As I was cycling through the park the other day I spotted a guy doing inverted push ups on the bike rack - hanging from the horizontal of one rack and hooking his legs over the next rack. Seemed like a good idea if you wanted to work your biceps rather than your triceps.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Heh, possibly, but I do a load of other stuff as well.

I do the push-ups on non-gym days and then I work them into a sort of circuit routine, or at least, I did. Getting a bit tough now, so doing the pushups first, before going onto the rest.

Used this more as something to keep me motivated and still working out while I'm recovering from stress fractures in my legs.

Where's sport when you need a comedy picture?

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

I up for this... I'll try my initial test tonight but I can on average do about 25-30. Never really been able to improve on that so hopefully having a plan will help.

Week 1 day 1 done. That was easier than expected. I'm still in the shit category though. The initial test was laughable at best. Just gotta keep at it now I suppose.

31 at the end of week 2. Given I managed about 10 at the start, I think it's having an impact!
That's a hell of an improvement!
Missed this, it's as much to do with a half-hearted attempt first time out I suspect. Wk3D2 at lunch....

    Anyone managed the 100 yet?

I've had to repeat pretty much every week so far. On week 5 for the second time now and it's still bloody hard work...

Need to get back on this, it took a back seat the last week.

Yeah, I need to start wk3 again I think. Not sure 6 days in between is what they had in mind!

Just done day 2 of week 2. It like my arms don't hurt now, they just feel, well, kind of warm after doing the set. I'm pretty sure week 3 will be a struggle for me as I can only do the minimum of each last set. I'm amazed how much stronger my arms feel though. I'm intrigued to see how well I do at the end of week 2's exhaustion test. I doubt it'll be loads but this was definitely a good idea.

I've "defected" to another program, did this a couple of years ago and stopped at late W4/early W5. Picked it up again recently but ran into the same difficulty wall again. Basically, the testing puts me at a level that is too high for me and the difficulty ramps up too fast.

So anyway, what I'm trying now is this, based on a test of 35 good pushups:
    1. Test your honest MAX and write it down (TEST)
    2. Do 60% of MAX for 1 week (NORM)
    3. Increase 60% of MAX with 1 PU daily for 1 week (INCR)
    4. Rest one day and do only 5-10 PUs (REST)
    5. GOTO 1

Well, I made it up to week 6 day 1, went on holiday for a few weeks and now I'm struggling through week 3 again...

Not sure I can be bothered redoing all that. Thinking about trying the 20 pull up challenge instead.

I can do 40 on my knuckles. Not following this programme though. Going for 50.

I drive an automatic 'cause I'm too cool to change gears.

Which of these 2 are doing PUs correctly - or are they both correct for different purposes?

I used to do elbows out, but heard that was wrong. I can do a lot more of them that way, though.

Yeah I used to do elbows out too.

When I started doing this challenge I swapped to what I think is the correct form, but found the more knackered I got, the more I'd swap back to my old ways.

I can't help but think this system is flawed.

Every time the app springs the do-as-many-as-possible test on me, the regime it gives me afterwards is always a massive step backwards.

I've just gone from doing 170 press-ups a day to 55. WTF? It's pretty much put me back from week 7 to week 4.

I also find the last rep to be a ridiculously high number and usually have to break it up into two sets. The most I've managed in one go is 35, yet it seems to think I should be able to do 50?

Its a very flawed app and programme from what I read. People would probably be better just doing 3 sets to failure every other day? Thats easy to remember and no faffing on with apps.

Add inverted rows (as mentioned above) and pullups and you'll be on your way.

    Bump.

I downloaded a press up app from the Google store thing and set my target to 100. No idea if it's any good - at the moment, it's telling me to do lots of sets of 16-21 press ups with a 75 second gap between each one.

This thread rises more often than I do off the floor. Am considering giving this another bash - it was a shoulder injury that curtailed it last time.

Getting married in August and I'd like to be as thin and buff as my wallet is going to be by then.
