Fatal Fury heads to XBLA News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 2 PSP News by Tom Bramwell

25 August, 2006

Fatal Fury Special is set to make its way to Xbox Live Arcade and will form part of SNK Playmore's Tokyo Game Show line-up next month.

It's hardly SNK's only game either, with King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match (PS2) and Fatal Fury Battle Archives 2 (PS2) as well as Metal Slug Complete (PSP).

Gamespot speculates that that's the game we know as Metal Slug Anthology, which makes sense to us too.

There's no word on SNK's Wii support (Metal Slug Anthology again), but if anything does show up we'll let you know, since we'll be reporting from Tokyo again this year.

Sweet, let's hope this is just the start of some SNK classics coming to XBLA.

My thoughts exactly. I couldn't care less about Fatal Fury Special, but Garou online might just convince me to buy a 360.

Sorry, but the box simply doesn't have enough interesting games so far. Maybe in a year or so...

The reason they've chosen Fatal Fury rather than a newer title is because of the 50mb limit on xbox live arcade games, Fatal Furys animations will just about fit in with compression but something newer like Matrimelee or Garou would overshoot that limit and need to be drastically cut.

FFS is allright from what I remember - but the later Real Bout games were a lot better and stand up to todays gameplay demands more easily. Playing the old Fatal Fury games just feels clumsy and sluggish when you compare them to KoF2002 for example.

Real Bout Special was, I think, may favorate untill Garou. Not sure if it would fit into the 50mb limit though.

Fatal Fury Special is a GREAT Neo Geo game; it is an update to Fatal Fury 2, almost like a Fatal Fury 2: Champion Edition in terms of a Street Fighter comparison. This game did take up a lot more than 50MB of information on the Neo Geo, but the compression technologies in use today are a lot better than they were 15 years ago. I CANNOT WAIT to play Fatal Fury Special on Xbox Live Arcade!!!

I am also looking forward to playing Neo Geo games like Baseball Stars Professional, Magician Lord, Cyber Lip, Ninja Combat, The Super Spy, Nam 1975, Last Resort, Ninja Commando, World Heroes, and many others. All of those Neo Geo games could be put on the Xbox Live without any problem. Also, Konami is supposed to be working on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game for Xbox Live Arcade...I CANNOT WAIT for that one!!! And WWF WrestleFest is supposed to be on the way, too!!!

The 50mb limit is more of a guide line, rather than a technical necessity. It has a relation with Core users and the memory 64mb memory cards. But with the 256mb coming allong they'll skip this guide line.
