CNN link here, doesn't add much to what you said though.

3 dead apparently, including the gunman.

    BBC has the details.

It comes to something when you think, three dead isn't so bad...

    This space left intentionally blank.

I hope the recent frequency is an anomaly, rather than a trend. Like Bird and Moat in the UK. Very close together temporally, but not anything to do with each other.

I'd still rather it didn't happen at all.

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.

I think there might be some action next year. Fuck all will happen till after the election. And of course it all depends on who wins that, primarily the House and Senate races.

Policeman was giving him an eviction notice. No reason giving yet for the eviction. Early guess the bloke just snapped. We shall see

Should just tighten up the gun laws. Our laws are strict enough, can get single shot assault rifle in the UK(seen M4 +silencer for 800) if you are willing to do all the paperwork and waiting through all the security checks. Not like the US way and buying them As easily as a big mac.

Then again it's a culture thing as well, you can buy firearms in UK(1.8 million legal firearm owners in UK) but we just have a different mindset concerning guns

    Urgh.

Brevik found sane and sentenced to 21 years, plus another 10.

Sick fuck was smirking as he heard the sentence.

What did you want him to get?

Re earlier post about America, they won't change gun laws. It is part of the constitution, part of life there. I'm from there and it is in the DNA. Well over fifty percent ie the majority would never vote to give up their firearms.

Such a short sentance, he killed 77 people. He should be doing 12 years for each not 20 weeks.

Sick fuck would smirk at anything. He considers the whole system beneath his lofty, fascist world.

Considering the scale of what he did and his total lack of remorse, nothing less than full life imprisonment without possibility of parole.

I hope someone pisses in his food every single day of the 31 years.
  • Deleted user 24 August 2012 09:24:03
It's a hopelessly lenient sentence but I can't imagine him ever being released in all honesty. I sure hope not anyway.

You really think they'll ever release him?

I don't think there should even be the possibility, frankly (and this is coming from someone who has generally liberal views on criminal justice).

The short sentence isn't the only outrage here. Breivik wanted to be judged sane because that, in his warped mind, would justify his actions, which is exactly what he got. I doubt the prison term will have any effect on him if he believes he was right to do what he did.

The sanity thing was always going to be a lose-lose situation though; neither the prosecution or the defense wanted it.

To those complaining about the brevity of his sentence:

"Breivik is almost certain to end his life in prison. Although Norway has a maximum prison sentence of 21-years, Breivik could be sentenced to "preventive detention", which can be extended for as long as an inmate is considered dangerous to society."
    (From the Grauniad)

It'll be like Mark Chapman. Every few years there'll be a newspaper article about his parole application and then a few days later an article about his parole being denied. Funnily enough, that happened yesterday.

Same old story: 'parole' is mentioned, or a number is given, and everyone assumes parole is granted automatically, or that the number is just a fixed, unchangeable sentence and will always be dispensed with upon reaching that time - why the hell would they EVER release Breivik?

As others have said, he got the maximum sentence of 21 years, but won't ever be released.

And even though being declared sane is what he wanted (a rarity in these cases, afaik), it was the right decision. Because he was, and is, sane.
