Atelier PS3 debut slated for Sept

Rorona prepares to go West.

NIS America has announced that the first Atelier game created for PlayStation 3 - Atelier Rorona - will be released here in September.

That's a US date, but the region-free nature of the console means that shouldn't matter.

Atelier Rorona tells the story of a girl called Rorona. She works in an alchemy shop run by a lazy lady named Astrid. Rorona and Astrid are landed in the muck when a messenger from the ruling kingdom turns up and demands that all their assignments in the next three years must be met or the shop closed down.

A video shows pretty, minimally-animated cut-scenes as well as free-roaming exploration. Battle gameplay isn't shown, but various characters twirl and spin for the camera, presumably demonstrating their special powers.

One of those franchises I regretted not getting on the PS2, I will not miss this time round.

Series went downhill on the PS2 so hoping this is a return to excellent form.

I liked the alchemy & item creation element of the PS2 games and Rorona is reportedly more focused on item creation so I'll definitely be watching out for this release.

I have no idea what half the words in that article mean.

Only experience of the Atelier series I've played is Atelier Annie which was fairly enjoyable. Hoping the game is slightly meatier than that. Having more activities you can do which don't cause days to tick by would be nice (would like to see some traditional dungeons) and making the ending(s) more satisfying.

Also a shame this is coming out just after Atelier Totori in Japan. They really improved the visuals in the sequel, adding a lot more character to the animations and models.

Having played Atelier Iris 2 and Ar Tonelico 2, I prefer the Ar Tonelico series to be honest, superiour in every way imo. Its a shame they recieve much lower budgets than the Atelier iris series. If they do bring the new Atelier I do hope they bring AR3 too
