Well not really suprising considering the price. Maybe this will help Activision re-think their pricing strategy.
  • jolboy #2 2 years ago

I think Activision said at some point that 'DJ Hero will be a slow burner'. Just how slow do they mean?
  • KDR_11k #3 2 years ago

I think it's just because noone wants to be a DJ.

Borderlands only entered at number 9?

It deserves to do much better IMO as it's a cracking game. It's refreshingly different, a first-person shooter married to the game structure of an MMORPG, including quickly respawning enemies and tons of loot scattered around. It's shockingly addictive in much the same way World of Warcraft was as the collecting/exploring urge quickly consumed me and hasn't yet let go even though I'm at level 20. It's ultimately a bit shallow but it doesn't matter when it's so much fun to play.
  • Mortey #5 2 years ago

"Borderlands is handing on at 9" Lucky you didn't put off instead of on aswell then!
  • beastmaster #6 2 years ago

I'm in no way surprised about DJ hero. I've got a feeling the new Tony Hawks is going the same way. They are
    just too damn expensive.
  • PlugMonkey #7 2 years ago

Borderlands only entered at number 9?

No, it entered last week at 7. 9 isn't bad going, considering it's been sold out on Xbox virtually everywhere.

It took me a week to finally get a hold of one, at Argos, where it was the last one they had.
  • miiiguel #8 2 years ago

I don't understand..., this is ridicule. 360's Borderlands also sold out in Lisbon. F***; s**t; Monday!
  • youhavenomail #9 2 years ago

After the HMV price cut Beatles Rock Band screams all the way up to... 34, nine places below GH5. It's over, Ringo, you'll never be as big as cack like Kings of Leon and The Killers in this millennium.
  • Brianstorm #10 2 years ago

Have been pleasantly surprised at how much better FM is this year.
  • onezeonx #11 2 years ago

£60 and id buy DJ hero....anymore is a joke

turntable is good but not something ive always wanted!
  • Mkwone #12 2 years ago

It's £100 odd quid for 1 game, GH took a few games to become a big seller and look at that market now.
  • Monkey_Puncher #13 2 years ago

We really are rather predictable in this country, people do love their football manager. Glad to see DJ Hero doing rather badly, I'm sure it's a fun little game, but it's far too expensive. Fingers crossed this and Tony Hawk ride are going to sell awfully and Activision might get the idea that people don't want any more over priced plastic crap.
  • El-Dev #14 2 years ago

Activision are surely gearing up for GH: Limp Bizkit and GH: Linkin Park now they have the dj equipment available.
  • almighty-slayer #15 2 years ago

Eyepet did surprisingly well to stay at 18.
  • optimusprym8 #16 2 years ago

Well I shopped around online and picked up DJ Hero for far less than the £160 asking price and have to say am thoroughly enjoying it. Yes it's expensive but I paid more than that for Steel Battalion which I can't even play anymore.

    Borderlands needs more love though
  • MeBrains #17 2 years ago

oh donnie, look, LBP's back too!
  • groovychainsaw #18 2 years ago

I'm poleased to see bordelands holding up fairly well - 4 big hitters enter the chart and it only drops 2 places - not bad... I'm worried about their selling out everywhere though, I htink it could scupper their chances, with modern warfare 2 weeks away selling to a similar crowd it needed a bit more momentum at launch. Here's hoping they've done well enough for some good DLC and expansions/sequels ,cos its the only game I've been playing since it came out...
  • jjolley #19 2 years ago

    At Lord:
I'm not sure your remarks are fair. I don't many DJ's myself, but I do understand that what they do is a craft. Okay, we have lots of software these days to assist, but these guys doing it in clubs live is something to be marveled at. What they manage to do with beat management is really quite clever, even though I can play well enough i'm not sure I could do they're job.
  • jjolley #20 2 years ago

    At almighty-slayer:

The Eyepet experience is rather interesting and i'm actually glad that it's still up there. My partner loves it, and indeed after our DJ hero discussions on the other review thread, the Eyepet sound is rather unique in that it's possible to hear it all and understand what's going on. Even the music is dynamic in places, the showering scinario is clever in that regard because the music changes themes as the pet is getting more clean. Also, the use of emotions within the pet really did come out with the soundd, each squeek represents something that is obvious from joy to sadness to indifference. Personally, if I wasn't blind i'd enjoy the experience of messing with it, but I can safely say that it's one of the very few games i'm able to play with my partner and enjoy it with her.
  • Goodfella #21 2 years ago

The utterly superb game of the year (for me) Uncharted 2 down to 12?!

