Sam & Max Ep 3 available

It'sa meatballi ona me facey.

Much like an Italian mobster wobbling a flabby paunch down to the local family deli, you can head over to the Telltale Store and get yourself Sam & Max: Episode 3: The Mole, The Mob, and The Meatball.

It's out today, you see, and tells the story of detective dog and rampant rabbit as they go undercover to investigate a police informant who's gone AWOL. Can they successfully infiltrate the Ted. E. Bear Mafia-Free Playland and pass as part of the Toy Mafia? Or will someone cry "Fugazi!"?

This instalment, like the previous two, will cost you just GBP 4.55, EUR 6.93, or you can purchase the entire set for 18 quid, or 27 Euro-bob.

The next game in the series will be "Abe Lincoln Must Die", followed by "Reality 2.0", both due out this year.

Head over to our review for this latest crime-caper to see why it's well worth the dosh.

    "both due out this year"

    OI! Valve!
    Are you reading this?

Now this is the way to do episodic gaming - released fast and often! Not chapters given bi-yearly (HL2) or cancelled after the 1st chapter (SiN)...

Now THIS is what I call episodic gaming! Damn good tempo.

Man it's getting tough waiting for the boxed version to appear!

Why wait for a boxed version? If you buy the full season now they'll send you a boxed copy at the end for the cost of postage.

"If you buy the full season now they'll send you a boxed copy at the end for the cost of postage."

    Do they?

Excellent! I bought the whole season straight off the bat. £18 is nothing for this much fun...

I have an order in for the boxed one, but would rather play them all back to back in one big sleepless session.

    They're mine, Not'cho's.

The rate with which they're getting these out is praiseworthy, sure, but judging by reviews I've been scanning the episodes appear to be getting shorter and with easier puzzles everytime a new one is released.

That's the impression I got from playing them. Episode 3 took me about 90 minutes to complete and only had about 6 puzzles to solve, of which only one was anywhere near tricky.

It's great to have Sam and Max back, but the recycling of characters and locations combined with the simplicity of the puzzles is kind of disappointing.

And also there's a common routine going now which makes it easier. You _know_ there will be 1 puzzle to solve with Sybil, and 1 with Bosco - the recycling of locations and characters I don't mind so much but the lack of puzzles is poor. Feels more like an interactive comic than a game. Hey, it's a hilarious interactive comic but was still hoping for something a little more. You get the feeling that all the games in this series were made at the same time so not much could change between each episode based on user feedback (like the lack of puzzles). But if this has done well hopefully series 2 will rectify this.
