DSi still topping the charts in Japan

LBP manages a second week in the top 10.

Nintendo is back at the top of the Japanese software chart after last week's PS3 shake-up.

Six of the top 10 games were for the DS, which continues to fly off shelves in its hundreds of thousands after the launch of the DSi across the region.

A new Kirby DS game entered in the top spot, followed by Rhythm Tengoku, Wagamama Fashion Girls Mode and Pokémon Platinum all on the same system.

Last week's leader, Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3, fell to five, ahead of Valkyrie Profile on DS and a "PSP the Best" version of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G.

Then came Personal Trailer: Walking on DS at eight - the game with the pedometer peripheral, then another version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue at nine.

LittleBigPlanet just managed to stay in the top flight at 10, as its lifetime sales in the region reach 69,000.

The Wii managed to reclaim its title as best selling console in Japan, but at 24,726 sales was chased hard by PS3 and Xbox 360, the numbers for which continue to climb.

  1. Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe (DS) - 265,654
  2. Rhythm Tengoku Gold (DS) - 39,891 (lifetime: 1,129,000)
  3. Wagamama Fashion Girls Mode (DS) - 37,411 (lifetime: 154,000)
  4. Pokémon Platinum (DS) - 36,670 (lifetime: 1,890,000)
  5. Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3) - 35,851 (lifetime: 169,000)
  6. Valkyrie Profile: Toga o Seoumono (DS) - 32,569 (lifetime: 112,000)
  7. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (PSP the Best) (PSP) - 19,048 (lifetime: 44,000)
  8. Personal Trainer: Walking (DS) - 18,465 (lifetime: 45,000)
  9. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III (PS3) - 16,927 (lifetime: 52,000)
  10. LittleBigPlanet (PS3) - 16,905 (lifetime: 69,000)
  1. DS - 113,278
  2. PSP - 43,726
  3. Wii - 24,726
  4. PS3 - 18,354
  5. Xbox 360 - 12,759
  6. PS2 - 5743

I expected LBP to sell better. Does it just look like the Japanese might like it or is it one of those games that never sell that much in a single week but never really manage to fall out of the top 20 either?
  • Dizzy #2 3 years ago

LBP is not a game for Japanese tastes.
  • ryohazuki1983 #3 3 years ago

Slipped from 3rd to 10th, so doesn't seem like its gonna hang around, but who knows. Crazy that a title called Wagamama Fashion Girls Mode sold more than twice as much as LBP and outsold GTAIV

    EG's motto.

    "Last weeks news. Today."

LBP simply isn't that good a game period. I can't even get a 4 playuer game together anymore as there is rarely anyone online to play with. The user created levels are also extremely dull (yes I've played the top ten rated ones).

Let's face it. It simply ain't no Mario 64.

    @Penhalion
Thought you traded the game in a couple of weeks ago?
  • Waffleaber #7 3 years ago

There's a new Kirby game?! Yay! I love that little pink ball

Let's face it. It simply ain't no Mario 64.

Of course it isn't LBP is 2D.

penhalion. All entitled to opinion of course. But i purchased a 3rd PS3 (I got rid of the first 2 due to hurrendous bluetooth problems) simply for LBP last week - and I think the machine is worth the money for that one game alone! Wonderful and different.

Nobody online in LBP. v funny. v funny.

LBP is the best game on the PS3. Shame it isn't selling well, already in the bargain bins at supermarkets and being thrown in for free with PS3 bundles. So it seems blu-ray movies are still the system seller, very sad.

    Weren't there 2.5 million pre-orders for LBP?

Also, not sure it was ever trying to be Mario... so comparisons between the two don't really mean a lot.

Japenese never buy western games in big numbers. The fact that there's two games by British developers in the top 10 is pretty amazing.

    canIdoyabombsforya:

Bluray is also a flop in Japan - nobody cares about it!!!!, and has not made the impact Sony hoped for. With Super Hi-Def around the corner, many are saying bluray is just a stop gap product.
  • Vic #15 3 years ago

    Spot the anti-Sony dickheads.

Super hi-def, bloody hell what planet are you living on?!
  • db3 #16 3 years ago

I think the assumption is that the Japanese are hardcore gamers. I'm not so sure, their market seems to have been dominated more by kiddie games in recent years.

LBP could be a slow burner as more people realise that it's not all about creation and is in fact a superb platformer...Sony didn't spell this out very clearly.
  • makeamazing #17 3 years ago

I personally didnt think Mario was all that... but still different people have different tastes.

Perhaps it wont do as well as Sony hoped... I'm sure it will do a couple of million, but perhaps they were hoping for alot more. Still anything over a million is generally considered a good success.

I am about to test out LBP tonight (got it for xmas for the kids ;D

Gadget Show just stated LBP as the game worth buying a PS3 for. haha. So it wasnt just me then! :-)

    Hang on a minute.

    "Personal Trainer: Walking"?
  • Pulsar_t #20 3 years ago

You lot are pretty prejudiced aren't you? Japanese gamers are free to buy anything they want to. It's not like charts anywhere else are much better? As for LBP, I don't know about you, but Gamemaker has been around for ages. LBP should have been free and for the PC, like Ragdoll Kung Fu before it.
  • Vanmunt #21 3 years ago

    @dizzy

that is probably why all the best user levels are japanese!!!
  • CannonAnBall #22 3 years ago

    EG these days....

"...if it's on the ps3 it's bound to be shit. Not tried it myself but it's shit"
  • makeamazing #23 3 years ago

@Pulsar_t Games Factory has been around longer and is much better :D

Back on topic, not sure why its not selling in Japan... will be interesting to see in the coming weeks what happens to it...I suspect it will drop out of the top ten next week though...shame.

Wonder how it is selling worldwide..
  • Pulsar_t #24 3 years ago

I think it's approaching the 500k mark worldwide. Seriously though, consider if this were released without all the excessive hype for the PC instead. It'd be the talk of indie town but people would hardly herald it as the second coming.

Lol, do you ever tire of posting FUD? Perhaps the reason you can not get a 4 player game together is because you have no friends.
