Nadeo announces TrackMania 2 for PC News

PC News by Tom Bramwell

21 September, 2009

Nadeo has announced TrackMania 2 for PC at the Paris Games Festival.

According to reports from the show (thanks Blue) and YouTube footage of the announcement, it's due out in 2010.

The section shown was from the Valley environment - reportedly one of three tilesets - and despite an impressive degree of visual fidelity the target computer for the game is one that can run the existing TrackMania Nations Forever.

Apparently the track editor now allows you to create geometry and textures from scratch, and away from that there are four gameplay modes - cup, championship, team and co-operative - with split-screen support included.

TrackMania first made its name just over five years ago with its brilliant combination of instant-reset checkpoint racing and tracks that you often had to finish designing yourself in order to find the optimum route to the target time.

It's gone through several iterations since, including the excellent TrackMania Sunrise, which introduced Platform mode, and has also made its way to Nintendo DS in surprisingly solid form. We rub it.

I always liked that playing it in multiplayer decked your car out in your country's flag, made me feel all patriotic like - hence beating the French had never been so satisfying.

Awesome. I've always been a fan of Trackmania.
We used to play Trackmania Nations at work during lunch and we kept an Excel sheet with finishing positions, awarding points for a higher finishing position and creating rankings out of that. Good times.

Would absolutely love this on XBLA. A constant stream of DLC for Trials and TrackMania and you'd never need to buy another racer.

Do I want to know?

Trackmania has been pure gold on the PC since it launched, but it would be absolute perfection on XBLA like insincere_dave already said.

Suppose we gotta see how that free racer from MS on XBLA will work out, I thought that had an air of Trackmania about it when it was shown at E3.

Awesome!

TBH I'm *still* playing the current games. Logged over 40-hours of track time already. Just scraping together the last few remaining medals and clawing my way to the top of the world rankings. I'm 21,696th out of 3.65 million players :)

Unbelievable graphics. And if the gameplay remains as fun... I'll lock myself in the house (again) when it's released. Go Frenchies!

I like Trackmania, and I think Nadeo are a great firm - I reckon their huge focus on user-made content is very forward-looking (doing with racing what LBP does with platforming, but years earlier), and I wholly approve of them giving out Nations free. Nice to hear of this.
