Nintendo names Zelda: The Wind Waker HD release date

UPDATE: Releasing the same day in North America.

UPDATE: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD has been confirmed for a North American release also on 4th October, so we can all celebrate together. (Thanks, GoNintendo.)

Original Story: GameCube remake The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD will be released in Europe on 4th October, Nintendo has announced in a just-finished presentation.

The company also announced a free Animal Crossing Plaza app for Wii U. It's a New Leaf-themed version of the console's home plaza where players can chat to its anthropomorphic characters and share Miiverse posts. The download is available now.

Nintendo also mentioned an Animal Crossing "Welcome a Friend" promotion for existing New Leaf owners. You can nab a code for a friend to get a free digital version of New Leaf if they register a 3DS XL in the next month.

Other new tidbits include an 18th October release date for the Mario Galaxy-inspired Sonic Lost World on 3DS and Wii U, and a 9th August release date for eShop download Art Academy: Sketchpad for Wii U.

The Wii U version of Rayman Legends will include a Mario costume for Rayman and a Luigi costume for sidekick Globox, Nintendo also revealed. Luigi's inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS was also confirmed for the first time (to the surprise of no one).

A few other release dates were mentioned - 3DS crossover Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright has finally been confirmed for Europe, sometime in 2014. And Mario Golf: World Tour, originally due this summer, will also now launch in 2014.

Finally, Nintendo showed off new Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 3DS gameplay, including the mechanic of switching from the overworld to game's dark, other world. Link does so by turning into his 2D painting self and slithering into wall cracks.

A Link Between Worlds features the same overworld as SNES classic A Link to the Past, but stars a different Link. The game's story is set far in A Link to the Past's future. There's still no firm release date, beyond a vague November window.