    Oh how depressing.

  • mclovin69 #22 2 years ago

"you can buy a dual CD deck or a couple of direct drive turntables, plug it into your fucking stereo and off you go. "

Tbf you havent a notion what your on about but carry on lol
  • miiiguel #23 2 years ago

For not that much more money you can buy a dual CD deck or a couple of direct drive turntables, plug it into your fucking stereo and off you go.

A couple of direct drive turntables cost at least 800 Euro each, needles not included. If you want to do it properlly, if you don't that's not djing, it's something else.
  • PlugMonkey #24 2 years ago

    @ Lord et al

I think people need to stop equating RB, GH and DJH to playing actual instruments. It's air guitar. Air guitar is more fun with a tennis racket. It's ever more fun with a plastic guitar and a scoring mechanic.

GH will sell more that DJH because more people play air guitar than play air decks. Simple as that.
  • TruWari3r #25 2 years ago

I'm intrigued by dj hero but am not paying that much for a new game with these great games just around the corner
  • RobotRocker #26 2 years ago

Activision: "DJ Hero will be worth the super hyperinflated price we are asking for it and will sell"

    Sure, whatever you say Activision.

    /Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha
  • Les #27 2 years ago

Interesting to see that EyePet is still at #18. Received my copy this weekend, but due to the World Series, I've not been able to try it out yet.
  • Darren #28 2 years ago

@PlugMonkey - My bad. I bought the PC version which was only released last Friday and I forgot that the console versions came out the week before.
  • GamerG #29 2 years ago

Very impressive that Forza only had a 29% drop in sale sover its first week and managed to go above Pro evo even though that is multi platform!!

Well done Turn 10, quality game deserves sales!
  • DaveCook #30 2 years ago

It amazes me how quickly a lot of you are to bash Activision for the way DJ Hero has performed.

If you think logically here, which few of you have I'm sure, a game with a high price point being released this close to xmas is always going to be a slow burner. People are playing it safe with their spending in the run-up to Christmas and taking a gamble on new IP at £80-90 isn't going to be top of their priority list.

Let's face it, this will be a yearly franchise and over time it will become just as big as Guitar Hero. Let's not forget, the first Guitar Hero wasn't exactly a multi-million seller straight away either.

But again, amazes me how quick people are to bash the publisher, instead of championing Freestyle Games for making a game that is much deeper and accomplished that Guitar Hero can ever hope to be.
  • interceptor #31 2 years ago

Perhaps this is a sign that Bobby Kotick should instead focus on customer satisfaction and not pissing off the community, rather than profit
  • Eraysor #32 2 years ago

I'd happily buy DJ Hero for a lower price. It's a shame MW2 will still sell well at its ludicrous RRP. The PC price in particular is insane.
  • almighty-slayer #33 2 years ago

    @jjolley

It sounds good, and it looks good from the adverts i have seen (at the weirdest times of day), and from trailers around the internet. However to be completely honest i didn't expect it to sell very well, no matter how much i wanted it to do.

Good to know it is an enjoyable game not only for the kid, but also for the adults!
  • magicpocket #34 2 years ago

DJH will be fine. It's the first week for heavens sake! It's the exact type of game that once you play you'll understand the fun that can be had and then purchase for yourself. Man, when GH first came out there was no way in hell that I was going to pay that much for a peripheral and a game, let alone stand like a prat in my living room with a plastic guitar... fast forward to 2009 and I am now the proud owner of two plastic guitars, a GH drum kit and a micrphone.

I have DJH and it is a load of fun. I know that a few of my friends have been intrigued by it, but are waiting to try before they make a decision to purchase.

Anyone want to make a bet against me that it will be a huge success for Activision and spawn many sequels?
  • curtlikesmeat #35 2 years ago

Not surprised really about DJ Hero - why is it £90? Rock Band (which was still overpriced IMO when it came out) was not much more than that for a whole load of plastic things.
  • metalangel #36 2 years ago

Roll on DJ Hero 2... barely changed new controller (old one incompatible), more shit tunes, more DLC (not compatible either), higher price tag. Yes, no such thing as bad publicity... Does that still apply when loads of people are saying your game is overpriced shit?
  • Toothball #37 2 years ago

I saw that Renegade version in shops over the weekend and was a little tempted. I'd probably enjoy pretending to be a DJ, but I think I've got enough plastic instruments around the place for now.
  • JahB #38 2 years ago

for making a game that is much deeper and accomplished that Guitar Hero can ever hope to be.

reality check: it's exactly the same game with a slightly altered interface.
  • PlugMonkey #39 2 years ago

barely changed new controller (old one incompatible)

Has that ever happened? A mate of mine even uses his PS2 GH controllers for PS3 Rock Band...
  • Mayhem64 #40 2 years ago

Borderland sold out? Odd, the two shops near me still have tons of copies on the shelves. Pleased to see it sell well though, really enjoying it at the moment...

