Just been reading the skinny on this. Set to start up soon, and it's..

    1) Set in the 80s (yay!)
    2) Got Gene Hunt in it (yay!)
    3) Got Keeley Hawes in it (Boo!)
    4) Missing the Cortina, it's been swapped for an Audi Quattro (yay!)

Anyone else think this is going to be good?

Let's hope it feckin' well ends better than Life on Mars did though, eh?

I hope this Spoiler fad wears off soon. What's the point of putting something in the spoiler tag if there's absolutely no clue what it's regarding?

There are easier ways of coming out than that!

I'm not convinced that fans of Life on Mars are automatically going to like this, being that the main character is a fiction of the imagination of someone who isn't even in this show and therefore, ultimately, can't really suffer, or have any particularly interesting story arc, although I suppose I'll forget that pretty quickly if it turns out to be awesome.

I'm expecting fairly entertaining 80s cop-show related hi-jinks and pokes at the 80s in general, nonetheless, and expect it should be pretty good fun.

The more I read about this, the more I like the sound of it.

Sounds freaky, kept a very similar premise to Life on Mars but with a different main character - with at least the core elements of the show not dicked about with too much.

And the return of the Gene Genie can only be a good thing. I even approve of his choice of car this time round too (though that colour - EESH!)

Did the Quattro come in any other colours apart from black and red? I can't remember seeing any other than in those two.

Bit weird really, you have that great thing throughout Life on Mars of is he mental, is it a dream, is it real, is he in a coma etc etc but then doing a sequel series seems odd as you know that none of it is really real.

    Or is it?

Also, Peej is an idiot. Keeley Hawes is a posh fox.

    She's a bonebag.

Much preferred Annie from the original series. Bit of meat on her. I saw her in something the other day in contemporary gear and I nearly didn't recognise her because she's obviously gone on the size zero diet too. Wail.

Hmm. She's on that ad at the moment too...

    /arrives

Peej, you're on your own I'm afraid!

There's a bright red quattro owned by someone on this here industrial estate. Sounds like a right load of rusty spanners though, it's certainly seen better days! First 4WD mass production car though, bit of triv for you there.

    edit. Peej and Harry then

Yup there's one just round the corner from me and it too sounds like someone's tipped coal dust into the oil tank.

Still reckon it looks quite shecksy though for an 80s chunk of metal.

Slightly preferred the later shorter wheelbase rally quattros though.

Just seen the trailer for this and it looks awesome, really looking forward to it now. Loved LOM and Gene Hunt as a lead makes it a must buy for me when its released on DVD, nothing wrong with Keeley Hawes in my book - in fact she looks damn fine for the first episode.

I actually had it in my head that the last scene would be Sam finding Gene in the present day, lying in a hospital bed, raddled with cancer...

Didn't work out that way though. Bah.

I'm sorry, she's attractive but about as sexy as a leper with eczema.

should have ended with him jumping off that building. That should have been the end.

having him go back doesnt work cause you know its all in his head but crucially so does he, so the dynamic of what is possible totally changes.

LOM entierly passed me by. Give me another series that I might have seen that it's likely to be similar to? Or just watch it anyway I guess...

Dunno - it's very reminiscent of 70s (duh) stuff like Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) before they ruined it remaking it...

It's worth watching though. Some great characters and situations. Just thought the end sucked.

Some dodgy previews coming out: Gene Hunt lacking his way with words, forced incorporation of new Bowie references...

Let's hope it doesn't sour memories of the excellent Mars.
