Either that or move to XNA Creators Club, which has a different royalty structure.

XNA really seems to be targeted at hobbyists. I don't think anyone truly believes that an XNA title could make its owner a living in sales, but we'll have to see what happens with it - they're still looking into all that for XNA IIRC. In addition, XNA stuff can't use achievements or leaderboards, which is a very attractive part of XBLA development. Aside from that, the XNA channel seems absolutely fantastic.

Quake 4 is also a bloody awful port on the 360. Don't bother.

    Go on then, spill!

Got it second hand for Q2. Played through it once. It's not great but not the worst game I have ever played either.

Oh, Q4 isn't bad in itself. It was just lazily done on the 360 and it shows, it was a slideshow at points when I was playing it in HD. And then the disk refused to work, which sealed its fate somewhat.

    ANYWAY

    XBLA, eh? ^__^

    Yep, XBLA :)

I have to say that personally, this generation, it's been more the small downloadable games that have defined it for me, as opposed to HD graphics or big epic titles.

That goes across all the platforms btw.

I spend more time playing on XBLA and PSN than anything else. I haven't bought anything downloadable on the Wii yet, but that's because I'm not into retro titles. I'm sure there will be a lot of Wiiware stuff I go for.

A lot of the smaller games thrive as downloadables but would die a slow death on retail disk.

    /Hearts the resurgence in shmups

BTW - the new update for Switchball has completely done away with the Vsync tearing! \o/

Quality game too (switchball). I'm pleased they updated it because there was no way I'd have bought it with all that tearing.

I bought it but the tearing really did detract from it.

    /Might complete it now

XBLA, not XBL. godddddddddddd you'd think for a man of 94 you'd have a few brain cells to knock around.

Possibly because you can't spell finish. Possibly other reasons.

Spartan is hilarious and he gets banned every time he shows up, yet the place is filled with people like Aresnal1914.

When are they gonna start putting some more old Amiga games on xbla?

Speedball2 and SWOS are 2 of the finest things on it and the Amiga back catalogue is a vast treasure trove or commercially viable re-hashes (Which I will buy, play once, realise they are not as good as I remember and never play again).

Some Syndicate, Alien Breed, Cannon Fodder and Frontier for starters.

    Is it an addicting game?

I disliked what they did to Speedball 2 though, if they'd slapped up the original Amiga version with online and charged 400 points I would've jumped at it. Re-done audio and a shite 3D version for 800 points is... not so good.

Haven't looked at what is about on XBLA for a while. Probably get a new game tonight. What is worth a buy?

Depends what you're into, obviously! :)

    I'd suggest giving these demos a go;

    Assault Heroes
    Doom
    Exit
    Marble Blast Ultra
    Prince of Persia Classic
    Rez HD
    Space Giraffe
    Switchball
    Triggerheart Exelica

    Your mileage may vary etc.

Also worth browsing the games available by genre if you know you have favourites!

Prince of Persia broke my heart with it's fucking horrible combat system. I know it divided gamers here because some people had no problem with it but I found it incredibly trial and error and that's just not good enough when the penalty is to send you quite a long way back.
