New Tingle RPG details

Plus: new Wario game for DS.

Nintendo has confirmed that a new Zelda spin-off is currently in development for the Nintendo DS.

It's titled Mogitate Tingle Bara Iro Rupee Land - which translates to Fresh Tingle's Rose Coloured Rupee Land. Tingle, you may recall, appeared in both Wind Waker and Majora's Mask - but in the new game, you play as him when he was aged just 35, and had yet to take on the Tingle form.

You're guided through the game by a bloke called Rupeeji ('Old Man Rupee'), who tells you to collect a load of rupees and chuck them into a magical spring. Then you'll be transported to Rupee Land and turned into Tingle.

You also get a bit of help from Pingle, a fairy type who communicates with you via a TV in your house. As you explore Rupee land, you'll have to hand over cash to the local inhabitants to keep them happy, and to pass through toll gates. The game is due out later this year.

And there's another title for DS owners to look forward to - Kaitou Wario 7, as it's currently known, which will rather obviously be the next instalment in the Wario series.

It's being developed by Suzak, the studio who brought us F-Zero Climax on the Game Boy Advance and, oh dear, EyeToy title Rhythmic Star. They've got another DS game in the pipeline, too, although the title has yet to be revealed and there's no word on when either game will hit the shops.

    Tingle gets his own game?

    ... and, umm, who's it going to appeal to? For me, Tingle is the single-most annoying and hatable character in the Zelda universe...

    Old news... Was confirmed about a year and a half ago although I thought it had been quietly canned.

    Here's betting this game turns out to be uber-tops!

    Replace Tingle with Iwazaru from Killer7. It's not that much of a stretch.

    i think is stupidly funny. But i liked it as a external character. I dont think i would like to control tingle.

    I wouldn't really have cared if he'd have stayed in Majora's Mask, but why did they have to include him in every single Zelda game since? :(

    Him getting his own game though, I don't really mind. I don't have to buy it.

    i can't really explain it, but... i actually really like tingle. in my mind he's one of the most original game characters ever. i found his whole middle-aged-man-dressing-as-a-fairy persona in majora's mask frankly hilarious.
    i look forward to seeing how his rpg turns out.

    also, i thought whichever wario game it was that launched alongside the japanese GBA was fantastic, so i also massively look forward to a new DS iteration.

    Tingle was annoying/pointless enough in Majora's Mask. His game doesn't sound even remotely interesting, either. Just seems like a bad idea all-round.

    Tingle on his own...might work.
    It was the disruption of the context and immersion that made him really hateful in the Zelda games.

    On his own, within his own context it might work.

    So it explains why he was shaking down lil' Link for a fortune in rupees in WW. Now why would he be needing to steal force gems in Four Swords?

    Tingle is great. He also appeared (with six brothers or something like that) in Minish Cap.

    People are to scared to say they like fat little men in green suits with their own, totally goofy dances. But I do. :)

    "Mature" Link is the Jar Jar Binks of Zelda games. Tingle is Obi-wan fucken Kenobi.

    Fun fact. I'm playing F-Zero Climax right now. That was fun.

    I can say I did not hate Tingle as much as Jar Jar. I honestly felt somewhat... ambivilent about him. As far as I cared, he was just another Zelda extra. I'm not sure if I wantto play an entire game with tingle... he's kind of creepy.

    Hah, Kotaku's reporting it's name translated as "Freshly-picked Tingle's Pink-coloured Ruppee Land", which has far more vague homoeroticism as Eurogamer's translation. But seriously, what the hell?

    Both translations are from gaf, Walshicus. Kotaku's got the first translation, slow EG got the second more thought out one. Neither are going to be accurate for an eventual international release anyway.

    Tingle is fucking ACE. Especially his mini-games in Four Swords. "Tingle Tower"? It's like Carry On Collect the Triforce!

    I think everybody hates Tingle in a way, but there seems to be a split in terms of those who love to hate him, and those who just hate him. I'm firmly in the former camp...I mean, like everyone else, his money-sapping antics in Wind Waker/Four Swords had me spitting blood, and his huge rotating-head-tower thing in TWW (manned by his gimpy brother, and some guy called David who he just kidnapped) is surely a sure sign that he is Satan. Yet the experience was much richer for it...it's one of those rare but wonderful occasions, like the WarioWare series, where Nintendo just revels and wallows in disturbing Japanese weirdness. If the screenshots of this game are anything to go by, "Fresh Tingle's Rose Coloured Rupee Land" looks to continue this. Bring it on, I say.

    who wants to bet that the next DS title under wraps is an F-Zero title?

    as for the tingle RPG ..oh well gay is a huge customer group :) why not; isn't DS for everyone after all?? :D
