It has the classic square board that's been used for Chess, draughts and Go, and they've been around for centuries. Bomberman needed a very basic computer to get it going, so it couldn't have been invented until ver recently.
Just like Scrabble wasn't invented until mass production became standard practice, but is still played today. Bomberman is here to stay as a timeless game. Same for Tetris.
