GHWT standalone drum kits coming News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Oli Welsh

2 February, 2009

Guitar Hero developer Neversoft has announced that the World Tour drum kit is to get a standalone release.

The set will be available in the US on February 15th for USD 100. That makes it slightly more expensive than a vanilla Rock Band 2 kit - though slightly cheaper if you add the extra cymbals to the rival device to bring it up to the same spec, Joystiq notes.

The standalone drums, which are exactly the same as those sold in the Guitar Hero World Tour bundle, will be coming to Europe and Australia "at a later date". They will work with both Rock Band and Rock Band 2 as well as the Activision game.

The World Tour drums are regarded as the better of the two official kits, although if only the best will do for your fake plastic videogame drums, look no further than the 300-dollar, Rock Band 2-branded Ion Drum Rocker.

Finally.

I had GH3 with the guitar from last year, then got just the GH:WT game for christmas this year - trying to find some way of getting the drums has been aggravating to say the least.

I assume the US ones will work in Euroland, so GUTTED they're going to lose out on an unfairly marked up european sale while I help the US economy. Pretty sure I won't be alone. Sorry Gordon.

well, between me and a friend, we've had a 100% failure rate of 7 kits between us. i'm on my 4th, one just didn't work and three have had the same problem; the red pad after little use gets an air bubble between the plastic disk with the sensor and the red head. this causes vibrations making it uber sensitive. ive fixed it by taping the plastic sensor disk to the neoprene protector and reassembling it back together. watch you dont rip the wires out mind!

I heard so many people ask about this before Christmas. It seems a lot of people have two guitars controllers already and didn't need another from the Complete Band Kit and so didn't buy it or bought the Rock Band drum kit instead. I wonder why it took them so long?

I realise the issues in shipping and stocking big units of a large peripheral, but it's still a huge pain that only the original RB drums are available in the UK.

Still torn between GHWT and Rock Band 2 drums, I suspect whichever hits the UK first will be the decider. Drumming RB2 with the GHWT drums sounds rather awkward though.

The Drum Rocker is an amazing kit. I can't look at the GH one without sniggering a little anymore. Got a third cymbal for mine a couple of weeks ago as after getting used to two of them it felt off every time I heard a ride cymbal go while hitting a pad.

I did have a chance to try one out on Rock Band at a friend's place though. Took a bit of getting used to, as I ended up playing Go Your Own Way. That one uses yellow as both a tom and the hi-hat, so going for a cymbal for all of those hits was a little odd. Having said that, playing without cymbals now seems weird, but I think I'd miss the third tom more as pulling off drum rolls across the kit is awesome.

Foget this plastic crap, get yourselves a set of real e-drums and a midi converter. You can get a set of mesh head traps for about Ł200 and then you have a controller and you can play real drums!

at last......looked to shipping rb2 drums from the states , but the current exchange rate makes it un-economical.

brazzauk, you'll still need the GHWT drum kit so that you can use it's MIDI input to communicate with the game. But yeah, it's the way to go...

This is great news, been waiting for EA/Harmonix to bother with us Europeans and release the Rock Band 2 drums. Their loss.

Well, the Euro release is still pretty vague. Maybe EA will sort things out in the mean time?

Great! Now you can pay for the privilege to have that piece of shit break on you, AGAIN!

Don't buy it. Get an ION. And stop playing Guitar Hero. I mean, what are you doing, man? Get Rock Band. Come on. Join the program. Weekly DLC. Everything. You'll love it, really.
