Pro Evo 2009 confirmed for autumn

New controls, moves and online options.

Konami has confirmed a new instalment in the Pro Evolution Soccer series will be released this autumn.

PES 2009 is in development for PS2, PS3, PSP, PC and Xbox 360. It's said to feature "a raft of extensive new additions" that will make it more like actually playing actual football than ever before.

You can expect improved graphics, so players look and move even more like their real-life counterparts. There will be new options so you can tailor the game to suit you, plus new moves, control elements and online elements.

"PES 2009 looks set to reaffirm the series' utter superiority," said ever-modest project leader Jon Murphy.

"We are committed to extending the realism of the new game with a wealth of key gameplay additions, and will produce a football title that truly embodies all the skill and pace that is good about the modern game."

I'll believe it when I see it. 2008 was atrocious, particularly online.

I've been a pro fan since the day's it was ISS on the SNES, but this year i had to get fifa, because Pro 08 was just not fun online.

New PES? There's a shocker! I hope they do indeed move away from the turgid dross they've been serving up for the last few years.

2008 still played as good as ever, but the graphics were soooo bad.

...and don't get me started on the music.

Why bother with music in a footy game anyway? They should make all that space available for better commentary.

This is supposed to be a game from scratch for the first time in a LONG time.... should be interesting...

I just hope they but the air back in the ball for nice hard shots & booming volleys.

if they are making it so that it runs on the PS2, then how good can it really be?

PS3 and 360 will be underused yet again.
  • TheMoonRat #9 4 years ago

It's likely that the PS2 version will just be a re-edited version of an older engine whilst the others are proper next gen (like fifa has been doing with its ps2 offerings), so won't be held back by it.

Lets just hope they don't screw up online play again

This is a joke. Seabass previously admitted he was ashamed of 2008 and he would be totally re-writing the game which would take a couple of years, and here we have an announcement for 2009. Nothing will change.

I hope they use the old code from the old WE/PES old gen - the randomness was amazing, to see a new shoot/volley animation over 6 months into playing it was awesome, PES2008 just made me feel so bad, on the hardest level to score 5-6 goals every match, be able to run up and down the edge of the box and not a single defender tackle or come to the ball was horrendous, I just feel it has been too short a time for them to gain the feedback and improve, they don't really like feedback, hence the online still unplayable.

Who honestly thought Konami would skip releasing this year?

    Really?

    PES series' "utter superiority"

    LOL welcome to 2006 mate
  • Stu #16 4 years ago

2008 was tosh. I'd love to see them build it from scratch and see what happens. Thing is, it's financially risky, and people keep buying the rehashed versions*.

    *Including me.

  • Mr_Brown #18 4 years ago

I will buy it if it has German teams on this time Not German clubs teams, no buy this time around.
  • benstarkie #19 4 years ago

I will only buy it if the bring back the commentary line "he hits a DAAAAISYYYYCUTTTERRR" from PES6

Yep, i'm in agreement, this has got to be the final straw for PES - if 2009 is shocking again...think it's fifa all the way from now on. Having said that, I have given them one more chance...I have just pre-ordered my copy - from Asda, who were cheapest suprisingly...Pro Evo 2009 this site showed me the prices, and saved me a couple of quid...sweet!
