Sonic Rush Adventure for DS

SEGA rubber-stamps it.

Crossing the road this morning is that little blue hedgehog on his jolly little way to star in a new DS game, Sonic Rush Adventure.

SEGA confirmed the news yesterday afternoon, having previously skirted around rumours that the title was in development.

It's a follow-up to Sonic Rush, which appeared on the handheld to a warm round of applause back in 2005.

Once again the majority of the action is in 2D, as our athletic hero zips around levels doing all sorts of hair-raising stunts. However, when you reach the end of a stage and face up against a boss, you'll be thrown into 3D mode, which will span both of the DS screens.

The stylus aims to be put to good use again, particularly when you venture out to sea to battle with Captain Whisker and his hardy pirates - using the touch-screen controls to easily navigate the rolling ocean.

But it isn't just swarthy sea-dogs you'll be running rings around, as you'll also encounter robotic dinosaurs, explore ghost ships and race through mysterious forests.

Hopefully SEGA will also address the rather unforgiving one-hit kills of the original game, and essentially push what was probably the best 2D Sonic offering in a long time into the league of not-to-be-missed.

Head over to our Sonic Rush review for more information.

I'm playing Sonic Rush at the moment and it reminds me why I enjoyed Sonic back in the day. And also why I didn't too :/

    Solid as.

Having completed Sonic Rush, I don't remember it having any stylus control, so where does the "stylus aims to be put to good use again" come from?

That aside, I hope Sonic Rush Adventure is at least as good as Sonic Rush was :)

Doesn't Sega said some days ago that they are fed up with the negative press Sonic got since...I don't know, Dreamcast times? And now they are making an other Sonic? Don't get me wrong, SR was a great game and the second episode could be a good one as well, but it's time to stop and reconsider the strategy with the old mascots and IP's, because it's get worser and worser as new sequels appear, and you can't say witch one is the worst.

Don't forget Shadow the Hedgehoge or the newest Xbox360 / PS3 Sonic...

JonFE, you can use the stylus to move sonic on the sonic 2esque bonus stages.
Its good to hear there is still some sonic love left. Please don't let it be shit...

Sonic bonus stages??? Is this why I don't have the 100% on Sonic, like I do on Blaze? Shoot...

Splendid news, another firm DS purchase.

Sonic Rush was ok...still think Sonic Advance 3 was a better game though as far as recentish 2D outings go.

Not too thrilled at the return of 3D boss battles either, I thought they where pretty poor.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! It's Sonic; learning the track is part of the game!

The thing they need to fix are the appauling Boss battles that almost ruined the game.

    YES!

Between this and Secret Rings I can really get working on ridding myself of the memory of the last few games.

Apparently they're doing it in-house this time, having fallen out with Dimps (the developer of the original Rush). I bet it'll be shite.

If each boss fight takes place with Tails in the background yelling "Look out Sonic!" and "Do your best Sonic!" and "You're almost there!" and "Oh no!" and various other irritating phrases in his whiny little 8 year old American voice, I will Not Buy This Game.

Totally agree with the above post. WHY oh WHY are they repeating the nightmare of the '3D' boss battles, which were still stuck to one plane anyway and therefore hardly 3D.
