Infinity Ward working on Call of Duty

Activision confirms project in conference call.

Activision has confirmed that Infinity Ward is working on a Call of Duty game.

"What we have said is that Infinity Ward is working on a Call of Duty title and you'll hear more details as we advance through the year," said Activision CFO Thomas Tippl, during a conference call discussing earnings for the first quarter of the year.

Tippl did not address whether the game would be a new entry in the Modern Warfare series or a separate take on the Call of Duty franchise.

The announcement comes as Activision reshuffles its handling of the Call of Duty brand in the wake of continuing workforce troubles at Infinity Ward.

Infinity Ward's Call of Duty project is likely the third Call of Duty game hinted at in a March press release discussing COD projects from Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games.

The only "Infinity" left in Activision is their capacity to milk a franchise dry.

im actually looking forward to COD now... if only to look at Bobby's terror face praying its a half decent game that will sell well enough to fill his pockets

People will still buy MW3, because of the name, only 0.5% of the total number of peoples' purchase will be influenced by the fact that most of the minds behind the game have left. And those 0.5% are those who use forums etc!

Infinity Ward. the new Rare. Can't see it being anywhere near even Treyarchs efforts myself. Bored of COD anyway, new IPs please!

    @trubadman:

Unfortunately, that's true. Just today, I was talking with a friend of mine, explaining to him the situation and from what I could gather, he doesn't care a single bit... As long as the gameplay is there, together with the 60fps, Activision will rip the s**t out of people, every single year, up until the moment they kill the franchise of course.

Isn't that all Infinity Ward ever do? Oh, apart from lose all their key staff.

Well, they've got the building blocks. All they have to do is re-skin MW2 without Commando, Danger Close and One Man Army and they've got the best COD yet.

What next, super duper nukes with a 3 kill streak, chopper gunner with 2 kill streak and rewards for boosting!? Just another chance to make a fucking mess of a once proud franchise.
  • sonicyoda #15 2 years ago

If Infinity Ward weren't working on a COD game they'd be out of work, surely.
  • icematt12 #16 2 years ago

Are the two fired guys actually looking to obtain the CoD name or just their money? Oh well, if Acti lose the name they could always create a new series with the development already done.

Not exactly news, I knew IW was doing this anyway (somewhat forced into it).
  • dk71 #17 2 years ago

so they have started the map-editing again?
...another ripoff coming (just like mw2)

IW, Activision,... should learn some things from Dice. (like how to EVOLVE a game)

They should make a sci fi future based 'Call of Duty: Future Warfare 2050' and come up with their own take on what the future of the military will be.

  • paketep #19 2 years ago

Hey, Kyle, where you said "Infinity Ward" you probably meant "the rotting corpse of Infinity Ward".
  • CHACK #20 2 years ago

I bet that was a real short conf call..."can you guys hear me way over at the back of the room, I can't see you for all the empty chairs?"
  • actionfitz #21 2 years ago

"Infinity Ward is working on a Call of Duty title"...
yes HE is quietly working away at his PC coding with one hand, Modelling 3D stuff with the other. We have taped a pencil to his cock so he can knock up some concept Art and made him ingest a Joypad so he can test levels with his tonsils...
He complains now and then about being lonely in a big empty studio, but we just wave the Bonus payment for MW2 we promised him over his head like a carrot on a stick and he STFU's and gets on with it.

    (FIXED)

    @spf_noodle.
Dude, u made me laugh so hard... epic comment is epic and made of pure win. unlike the COD game. which is not.. at all.
  • Farzlepot #23 2 years ago

CoD 1 was a fantastic game. CoD 2 was just 'OK'. CoD 4: MW was a good game, MW2 was just 'OK'.

Infinity Ward need to change tack again; they never manage to continue the momentum from one game to the next. And this time, they're a few staff short of a team.

I would say, "let the poor slaves make a brand new game for the first time in seven years!", but I doubt Activision (the usurpers of EA's crown of evil, in my book) would ever allow that.

Infinity Ward's Call of Duty project is likely Modern Warfare 3, obviously! Treyarch is doing great with call of duty: black ops but I have my doubts that IW can push the next call of duty game 100% with the lawsuits and all.
