Alpha Protocol maybe? Reviews are so-so, but forumites seem to love it. Not played it myself yet.

(RDR isn't on the PC, btw.)

Not on PC unfortunately. I'd imagine it will be but not in time for Gobans dads birthday.

What do forumites like about it?

Pretty much everything apart from the ropey technical side/poor graphics, as far as I can tell. Only skim-read the thread until my interest was piqued enough to order it. :)

AP is slightly rough and in need of a polish and some people hate it because it's not a shooter but rather is a bit slower paced than that. It's 3rd person, quite tactical, lots of dialogue options and skills to upgrade spy game. Think Splinter Cell/Deus Ex/Mass Effect/Bourne/Mission Impossible rather than Gears of War :)

    This signature intentionally left blank.

Sound like the sort of thing he might find interesting, his reactions aren't what they used to be :)

And if the GTA4 conversion was anything to go by, the PC conversion may well be initially incredibly painful

He's not really a GTA fan so, other than setting, he may not be that interested.

Depends what he dislikes about GTA, it's a far better game in a lot of ways.

Moot point though, since it's not on PC yet :)

2033 requires a monster PC, so beware, some that'll run Crysis to some degree should do.

I thought Metro actually ran pretty well on most mid - high spec machines, it's only DX11 mode thats stupidly resource intensive?

    Perhaps I'm wrong on that.

Get him X3:Terran Conflict and you'll never need to get him another game.

A modern Elite is probably the closest comparison, it's huge.

If you turn up everything to full, then it will require a beast of a machine, it does scale well though.

X3 is very good, but has a mountainous learning curve, requires much time and dedication, and really needs the additional community mods to reveal the diamond that lies beneath the rough. However, once you invest a few days (or more!) getting to grips with it and adding in the better mods it is very very deep indeed, plus you can add in loads of Star Trek and Star Wars ship models.

Other ideas - I'm quite enjoying King Arthur The Roleplaying Wargame at the moment, Alpha Protocol is one for the 'once it gets cheaper' pile (I'd like it on PS3, but you can get it for £18 on PC), and Napoleon Total War is improving with thanks to the modding community (at last).

I love it - huge space ships fighting it out, trading if you want to, owning space stations and your own fleet. I've put hundreds of hours in and I've still not completed all the plotlines.

The downside is that it's pretty slow at the start, requires a large investment of time to really get the most out of it, and will never be the most polished of games. Although all the patches help. Still looks stunning though and will tax the most powerful of PC's.

My dad shows interest in Anno 1404, Flight Simulator X and Metro 2033. Oh, and he likes the look of Crysis :D.

    Raiden III

    /snigger

I think that game is probably the furthest I could get away from his taste. His twitch gaming days are long gone.

He likes Crysis, not sure whether it's because he likes to show off his PC or he actually enjoys it though.
