Order GTA IV, get 1000 MS Points

Plus vouchers if you buy from HMV.

HMV is offering free stuff to anyone pre-ordering Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360 from its online store.

Take up the offer and you'll get 1000 Microsoft Points, equivalent to GBP 8.50 / EUR 12, plus a book of vouchers "giving you over GBP 130 worth of savings".

"If there's a better deal out there, we haven't seen it," said HMV executive Duncan La Barre.

True, GAME is only offering 500 Microsoft Points when you pre-order. However, that also applies if you're reserving the Special Edition - while HMV's offer is only good for the vanilla version. Both shops want GBP 39.99 for the vanilla.

Amazon isn't offering any free points at all, but does appear to be selling the game for a lower price than anyone else - GBP 34.99.

Buy the game for GBP 39.99 at Play.com and you'll get a pound off the strategy guide. Good one.

Grand Theft Auto IV is being released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 29th.

Mind you, Game offer 11% cashback on the price ex. VAT on Quidco so you can save yourself £3.75, whereas HMV only give you 5% off your £39.99 which is £2. Depends whether you'd rather have the MS points from HMV, the extra cashback from Game or just plain cheaper from Amazon!

I pre-ordered at Gamestation, they're offering 500 points and "exclusive" gamer pictures.
  • bad09 #3 4 years ago

    HMV it is then!

I'm getting so excited! I was checking out the some of the promotional "adverts" for GTA on you tube last night. The LCPD one is very funny!
  • neilka #4 4 years ago

If you order from HMV don't expect it for release day. Or week.
  • mattigan #5 4 years ago

Great, that will be the points for the COD4 maps covered then.
  • bad09 #6 4 years ago

    @ neilka

Are they poor then? I've never used them before for pre-order. If there's a chance I won't get it release day I'm out!
  • neilka #7 4 years ago

Looking back at old emails, the last two games I ordered from HMV were Vice City Stories and COD3, both of which they sent out *on* release day. I gave up on them after that...
  • bad09 #8 4 years ago

    @ neilka

Cheers dude no way then! In fact that's got me scared, I guess I'm camping outside my local woolies overnight on 28th April :)
  • Psychotext #9 4 years ago

@neilka: I've pre-ordered from HMV a few times and always got the game on release day.

    @bad09

I bought Lost Odyssey from HMV last month with 1000 points in a similar deal. My copy was delivered to me the day after release so I was a little disappointed. In truth, if you want to be 100% sure you will get it on release day, you might want to give HMV a miss.

im steering clear of these guys with special offers as i just have a feeling that it means they will get a lot more orders, so then there is perhaps less chance of getting your game on release day. not that i will anyway, i'm ordering from gameplay to munich, but at least i'll get it a few days after release as opposed to some of these other places like HMV where i'd be lucky to get it a week later.

The more preorders they get, the more stock (including excess) they will receive, not the other way round.

Funny there is no mention of Gamestation's deal as it is identical to Game's.
  • Markusdragon #13 4 years ago

That'd be because Gamestation and Game are the same company these days.

I ordered mine from Game for £34.99 a year ago, with 11% quidco, 500 MS points, £1.75 worth of reward card points earned.

    Cheapest by far.
  • peteb #15 4 years ago

    @coojam

who knows if they will have enough stock for the first batch though, ive preordered stuff before and didn't get it in the "first batch".

Well if I have to wait an extra day or 2 for the game thats fine with me. 1000 points is worth the wait = £8.50

saw this, cancelled my GAME pre order, n used HMV. tis a great deal to be fair
  • Jay-ITFC #19 4 years ago

I got the special edition version coming from Game for £44.99 (£5 voucher) with 4 free gamer pics and 500 free Microsoft points! I pre-ordered about a year ago when game thought the price of the special edition was going to be £50! Plus it will likely come the day before release day. I think I got the best deal of anyone... ;)

BTW to those cancelling orders from Game to order with HMV - don't expect it to turn up until Wednesday or Thursday of the following week...

I've preordered from GAME. Reason being is that I'm taking the day off work to get this on release day and so will be going to my local shops at 9am on the 29th. I don't want to be hanging around waiting for the damned postie :)
  • toythatkills #21 4 years ago

HMV ship from Jersey or somewhere like that, it'll likely be laaaate if you order it there.
  • miiiguel #22 4 years ago

I ordered the obscene expensive edition from Amazon and no points with it... Damn!
  • Negotiator #23 4 years ago

Just cancelled GTA4 preorder with Gameplay and ordered with HMV instead, can't miss out on 1000 free points. That pays for the Legendary Map Pack for Halo 3, thank you EGamer for letting me know, otherwise I never would have found out.
  • GamesConnoisseur #24 4 years ago

If I preordered PS3 GTAIV will I still get 1000 MS points?!

In other words what discount available for PS3?!

/Chortling at couple of my PS3 owners only mates who also wants GTAIV
  • Apostle #25 4 years ago

Hmm, nice offer. I can wait a few days if it doesn't come on release day. It's worth the MS points I guess.

    Thank you EG!

Seems there is a lot of GAME fan boys in here! You could just pre-order GTA in store at HMV and get you 1000 points when you pick the game up. Instore price will be around £39.99 or less, plus you get the points, don't have to stick any more down to pre-order, get 10% off if your a student. Why bother ordering online when most store will open early on release day and your get to pick it up hours before the postie pops it through your door. You'll even get some fresh air before being permentantly stuck to your tv set for the rest of the day.
  • DjanGOH #27 4 years ago

Game prices on HMV.com are usually the same instore unlike GAME.com. Vegas 2 is the same price instore as online + you get 2 extra weapons
  • Kyle #28 4 years ago

Buy the game for GBP 39.99 at Play.com and you'll get a pound off the strategy guide. Good one.

    Roflcopter.
  • richyroo #29 4 years ago

    Dont forget to use Quidco too! £39.99 - 1000 points (£8.50) - 5% Quidco (1.99) = £29.50. Bargain I say!
  • Popzeus #30 4 years ago

Never understood pre-orders. If you want it on release day, just go into a shop. On release day.
  • halftone84 #31 4 years ago

I had Vegas 2 preordered with HMV, for their clan pack offer ... Of course it hasnt arrived today, so not only do I have no game, but neither do 3 rather annoyed friends, who wont get their game till maybe Tuesday or Wednesday ! It didnt help, that hmv's despatched emails lie to you ... my email said it was despatched Tuesday, when i called them today, they said it was despatched Wednesday, and the email that says "its on its way" and its "in the post" was to inform me it was ready to be posted.

I cancelled my game order and preordered with hmv, then this afternoon, cancelled the hmv order, game have always delivered a game to me the day before release.

For the sake of 500 points, i think ill get it from game on release, instead of whenever hmv bother to send it. I wont be ordering with hmv again, think i'll stick to ordering from game/play
  • bitesize #32 4 years ago

well it sounds like a good deal to me - ordered! i'm not that fixated that it MUST come on release day tho, some of us have got to work for a living... saturday morn will do fine.
  • The_Inquisitor #33 4 years ago

HMV are selling the special edition for £59.99 instead of £69.99. That's better than 1000 points.
