    Officially announced

So what are we hoping will be added? And what should be left out from the first game (aside from the aliens)?

I am kinda disappointed that its a stand alone expansion instead of a full blown sequel but as long as its about six or seven hours I am OK with it.

Also uneasy with "retelling" bit. I hope its not an excuse to recycle the same old SP maps and pass it off as an expansion.

You didn't see an awful lot of what Psycho got up to so there's plenty of scope for new areas. Hopefully he didn't have too much to do with the aliens as that's what Nomad go up to so more fun with North Koreans!

I think making a parallel story is a great idea - hopefully more set piece fights with the KPA and less alien nonsense.

Sure, I'd like to see where they intend to take the Crysis story next, but this is one expansion I'm actually really interested in - if it lives up to the first two-thirds of the first game, it'll be great.

Apart from the performance hit I really didn't mind the aliens stuff. In fact the level where you're just walking through the weird environment, before encountering any actual aliens, was quite nicely realised I thought.

More lines involving shouting "That's BOLLOCKS and you know it!" said by the guy doing his best Jason Statham impression are needed, for sure.

Truth be told, I'd just be happy with more of the same. Creeping around the jungle roughing up Koreans, the odd vehicle bit.
Maybe expanding on the dynamic present in the bit where you have to defend the downed V/STOL and rescue the girl. It was nice having a bit of friendly AI about that at least looked and sounded like it was doing something useful.

Perhaps if you took control of a Korean soldier (with or without the nanosuit), or perhaps even an alien (or an alien virus, taking control of vehicles, Koreans outfitted in nanosuits, and so on and so forth), it'd make this upcoming expansion pack have more potential than it does now.

I really, really hope this turns out to just be a cock up on the part of the art department, at least Crytek says not to be too concerned yet but just say no to GFWL!

ive seen plenty of games with mock-up box art featuring that tag that have nout to do with it, so dont worry. Age of Conan had plenty of box-shots with the live tag, for instance.

edit: just seen your edit, and the article's edit. So yeah!

To be honest now that i've got a live account set up, GfWL doesn't bother me THAT much, but it should be an optional extra, not enforced.

I'd rather they put through steamworks, obv.

Holy crap this looks good. I loved the original and more of the same will do just fine! Not really that worried about more 'alien-stuff' as I didn't really mind it in the first one but I would DEFINATELY like to see more weapons, enemies and some more urban, destructible environments in which to act-out my own little action movie :D

Looking at those screens certainly fills me with excitement! Lets hope we get more enemy nano-suit action too, loved fighting those guys but they just didn't use them enough.

Hated the first game, bored me to tears. Very pretty though and it was a nice test of my new machine. =)

They should have just wrote in DX8 support like STALKER did, that looked pretty swish on low where crysis looked shit on low.

The optimisation must be a result of porting the cryengine2 tot the Xbox and then porting it back to the pc.

With any luck they've finally taken the whole non-human enemy gripes into consideration. I really don't want to be shooting monkeys, squidies or any other homosexical pretend crap. Okay, thanks.

Play has started taking pre-orders at the princely sum of 15, RRP is 20, officially out on September 12th in Europe, despite what Play is saying.

After the disappointment of Spore, I am looking forward to some proper gun-toting mayhem this weekend. Hopefully the release dates are correct and it really is out on the 12th!

I wonder how bad the DRM is going to be on this one.

Ea are only publishing crysis so they will have no say in the DRM department, it will be up to crytek what they put on.

Just FYI, the DRM is apparently identical to Spore - three activations + SecuROM 7.

Awesome. I gave up on the first one as soon as I started going through the mine as I figured it'd be fighting mostly nanosoldiers and aliens, who had been a bit lame up to that point. Still, will pick it up if its that good.

    Edit: DRM isn't awesome, obviously.
