I think it's a pretty universal thing actually, I don't know anyone that thinks anything sounds like anything other than tinny at best.

Just had a quick goog http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/ketamine/ketamine_faq.shtml

    PSYCHEDELIC INDICATIONS :
Ketamine does not treat music so well. Expect a narrowing of your auditory bandwidth. You will selectively lose frequencies. Use mellow music with a psychedelic flavor, and keep the volume less than loud because your perception of overall volume will increase.

I've seen people have pretty bad episodes while listening to hectic stuff, so again I'm just going to dismiss your claims as nonsense.

Nothing is nice on ketamine. Nothing. Unless you enjoy watching your head slowly turn the same as the girls on the left.

From the same page of Erowid:
    Music is very powerful.

In a converse experience to you, I know lots of people who enjoy the combination. Especially people who are heavily into the dubbier side of music. You can refuse to accept my experience based on over a decade of mashed up raving and 5 years working in the dance music scene if you want, but it's not very logical.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Yeah, so have I. Except for over 2 decades. I used to organise fortnightly events for the party people (crusties basically) for 10 years.

Or rather I have at least. No doubt you're going to try and one up on that too.

Hey Bob :-P I've been raving for >2 decades, just never took more than weed, speed and booze when out and about until 2001. Different scenes. Psychedelics and crowds don't really mix for me. Euphorics came later.

For the sake of arguments, and to avoid this becoming even more of a mash-off, I'll change the trigger post slightly to reflect that it's just my opinion - but I stand by it. Sat blissfully k-ed up on the dancefloor for ~2 hours at my last birthday absolutely loving the drum & bass & dubstep my friends were putting down, it works for me.

Still think dubstep sounds better to the intoxicated ear than the straight one, and the louder the better. I think this is true of a lot of dance music though.

Wait, so you "one up" me and then complain I'm going to do it to you? :) I'm curious, who did you run parties for? (genuine question, not assault)

It seems obvious to me that the only way this argument can be settled, is with a dance off.

Independant stuff, I know a lot of DJs, people with sound systems, club owners and so on. Clubs are easy, you hire the venue and pay for it with the money you take on the door and share the rest between yourself and the DJs.

You don't have to be affiliated with anything.

OK, I was just wondering which sound systems and where / when. I might have gone to some of them, or worked with them since. Most likely not, but it's a small world, and a lot of the crustier people are still about.

edit: Not seeking to challenge, I just like making connections. I miss that world. I was poor, but it was so much fun.

I think we just called it whatever sprung to mind that week while making the fliers. The only recurring one was Skirmish. It was mostly pretty word of mouth and all in Reading at places like Chatham Street Boxing Club and the amusingly named Club Tropicana over the road. Did a couple in the Central Club and three or four in the After Dark. Nirvana played there on their first UK tour, so I can't be in bad company. Did quite a few in the woods around places like Wokingham and Bagshot when I started, all you needed then was a mobile phone and a bit of word of mouth, but they tended to be free.

The stuff we played was an odd mix of drum and bass/jungle and deep house because my mate who was the main DJ had pretensions to being something better some day. He's part owner of a club in Madrid now and is a producer, so he managed it.

The new Burial EP is astounding.

He's definitely making a strong attempt to move himself away from the nasty label Dubstep has earned itself recently and make more intelligent electronic music, but it still has that nice grimey, street sound to it as well.

Dubstep seems to be a creative outlet for people with no actual musical talent whatsoever