    Lord Wrote:
"people, go along to maplins and see what cheap DJing crap you can pick up. Dual CD thing is 200 quid, direct drive 'table is £130

cheap shitty mixer and you're done."

Thats exactly what it is , cheap shit. You might see dodgy Daves school under 14's disco roadshow using that crap, but every club that I have DJ'd in has had Technics 1200's (~£300 each) or Pioneer CDJ's (~£600 each) - Plus you need a pro mixer (~£500.)

The crap you buy in Maplins isnt going to let you beat match or scratch effectively. DJ Hero is just a bit of fun.
  • metalangel #42 2 years ago

Wow MrED209, you think you're putting everyone in their place today. Where did I say it was fact? It was more of a humorous guess based on everyone expecting Activision to wring the tits off it in the name of Kotick's wallet, and that includes making you buy as much of it over again as possible.

So as to add something constructive, I'll say what DJ Hero could've been.

A PROPER (if simplified) DJ set. Keep the controller, but let it work like a proper turntable for scratching. Include a bunch of tracks, but also include a collection of samples and melodies and beats too. Remember Music on the PS1? Or the EJay titles on the PC? You dragged and dropped a collection of samples together to make a coherent track. You could have hours of fun making new songs, remixing them. My DJ Hero would let you do that. It would let you use tracks imported onto your console as the basis for some mixing and editing with the included tools. You know how they say that DJ Hero is a great party game? My DJ Hero would be even better, not least of all as with you own music collection AND the ability to make your own tracks, you wouldn't be running out of tunes any time soon.

All that I've said is entirely possible, has been done before, and would be great if they did it again and brought it up to date.
  • Mercatoria #43 2 years ago

    DJ Hero is surprising good.
  • Boomerang #44 2 years ago

Typo at foot of article: "handing on at nine"

    That is all.
  • RobotRocker #45 2 years ago

    @ DaveCook

    1) Activision are arrogant berks who deserved this to backfire

    2) Freestyle games are screwed because of said arrogant berks. There was something ridiculous like £20-30 Million pumped into DJ Hero and it had endorsements from Eminem and Jay-Z. If they shot it out at £60-70. It would be Christmas No.1, easily. Instead, they will probably be demoted to port shovellers for the Wii for Activisions botch up. Which would be a damn shame as they have proven they are a talented studio

    3) DJ Hero cant support that kind of price. The first Guitar Hero was £45-55 depending where you shopped around. Perfect "Techie" price for those curious about it. Even the current £70 for GH5 is laughable (Before anyone starts. I gave Harmonix a ton of shit for their price policies on instruments with RB1 as well)

    4) See top

    @ metalangel

    You don't need DJ Hero.
  • OrgasmicMutton #46 2 years ago

I'd concur with those that said they'd buy the game at a 60 quid price point.

i had a wee go on it at the shops at the weekend and thought it was pretty fun but not something I'd splash 90 quid on.

I'll wait fdor the inevitable price drop before I buy. i mean it has Groove is in the Heart on it which means it's automatically a brilliant game.
  • metalangel #47 2 years ago

@cabbadgecase: You're right, I suppose it was wrong to expect something beyond a flashier version of Simon, or indeed (from the examples I've given) something beyond the capabilities of 15 year old hardware.

Would still be cool if someone made a new game like that, though. Hell, given the turntable can already turn 360 degrees, it's entirely possible for it to detect the sort of movements needed for some simplistic scratching and beat matching.
  • metalangel #48 2 years ago

Or nearly as much media attention. A shame.
  • Moz #49 2 years ago

For rhythm game fans DJ Hero is a must offer a level of complexity that GH just doesn't have.

However can see that for masses that play GH for a bit fun DJH could be a little dounting.

Will be one to watch as more people get a chance to play on a friends DJH and see how much fun it is.
  • HuggyAtHome #50 2 years ago

Wouldn't have bought DJH myself but got it as a gift (cost about 80quid at Asda I think)- it's excellent. Think people should try before they slag it of.
  • sickpuppysoftware #51 2 years ago

Another person here waiting for DJ Hero to hit £60. I fear I'll dislike a lot of the music. I just want to go wikki wikki woo
