Koei talks up Xbox 360 debut

Of Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires.

Koei's planning to make its debut on Xbox 360 this summer with Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires, the publisher's announced. The game will also be released on PS2.

"Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires on Xbox 360 will be the most visually astounding game in the hugely popular Dynasty Warriors series to date," said Will Curley, UK sales manager, clearly aware that we'd been shipped some high definition 360 screenshots at the same time.

DW5E allows players to issue direct orders to officers or signal general commands to them on the field, as well as gathering them for ambushes. As not much of a DW fan myself, I can't comment on whether that's interesting, and I'm just going to blockquote this next bit, because I don't want to look like any more of a numpty:

"There's even greater authority over Government, Product Development, Diplomacy and Battle Tactics with the game's 25 new policies for a total of 75 in all." With four scenarios to unlock, two-player co-op (you can see it in the screenshots) in Empire and Free modes, lots of items and 200 officers.

"It will also offer Xbox 360 and PS2 gamers a much more strategically involving Dynasty Warriors experience, with tactical cunning and diplomatic manoeuvring just as important as your expertise out on the battlefield," says Curley.

Speaking of which, Koei's currently manoeuvring DW5E to be its fifth of the year following DW5 Xtreme Legends and Atelier Iris for PS2, Samurai Warriors on PSP, and G1 Jockey 4 on PS2.

  • DaMonkey #4 6 years ago

Look at how low res the environment textures are though. Whats that all about? High Def blurriness

Screenshots look ok, not exactly the most visually astounding game...

Perhaps not, but DW5 still shifted a lot of copies, because people like the brainless beating up of fake people.

DW4: Tactics was nice because it gave a sense of control and strategy that you wouldn't have otherwise gotten. It was a step in the right direction... this seems to be the old Koei "More of the same"...

... sad thing is, with the name "Tactics", I'll buy it even though I know I shouldn't...

Any chance of Koei releasing something decent?

Doesn't look like much cop, like most of the rest of the DW games. Very repetitive series imo.

Still, I guess pathetic little wankers like Zenmaster et al are going to fap them selves stupid over crap like this. Or he would if I hadn't gotten him banned that is. I still lol at the memory of it. Awesome :D

Oh, does it bother you when I laugh at the tard Zenmaster for some reason?
  • TheChojin #16 6 years ago

No you are free to laugh at whatever you like, it just seems a little feeble perhaps even a bit sad. Unless you're just a kid, if so just ignore me.
  • tengu #17 6 years ago

lol, just remembered Petay_Pan as well. Owned him good and proper too :D
  • Furbs #18 6 years ago

Hey, I helped "do" Petay. You're not chalking that one up as your kill.
And I'll have Gareth.de so that makes us 1.5 each.

The formula is souring somewhat because we've been doing this repeatedly for four titles (not counting the "Xtreme Legends" enhanced versions crap), DW4: Tactics being one of the few offshoots that could work.

I guess what bugs me about the game, and the screenshots, is that not a lot has really changed from DW4: Tactics, and it's another example of Koei milking this franchise for all it is worth. There is potential in the Tactics offshoot to really engage fans in a cerebrally challenging war sim with some nice, perhaps refined and honed combat thrown in. All we're getting is Dynasty Warriors with a few limited options for choice. That bugs me... Koei have become more known for their half-arsed Dynasty Warriors sequels than anything else...

Is it so hard for Koei to reimagine this game? Add depth? Complexity? More strategy?
