Realistic role-playing drama Always Sometimes Monsters dated for May

A game about heartbreak, mental illness and revenge.

Indie developer Vegabond Dog's upcoming real-life-based RPG Always Sometimes Monsters is due for a PC release on 21st May, publisher Devolver Digital has announced.

The wonderfully titled game puts players in the role of a disgruntled person who has 30 days to make it across the country to stop their "one true love" from marrying someone else. As is often the case when dealing with such matters, it's easier said than done, and your bleak position isn't helped by your recent eviction and tanking career.

Always Sometimes Monsters will let you craft your character's gender, race and sexual preference - something that others will react to. Throughout the game you'll make various decisions that will shape your fate and the fates of those around you. Will you go full on Travis Bickle, or take more of a Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate approach? Maybe you'll find some other middle ground, the way people who aren't in Hollywood movies behave. It's up to you.

Warning: Vegabond Dog noted that Always Sometimes Monsters "has content dealing with racism, sexism, homophobia, mental health, sexual assault, child abuse, animal abuse, drug abuse, and suicide." It's pretty grim stuff.

Always Sometimes Monsters will go for £6.99 / $9.99, but pre-orders on Steam or Vegabond Dog's official site will be 10 per cent off at £6.29 / $8.99.
