I wouldn't use them if you are in a hurry, but they can be the cheapest places to get stuff from, in which case I use them. PlayUSA are pretty good if the items are less than import duty.

But yeah, the website has been shit today. I wasn't sure if it was just me, but I haven't been able access their site since lunchtime.

I just tried and it loaded like normal, maybe just a problem at your end?

I ordered Everybody's Golf 2 from them last monday morning and not only did they not send it until Friday; it still hasn't turned up. Pretty rubbish really.

What did it say on the order page though Slint? Generally if it's going to take a few days until they get something back in stock and despatch it then it'll say below the buy button.

And it'll probably arrive tomorrow. They send stuff second class from Jersey, so it takes 3 days minimum for stuff to turn up.

Play have always been quite slow for me. Amazon are ultra-fast - I pick the free delivery and usually get the item the next day.

It said it was 'in stock' on the Monday and was in 'packing' until Friday which is pretty slack, especially since in the past I'd ordered one or two things from there that came the very next day.

I have ordered loads of stuff from Play in the past and it's never usually taken more than three days from ordering to turn up but this time it's 9 days and counting!

Hmm must be just a hiccup with that particular order then. Hopefully it'll arrive soon!

I would hope so, but the last thing I wanted to order from them was Metal Gear Solid PW for PSP which I'd had pre-ordered for ages and they still hadn't posted until several days after it's release.

Ended up cancelling that one and just getting it elsewhere so maybe it's revenge haha

As a long term Play customer I'm normally the first to jump to their defence, but they have been shocking with delivery times with my last few orders and pre-orders. Standards are definitely slipping.

I'll never get my Orc looking the same again.

My order turned up finally, but no one in their right minds would consider 10 days to be anything other than a snails pace.

My last two orders will make me seriously consider not ordering from them for a while unless they improve on that enormously.

Definitely not ordering anything I ever want for release day that's for sure.

I'm trying to arrange a return for a jacket, bought from Play a few days ago.

Apparently there should be a 'return my item' option somewhere - but I can't see it.

Is this a glitch with my account, or has anyone else been having a problem?

I've just been waiting on the phone for half an hour, but I can't get through.

Ordered a DVD from them a week or two ago and paid extra for first class post and it still took 4 working days to arrive.

    @caligari
    Log in your account.
    Select "Order History".
Find the order in question in the list and click "View order details".
You should be able to see a "Return this item" link on the bottom of the page under "Available actions". If such link does not exist, the return period could have expired, in which case I'd suggest emailing customer support.

    Hope that helps.

I'm usually a bit fearful of ordering anything that's urgent as previous orders took over a week.

Well, I ordered Saints Row 3 on Monday night and even with the Chrimbo post it turned up today - most chuffed! Might be a one off, but looks like they're getting their arses into gear.

I once ordered metro 2033 and halo reach from them well halo came within 3 days of my order but metro didn't arrive for nearly 2 weeks.
  • Deleted user 9 September 2012 14:46:29
You're lucky - my Halo Reach per-order never even showed up full stop. Ended up buying it from Blockbuster in town instead.

No danger of people not getting their Play orders in future.

Sad to see really, I've been a customer of theirs since they started and they even honoured my cheap pre-order of STALKER that went on for what felt like a millennium.

Indeed, there was a time when I ordered practically everything from there. But over the last couple of years it's just sort of gradually faded away.

Massively overpriced, a poor selection and bad service. I used to swear by them but Amazon has them beaten in every respect. Hopefully my Play points that I get from my credit card will continue to be a thing.

I kind of stopped when they went through a really slack phase and then i started to hear about second-hand pube ridden games being sent out as new and i avoided them like scabies.

Shame to see them go as i was a big customer at one time.

Back in the days when European DVD releases were rubbish compared to the US versions I ordered all my films from Play. But not used the company anywhere near as much in recent times.

    Turning into ebay then.

I use to buy from them all the time years ago but prices started to get worse and maybe bought two things in the last 4 years from them which is telling.

Amazon is getting to be too much of a monster, hopefully enough competition keeps them in line because it might be only a matter of time before their prices go up.

I did cut back on my Play spends in recent times as Amazon basically price matched, they certainly were great for R1 DVDs back in the day.

My first order (out of 504):

    02 Oct 2000
    Order no:xxxxxx Item price: 17.99
Fight Club - Special Edition - 2 Disc Set (Region 1 DVD)
    Sold by: Play.com Dispatched: 03 Oct 2000
They were great for my PS3 though, Skylanders bundle just before Christmas for 100!

    edit: here's the STALKER pre-order, 3 years!

    22 Mar 2004
    Order no:xxxxxxx Item price:17.99
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl - Limited Edition Tin (PC Games)
    Sold by: Play.com Dispatched: 20 Mar 2007

I have 147 orders since 2001. I think Amazon Prime was a masterstroke - it makes you less likely to shop around, unless you can get a big discount elsewhere.

Not really that surprising if you consider that they were bought out by Rakuten (a big Japanese company) last year and this is how they operate - they're not a retailer but a marketplace. I think the theory is that they'll concentrate on building long-term relationships with sellers rather than competing with them (which is harder anyway now the Jersey-VAT-tax-loophole is shut down). Compared to the free-for-all that Ebay and Amazon marketplace can be, there should be fewer fake items and wildly fluctuating prices.

on the last email I got from them, the Rakuten logo was bigger than play.com branding. Play is dead. RIP.

    Oh, I like this game!

    05 Dec 2002
    Project Zero (PlayStation2)
    Item price: 17.99

120 orders since then, last one in November 2011. I hadn't realised it'd been so long, tbh.

My first order was 24 August 2001. I ordered the following:

Enemy At The Gates (2001) (Region 1 DVD)
The Wicker Man - Limited Edition (2 Discs) (Region 1 DVD)
Die Hard: The Ultimate Collection Trilogy Box Set (6 Discs) (5.1/DTS) (Region 1 DVD)

Made only one order in 2012 - for a DVD I couldn't find on Amazon. And only two orders in 2011.

    18 Aug 2005 Order no:--
    Item price: 14.99
Boiling Point: Road To Hell (PC Games)
    Sold by: Play.com
    Dispatched: 18 Aug 2005

Bought it after it was discussed here and sounded funny with it's floating panthers and all. I think I played it for 30-50 minutes in the end.
