How the hell do you do that fluttering thing with Yoshi?

Interesting. Don't think I'll bother using it though - why would I want to skip through some of the best parts of each level??

I never used it either for that very reason. Now that I've got all 242, quite tempted to start over again with a new save just because it's so bloody lovely to play.

I could really play through another 120 stars of Mario Galaxy levels, they're such awesome games.

So now that people have had time to fully digest Galaxy 2. What do people consider to be the superior out of the two? Does Galaxy 2 suffer by not reinventing the wheel?

2 is better. It is a hyperactive version of the first.

I agree - 2 is definitely better. Loads more ideas chucked in there and throws up surprises all the way through. Music in the first game is better though.

They are both wonderful. Quite where Nintendo go from here is going to be interesting. Guess we'll find out in about 4 years.

I think the first game is better. SMG2 went mental with new ideas, but I found it less memorable overrall, and the soundtrack is several leagues below SMG's.

Still a fantastic game, but not quite on the same level as SMG if you ask me.

Gotta agree... The soundtrack alone in 1 beats 2 overall imho...

Starting this tomorrow \0/. So what's the deal, is there 242 unique stars?

That's the next two weeks sorted.

I haven't played SMG2 yet, but I thought the orchestral score on 1 was a bit... turgid.

Everything about the first one was better than the second other than the remade level.

Beat Bowser last night and I still reckon the second is better. Not by much, but I definitely enjoyed it more.

Yeah, come on JK, didn't you hear - everything about the first one is better than the second one - and that's even with the music in 1 being utterly turgid.

    Stop pretending you're having fun.

I couldn't get into SMG. I hang my head in shame.

Finally got around to starting this three days ago. Loving it as much as the original. I think I agree on the music, although hearing THAT usual theme from SMW again when on Yoshi is class; even my brother poked his head into the room when it was playing because he recognised it heh...

That's the next two weeks sorted.
Three days down, 100 stars got here. We'll see how long it lasts for me, but already a couple of the comet stars bug the hell out of me... bloody drilling one...

Lie with passion and be forever damned...

You ain't seen nothing yet Mayhem. Some comet ones are Wiimote breaking difficult.

Put a dayís work in and have 70 stars to show for it. Nothing has tested me yet, but itís still early days. I absolutely love it so far and would say itís the originals equal in every respect (apart from the music - which is still great). Itís endless in its desire to show you something new and the creativity hasn't dipped once. Mightily impressive.

You're speaking to someone who managed all 242 stars in the original SMG. And yet I will agree that a couple I've tried so far seem harder than even the bloody Luigi purple coins disappearing platform flipping thing from the first game. So we'll see how far I get on this one... I hope for 120 and progress from there :p
