Agreed, and we're all grateful for the fact!

Last weeks chefs were pretty poor by previous standards. The fact I can remember the names of Ash, Claire and Steve (last series finalists) shows how excellent they all were, consistently banging out exceptional food. The first two weeks had a few good 'uns in there, but I do hope they become stronger and show us some truly great cooking as the semi finals hit.

Who the fuck is this day-release masterchef contestant? The rest of shocking as well!

Fucking polar opposites of the guys earlier this week.

I like that they call Greg "The Diner"

I'M THE DINER AND I'M GONNA EAT YER DINNERS AND GOBBLE YER DESSERTS

Tough classic challenges there today, that Oeuf Careme looked like a nightmare compared to some others they've set.

Sea urchin looks vile. I would try it but I'd be shocked if I liked it. Hell of a difficult challenge that one.

I don't know, rub it through a sieve and you could pretend its delicious cat vomit.

Haven't seen this episode, but I think I had some on honeymoon on some Greek island (we hopped about, can't remember the name!). On this one island, all the tavernas round the harbour seemed to compete to outdo each other on what tapas type thing you got with your pre-dinner ouzo for a euro (one place had me filled up with charcoal grilled octopus after just 2 ouzos, it dried out hanging above you). I saw one of them serve sea urchins to the locals but not to us (they thought we wouldn't want it). I asked for some..it was like salty snot...

Like many seafood delicacies, I don't see the attraction.

Aye, the only one I've been impressed with thus far is Alan (?) the guy who works at a stately home for the lord of the manor. Mind you, I'd expect to have a decent chef given that position.

The sea urchin challenge was just daft. Really unfair I thought, it was just Monica showing off. Compared to the pancake challenge the episode before it was off the scale in difficulty for the poor sods.

    Sea Urchins.
I can only assume the first person to try that as a foodstuff was starving to death, or was clinically insane. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite so unappetizing - even when ponced around with salad and shit it looked like something a late stage radiation victim would find in the toilet.

Not watched it yet but popping candy is a fad that deserves to die by fire, surely?

Good on the girl and the lad (I'm bad with names). The other two would have done better if they'd served a Gregg's steak bake for the main and a Twix for the desert.

Awww, sad I read that now. Not Alan of the posh house that was the only one I liked this far :(

    Boo and hiss.

    Roll on iPlayer.

You never see Jay Rayner in the same room as Zlatan Ibrahimovic do you.

I find the episodes where the contestants cook in famous restaurants really dull. The one tonight especially so.

    Well done Kerry and Anton!

I think if they had to pick one, Anton should have shaded it, but I'm happy for them both, and glad of the fact that there's never any real controversy over voting and who wins each round. Not like x-factor (I don't watch it but for the last 3-4 months my Facebook feed would be flooded on a Sunday eve with people crying about it, even though they continue to support it by watching, plebs).

I would have gone for Anton, food wise they looked about on par but Kerry had a couple of meltdowns which I would have counted against her like when the Fat Duck had to stand her down and get someone to finish off the plating.

Yeah I had Anton all the way. I think the sheer work he put into creating something unique and displaying such varied skills has to put him above the wifey with the pop out eyes.

I do love Masterchef. It's amazing to think that these guys were cooking in pubs but had the skills to blow away people at the very top of their profession. It's an interesting comparison to X-Factor as well I think. With masterchef you can see the work and effort put into what they do, as opposed to just being good looking and naturally able to sing.
