New 3D PGR3 screenshot

Now available for download.

A shiny new 3D screenshot for forthcoming Xbox 360 title Project Gotham Racing 3 is now available for download.

It features a TVR Sagaris parked on the Tochomae loop, and one of the shiniest bonnets you ever did see. You'll need to open it in Internet Explorer to make it work.

All well and good, but the question still remains as to when we'll actually get to see the finished product. Xbox bigwig J Allard recently confirmed that Microsoft is hoping PGR3 will go on sale the same day as the Xbox 360 - but added that "If something's not ready, we'll hold it back." Ulp.

While you're waiting for news of that release date, why not check out last month's Project Gotham Racing 3 preview, if you haven't already.

  • Zomoniac #2 6 years ago

    There's one on xboxyde.com. It's a Shockwave rather than a Quicktime though.

Why not see last month's preview, because obviously despite going to X05 and seeing a newer build, we haven't bothered to write about that one.
  • erictheking #4 6 years ago

Check out last month's preview! Even channel 4's gamestation had a hands on impressions recently, plus Kameo, PD0 and DOA4! Have EG not had chance to actually play any 360 games yet??? We need your thoughts!!!

Interesting Roundtable discussion with gaming press/bloggers on the pod cast at gamingsteve.com about NYC Xbox 360 press event last week.

They give their impressions of most of the 360 games after having played them at the event. They thought that PDZ was shit and PGR3 was a bit meh, but raved about Kameo, Oblivion and especially Condemed.
  • symmetry #9 6 years ago

They're really bigging up those reflections huh?
  • TILT #10 6 years ago

They must have a special renderer to make their 3D images look so sterile. The videos looked much better than this. Anyway, enough already with the Internet Explorer plugs, EG, it opened perfectly well in Firefox.

I love bittorrent, but my company has a no peer to peer policy now. I love not being fired even more than I love bittorrent so I'm in the direct link camp now unfortunately.

I despair of the next gen if all we have to look forward to is things being unrealistically shiny.
  • jienn #13 6 years ago

Oh! another 3D! shot. I remember seeing those in qucktime around in '95

    Download the gameplay video already.

i guess as they bump up the res of their environment maps things will look less blurry and more "shiney".
  • kangarootoo #15 6 years ago

That is just the way when building car games. Its a double edged sword.

The lack of bodywork textures means that you can get loads of cars whizzing about the place for not so much memory as would be required if they were all freshion [sic] cows. The downside is that shiny lighting and realistic reflections are really the only way up if you want to make your car body surfaces look "next gen". Expect things to get shinier with each new console :)

kangaraotoo: Yep, I remember when Need for Speed 3 or 4 came out, they had this new mirror finish thing they liked to show off. Looked none too good, in fact, much worse than the standard matte look.
Anyway, I think PGR3 looks rather nice, including the reflections, but not in this 3D image. In the videos, the cars reflected like I would expect from real cars. That 3D image, on the other hand, looks like a raytrace.

    >"Why not see last month's preview, because obviously despite going to X05 and seeing a newer build, we haven't bothered to write about that one. "

Which leads to me why EG haven't had any previews of games from X05. You wouldn't even think they went there.

    >"Even channel 4's gamestation "

    C4 gamestation? thier's a gamestation now?
  • erictheking #19 6 years ago

@ the body builder - or whatever its called! Not an avid reader of the page just flick it on during the adverts of the Simpsons!!!

"or whatever its called! Not an avid reader of the page just flick it on during the adverts of the Simpsons!!! "

Oh, you mean the teletext crap.
  • erictheking #21 6 years ago

Yup. Thats my point - if a crappy teletext games page can have up to date hands on previews of 360 games, what are EG playing at?

Its not actually a 3D screenshot is it though. Its a movie, the crowd are moving.
  • dynarama #24 6 years ago

Just like to second that gamingsteve podcast that someone mentioned above.

If very detailed discussion of the 360 and 6 or 7 launch games is your thing, then it's well worth a download.

I agree with the comments about EG's coverage of the 360 , there have been lots of semi contreversial little news headlines that have sparked all kinds of turf wars in the forums , but no actual hands on coverage of a single 360 game...kind of weird if you read their parent companies claims about being the biggest european games site bla bla bla ......www.xboxworld.nl has got more hands on impressions and thats run by a bunch of teenagers/20 yo's here in holland.
I actually think EG and Gamespot are the most accurate reviews and previews on the net at the moment but why no hands on previews guys?

I just downloaded and tried the gameplay movie Jienn posted a link to above. Wow - colour me underwhelmed. It kinda looked a bit poor to be honest. Quite possibly the worst track choice ever - night time and a tiny small track, but it just looked - well - like an XBox game.
  • bootsy_NL_30 #27 6 years ago

Xboxyde has a daytime film going through new york that will probably change your mind imediatly about that....but I do agree I was also more than a little underwhelmed by the night time videos
  • Talha #28 6 years ago

Incredible resolution, stunning artwork, amazing car models. It is a pity, then, that the game looks so sterile and lifeless - although it is just my opinion. Looking forward to it anyway, since the car selection is ace.
  • bootsy_NL_30 #29 6 years ago

talha I agree with you completely however I did feel the same about PGR1 and it was only after a month that I really got into it, then I was hooked...I hope the PGR3 doesnt wimp out like number 2 did with the enormous kudos points and dead easy circuits, so far I've seen nothing that comes close to the difficulty of some of the later New york central park levels in PGR1
