Original Metal Gear Solid for PSN

In Japan this spring. No word on West.

The original Metal Gear Solid game may be heading to PS3 and PSP this spring via the PlayStation Network.

Word comes from the pages of Japanese magazine Famitsu, which also outed a steel-coloured PS3 for the region earlier today.

Konami Europe has offered no comment on the Western whereabouts of the PSN games.

Metal Gear Solid first appeared in Japan on PSone in 1998, and eventually arrived in Europe on February 1999.

Solid Snake was supposedly modelled on the physique of Jean-Claude Van Damme and his facial appearance inspired by Christopher Walken.

It scored an average of 94 out of 100 on Metacritic, and has shipped around six million copies to date.

    @ jonsaan

If you have a PC you are better off buying PSone games from Ebay and converting them to play on PSP yourself. Gives you more choice of lovely PSone goodness!

G-Police on PSP? No need to wait, do it yourself!

Very true, I forgot to mention you need custom firmware.

Ah at least they got that classic up, I just pulled that title out of my head!! The point was though why wait for something that may not even be uploaded when you can legally do it yourself, sometimes for cheaper!

    Ace!

Best PS1 game ever and still one I love playing!

May be wishful thinking, but ideally they'll just grab the original code and upscale it. None of that Twin-Snakes extra rubbish!

    Snake... Snaaaaaakkke!!

    @ Wonga

You just convert both disks, remember you save before you swap disks, so save then move to the Disk 2 file. Not sure about other multi disk games though I've only done MGS.

    @ bad09:

Could you PM me some more info and/or links about getting PSone games running on PSP?

I already have a Japanese PSP used solely for homebrew, and a Deep Red Slim & Lite for more legit gaming.

    Cheers!

Cooolio. I never actually completed the game first time round, bottled it at the last boss.

The big question is will they have enabled analogue control for the PSOne emu by the time this arrives. At the moment the Dpad is mapped to the nub, meaning just 8 sharp directions of travel. I remember that MGS really needed the full analogue for aiming.

Also will be intrigued to see how Mantis attempts to move your CONTROLLER across the floor this time!
