Remedy: Alan Wake is finally "done"

Only polish to add. How novel.

Finnish developer Remedy has revealed that the long-awaited Alan Wake is now finished.

"It's all done, we're just polishing at this point," boss Matias Myllyrinne told Joystiq at GDC Europe, which precedes the gamescom consumer event over in Cologne, Germany this week.

Remedy will have Alan Wake in tow at that German show, but only be regurgitating the presentation shown at E3 in July to the best of our knowledge. That's the same one we posted exclusively on EGTV yesterday, you know.

We also popped Alan Wake on our analysis couch at E3. And then wrote about it.

Alan Wake is due out exclusively on Xbox 360 in spring 2010. A PC version will follow, and a demo of either is unlikely.

If there's still things to do to the game, then it's not done.
  • Goodfella #2 3 years ago

Indeed, and another 6 months until release, wtf?!

    "A PC version will follow"

I'm not 100% sure but since you state that in your article I do have to ask... The last official statement from them wasn';t it that there is NO current plans for a PC version?

Other than that FINALLY that shit is done.. I just wanna play the damn game! :)

They are focusing on the 360 but they dont deny a PC version.

Personally i dont think there will be a PC version for a looong time if ever.

    Alan Snooze Button

edit: do people not like the joke or do they think I'm bashing the game or something? :(

Great, but it should be a winter release 09 (UK) dark evenings add to the atmosphere of this style of game. Still have fingers crossed it will be a, AAA title.
  • Dizzy #7 3 years ago

There will be a PC version. I would say 6 months after 360 depending on how big a hit it is. If it really sells 2-3 million then the PC version will be delayed.
  • matrim83 #8 3 years ago

How much time do they need to polish it? Spring 2010 is like a year away.
  • pinochet_cz #9 3 years ago

Hope that polishing doesn't mean that only polaks are working on it now...
  • DrDamn #10 3 years ago

Yeah the latest vid looked like it could do with some more time on the engine - it also looked a lot more interesting than the E3 vids. It's a pity more games don't have the extra time for this sort of polish built in to their schedules as something which *has* to happen. Many would elevate themselves well above mediocrity with a bit more time.
  • mkreku #11 3 years ago

I think this is like the GTA games. Rockstar always says that there's no PC version planned. Then, almost exactly 6 months later, the PC version comes out.
  • asphaltcowboy #12 3 years ago

This is gonna be awesome! In a way, glad it's not out til next year - I'm having trouble keeping up with releases recently!

I've sooo got my fingers crossed for this one. I love 3rd Person Action Adventures but haven't enjoyed them as much since Shenmue and Eternal Darkness. Even RE 4 started to get a bit 'seen it all before' towards the end.

I don't think theres too much you can do with the basic mechanics of 3PAA games now so it will ultimately come down to how good the story and atmosphere are. Something that Remedy seem to be heavily concentrating on fortunately. :)

Microsoft Game Studios haven't released a PC game/port since Gears of War in late 2007. Connect the dots, folks. They're being way too silent about it and should know better if they want to improve their miserable reputation on PC again.
  • skillian #15 3 years ago

Unless this game has turned terribad behind the scenes and flops on release, I'm 95% sure there will be a PC version. A long wait notwithstanding.
  • davisorle #16 3 years ago

    @muscleblade
thnx for the link and i remember I read this in this site along with others too :)

But yeah I do feel the same way about a PC release neither I'm saying there wont be one :p Just making clear that there is no word for PC version yet. I just really hope its great. Wish it could give me the feeling the first Silent Hill ever did when it first came out. THAT was amazing back then. Good times :)
  • TheJuriel #17 3 years ago

Better they take the time they feel they need to take than rush it in the end. I mean, it's been developed for so many years that a few months hardly matters anymore.
  • solidSnake04 #18 3 years ago

man, even the cover looks disturbing :p
  • StooMonster #19 3 years ago

Wasn't the PC version going to be a demo of the fantastic, up-n-coming ... DirectX 10?
  • davisorle #20 3 years ago

    @StooMonster
DX10 has been out since Vista came out. DX11 comes along with Win7 and no, I don't think they said about it implimenting new features from DX11 if that's what you meant in the first place.
  • mkreku #21 3 years ago

Actually, when Alan Wake was announced a billion years ago, it was a showpiece for quad core CPU's (Intel) as well as DirectX 10 (and, I think, Nvidia). Long time ago though. Seems it's become a console title foremost since then.
  • itsfuzzy #22 3 years ago

    @ The Dudefather

Dont worry mate. Same with the other Alan Wake thread. Anybody who had a negative opinion on the game is getting flamed.
Im really sure there is somebody from Remedy acting as the troll. Call me a conspiracy theorist but its my opinion.

Bring it on bitches. Alan Wake looks like another pile of steaming poo.

I think you missed his point. It was meant to demo the up and coming DX10 - it has been in development that long.

See the text from the petition.

Alan Wake is finally almost done.

If the current build is the same we got to see in the latest video, we are going to have quite a lot to talk about in DigitalFoundry (framerate! torn frames galore! is it HD or is it under-720p? and so on). That game needs some serious performance boost.

I haven't decided yet wether I'm interested in this game or not. A demo should clear all doubts, but I don't see that happening.
  • davisorle #25 3 years ago

    @DrDamn
thnx for clearing it up... My bad, sorry Stoo, i didn't even see the sarcasm there cause i didn't even remember that at all. :p
Since I didn't rate him before I'll +1 his post now for me being a dumbass lol
  • stoopidgreg #26 3 years ago

so it's really not done, because they're still "polishing" it. sigh. i thought they've been polishing it for the last year...
  • Darren #27 3 years ago

Alan Wake looks interesting on the 360 but it's nice to hear that the devs are spending another six months polishing it up because it looked very rough from that E3 footage. I'm more interested in buying this for the PC though because I'm not sure that the 360 can do the concept justice. We'll see.
  • monkeywithnoeyes #28 3 years ago

whatever the case, you're gonna have to wait longer than 6months for the pc version.

6months of polish.. theres should be no excuse for this game to hit with a bad frame rate, screen tearing, and glitches.
  • Iain815 #29 3 years ago

I bet the game is short as fuck though. :(
  • coomber #30 3 years ago

"I bet the game is short as fuck though. :( "

The devs have been strangely quiet and dodged all questions regarding the game's length...

Hopefully this will be a belter though.
