He did say that he thought they should end it. I enjoyed Roger's story, but chuckled at how 60's everybody is! Stan's beard :D

Roger is hands down the best character. The 60s vibe us a bit unsettling.

Bit disconcerting to think that it's now up to just 12 years before I was born!

Found the first episode of the new season really odd. Almost as if I'd missed a season. How much time has passed between the end of the last season and the current one in their world?

Enough time for them to all grow lamb chops and build a staircase.

    I reckon it's a year.

Pete Campbell still trying his best to be Don Draper and failing horribly. The Jaguar meeting was hilarious. Really can't see where Peggy's going at the moment.
  • Deleted user 16 April 2013 10:54:35
    Peggy is Don.

Peggy has been great in this series so far, though that Ketchup thing is going to backfire horribly.

Trudie was also great this week.

I've got no idea what you're talking about. US pace?

Yeah, Alison Brie had the best scene this week.
  • Deleted user 16 April 2013 12:50:25
Can we not talk about US pace please, or at least spoiler it.

If there's just one thread it just makes sense to have it 'up-to-date'. If we start going down the US vs UK vs UK premium service vs the rest of Europe etc, that just doesn't make any sense.
  • Deleted user 16 April 2013 13:58:25
I don't see why thieving pirates should dictate the pace of these things.

Lol kalel. I even have sky atlantic, I just resent the fact I have to put up with fucking adverts when I still have a to pay a premium, so the shows I really love (currently Mad Men & GoT) I prefer to download and watch in glorious uninterrupted form.

There's no need to be upset by it.

In fairness it has adverts in the US as well so they aren't quite as obtrusive as in GoT, I'm just impatient.
  • Deleted user 16 April 2013 14:05:31
Seriously, it doesn't seem right to me that pirates get to set the pace of these discussions. I think it's impatient and inconsiderate, but hey, this can just be another thread I can't post in like the GoT one.

Agree with regards to spoilers (although there haven't been any big untagged ones as I recall anyway), but I don't wish to be labelled a dirty pirate or any such name. I refuse to give money to sky and will never have their tv service. They've decided to lock away Mad Men to their exclusive channel. I will buy season 6 on blu ray like I have with all previous seasons, but for now I will watch online so that I can have the conversation with you all (even if means waiting 3 or 4 days for the uk air date; last week I didn't get round to watching until the weekend anyway)

What's 'right' then? That only people that can afford sky/premium TV dictate the pace of it? And as I say, that timing of that will vary across UK/Europe anyway, in what is a European forum.

I don't disagree with your point, it's just that 'something' has to set the pace, and we'd all have opinions on what that trigger should be. To me it just seems logical that it's original screening would do it. In the case of GoT, it just means that you arrive to the thread a day later than everyone else, it's not a massive hardship.
  • Deleted user 16 April 2013 14:15:57
Book wankers were the real reason I stopped posting in the GoT to be honest. They're worse than the pirates :-)

I would say UK airing is the obvious common ground as this is the UK and pirating is illegal. Seems fair to me. I did politely suggest using spoilers for US pace as well, which seems a reasonable compromise...

    @imamazed

You're pirating because you don't want to wait for the home release, a common reason for stealing copyrighted content. There's no moral high ground there.

I disagree that UK airing is an obvious choice, it's discriminating against the people who can't afford it. More households are without it than with, so it's not even democratic. I guess it's my socialist ideals leaning me that way. I have sky til around July, because I got it half price for 12 months, I'll be cancelling thereafter as I can't afford close to 100pcm (unless they offer to extend the deal).

As I said, even though I pay - I fucking resent the fact that a 50 minute episode of something I'm paying to watch, takes 75 minutes of screen time, it's a joke.

Spoilering does seem fair compromise anyhow, I will do that in future.
  • Deleted user 16 April 2013 14:29:43
Piracy is not socialism. If you object to the price of something, go without. Mad Men is not bread and water, you have no right to it.

I object to the format primarily, not the price. I pay to go to the cinema, they don't put adverts right in the middle of an airing. You could also argue I have no right to bread and water if you wished.

If you put so much energy into trying to teach the evil pirates how to be righteous, you're wasting your time. These people are clearly comfortable with what they're doing, your judgement is water off a ducks back.
  • Deleted user 16 April 2013 14:55:32
I'm not trying to discourage piracy, I just don't think it should be actively encouraged (or in fact necessary) in order to post in this thread.

@kalel You can be quite disagreable can't you!

I'm not claiming my own moral high ground, just defending/rejecting the "low" ground. I don't think watching it on the internet then buying the blu rays is an admirable thing to do; rather it's not all that bad.

As an aside, not an "excuse", it's also a cost thing. I've bought all previous seasons for about 10 on blu ray; I'd have to wait about two years(!) for season 6 to reach that.
  • Deleted user 17 April 2013 10:08:59
I started off politely asking people to have some consideration for those not pirating it.

It was when that turned out to be a big deal that I become disagreeable.
  • Deleted user 17 April 2013 10:15:01
Also quite simply, if you don't want to be labelled a dirty pirate, don't be one.

FWIW I pirate stuff too but I don't attempt to justify it. I know it's stealing, I just do it anyway.

@kalel You started off complaining about spoilers and chastising those who are watching ahead of the UK schedule (dirty pirates). I think you did take a pretty snide tone, but apologies if I misread that.

I don't mind at all, and, as I say, I'm not trying to present it as a noble cause or anything, I was just trying to provide some context.
