Wii Zapper in Europe this year News

Wii News by Robert Purchese

21 September, 2007

Nintendo has confirmed to Eurogamer that Link's Crossbow Training and the Wii Zapper will be released here before the end of the year.

The peripheral was unveiled earlier this year at E3, where we saw Nunchuck and Wiimote disappear into a plastic machine gun-style housing.

It will be available to buy separately, or with Link's Crossbow Training - a shooting-gallery title based around the hero of the Zelda series.

Here, Target Shooting and Defender modes will get you used to firing at things - the latter even lets you shoot off screen to turn around - while Ranger mode will add-in player movement through the Nunchuck control stick.

Nintendo has previously said Medal of Honour: Heroes 2, Ghost Squad and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles will all be compatible with the Zapper in the future.

The Wii Zapper will go on sale accross North America on 19th November for USD 19.95. A European price is yet to be confirmed.

Will it have a multiplayer mode? (The crossbow thing, not the zapper)...

Might get one for RE: UC...

About the compatible thing, I thought it was just a plastic casing for the remote and nunchuck to sit in so theoretically all games are "compatible" just not playable.

If Umbrella Chronicles is good, I'll most probably be getting this as well.

That said, I really could do without yet another peripheral to store away somewhere when I'm not using it...

Anyone know something about a RE: UC bundle with this? I heard there was one, at least in Japan.

Well the Zapper better be out in Europe this year because of the Wii games that use it are out in 07 as well. Would be stupid to release it in 08, but this is NOE we're talking about!

Compatible

I think that when they say compatible it means that the will be no need for independent motions of the nunchuck and the Wii remote. Since they are both held in that hideous plastic casing ou couldn't tilt the Nunchuck up and the Wii remote down as an example.

I'm still baffled how this is supposed to work, I mean point the Wiimote directly at the screen like you were aiming some sort of lightgun and the pointer doesn't line up with the barrel (end) of the Wiimote...

Yeah because aim calibration in most other lightguns is just to keep you busy while the game is loading, amirite?

The pointer provides 1:1 movement, so it can be lined up with any peripheral's aiming sights. Whether developers will actually implement it or just expect you to rely on the on-screen cursor is another matter.

Resident Evil: Crystal Chronicles? That would be a rather boring game I imagine. Just casting "Life" over and over again.. :)

Bought one of the clones last week, looks about the same. It's only £7.50 from HK.
