vehicle with people before loading it onto the plane you can drop it with the people in it. Saves time as there's no need to regroup.

There are other vehicle loading scripts I have yet to play with, inclusing stuff like this!

My TrackIR kept going crazy at first. I need to redo the masking tape on the trackclip part. It's a cool piece of kit, but unfortunately seems to be lacking a lot in build quality.

Looks as though people have managed to get Free Track working. Just ordered a cheap but sufficient webcam that has a night mode that automatically kicks in when light deprived and has its own IR/white source.

I'd use a Wiimote but I don't have Bluetooth on the desktop. I'd also have to make an LED clip or an IR source for a reflective solution. I've been looking at custom clips and I saw one that simply uses document clips on a cap with reflective tape. Simple, elegant and super-effective. Plus, you can throw it in a bag and not worry about it breaking.

you could buy a bluetooth usb thingy for a couple of quid on amazon, save yourself some money http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=usb+bluetooth+dongle&x=0&y=0

I need a proper webcam anyway. Although using the Wiimote has benefits. Managed to find some reflective material today and tried it with the Xbox Live Vision camera. The material is a strip of dayglo fabric with a thinner strip of reflective covering. In ambient light the dayglo is better and with a strong light source the reflective stuff is better. Just been using a 1 point setup with the dayglo. Works okayish working off the screen glare but obviously nowhere near ideal.

I tried it with a lamp behind the camera and with reflective stuff, that worked really well but I can't use that setup as the lamp has a transformer in the base and I'm using a CRT. The only place to put it is on the CRT. Once I'm working with the IR properties of the new webcam and not visible light it should be fine and dandy.

Oh, and FreeTrack worked with ArmA 2 right away. ArmA will crash on the first boot with FT running because FT throws up a dialogue box when you run a new FreeTrack/TrackIR compatible program. Once in ArmA 2 Free Track will appear in the controllers window.

Camera arrived. Got a reflective armband, chopped it into pieces and using fold-back clips attached one to the front of the peak of a cap. The square of reflective fabric is pinched so it's quite bulbous and viewable from a lot of angles. After setting the exposure setting for the camera right down the reflector is the only thing visible. Didn't even need to make a visible light filter.

I made an SP map on Zagrabad where you safely escort a squad across town to the airport while in your AC-130 (LDL's AC130 script). Tweaked the fog setting so that you don't see incoming vehicles. It's all waypoints and triggers at the momnent so it's the same every time. Next step is to script in random incoming squads and vehicles. Once that works, I'll make it multiplayer. Had a go playing as a squad member with an AI AC-130 to see what that felt like. It's cool watching a heli coming in, about to drop off a bunch of guys and then it gets slotted by a 40mm shell right in front of you.

If I can get it to work in Jolly Green, I'll give the Squad Leader and the Pilot the option to call an AI AC-130 just once. It requires a map-click so either the pilot needs to know the squad's location or the squad needs to find a map or find a GPS and relay the co-ords to the pilot to call it in. The AI one takes 90s to turn up and only hangs around for 150s, which should give enough time for evac. These numbers are tweakable, as is the ammo available on the plane.
