4 million LittleBigPlanet levels shared

It would take 78 years to try them all.

More than four million user-created levels have been shared around the world in PlayStation 3 DIY platformer LittleBigPlanet, publisher Sony has announced.

Product manager Alex Pavey told the PlayStation Blog that 4,141,742 stages have been uploaded globally.

According to his calculations, if you played the game solidly for 12 hours a day, giving each stage five minutes of your time, it would take 78 years to try them all out.

"For us the most exciting thing has always been seeing what the community does with a LittleBigPlanet game when they get their hands on the new features and tools," added a statement from developer Media Molecule.

"We're constantly delighted – and amazed – by their ingenuity and creativity, and it's so inspiring to see the level of affection that exists for LittleBigPlanet amongst fans around the world."

The post also offered a heads-up on the latest costume DLC heading to LittleBigPlanet 2. The Tron: Evolution Minipack arrives on 27th April at €2.99 / £2.39, with Killzone 3 clobber scheduled for May. Pics below.

good thing approximately 3 million of them are H4H/trophy grabbing efforts that only last a second...

Some of the levels are amazing, seriously jealous of what people have come up with. Would it be possible for EG to do a peice on those two guys that got hired by MM, and see how there are doing and what they been up to?

Did media molecule combat the achievement levels?
  • ianegg #4 1 year ago

@Widge, not really. 3 of those 4 million levels are mine, and they're worthless. I had 20 duplicates at one point and I get the impression that the figure they're giving doesn't account for deletions.

If you stick to the MM Picks and Cool Levels lists then you can usually avoid all notion of the junk levels, but I think the 4m number is bogus because of them.

Online trophies/achievements requiring actual creative talent or competitive skill are always going to cause pollution because the people who care about them don't tend to overlap very much with the people who will play the game that way.

It ruins part of the game for trophy whores like me, and it annoys people who couldn't give a shit about achievements and just want to play online.

    edit: typo
I reckon the people negging my first comment haven't actually played LBP online or they'd be aware of all the trash levels.

78 years? Shit and I'm already 28. Hope there won't be made any more.

    Oh, so it's about quantity?

i agree with ianegg, the amount of horrible levels in LBP2 is shocking (search 'wolfenstein 3D' if you want to see the extent to which some people go for a high play count, it really ruins the experience)

    99% are rubbish

What does meaningless stats have in common with reality tv, they both suck? :p
  • Kenshin001 #11 1 year ago

    99% are rubbish

Which still leaves 40,000 that are great.

@joelstinton: If you wanna get some in-depth interveiws with the Mm team, head over to criticalgamer, they've got some extensive stuff about LBP there. They even interviewed some of the top rated level creators during the final stages of the beta.

Personally I love LBP and my "worst toilet in Scotland" level seemed to go down a storm!!!

Why do I not own this game yet?
  • Murton #15 1 year ago

@PS_2010 - did you read the article? The guy explains his maths quite clearly. 12 hours of play per day, 5 minutes per level = 78 years. But then you have to factor in that LBP1 was released just two and a half years ago and 4 million levels have been uploaded in that time, that means that in theory by the time you play all 4 million there'll be another 28 million levels added assuming the same rate of creativity from the playerbase. In short, to play every level you'd need hire yourself a small army of gamers or you'll simply never do it.

On topic now. I've played a lot of custom levels in LBP and LBP2, there's some very good stuff out there, there's some not so good stuff too obviously but if you stick to the "mM picks" and "cool levels" then you won't go far wrong, visit planet is always good if you play a good level so that you can play more from that particular creator.

How did you come up with that number?

Well, according to the article, it's based on playing the game for 12 hours a day and giving each level 5 minutes of your time.

Did you see the article at all? That was the piece of text that this comments thread links off. This thread being the place for people who have read the article to post their comments on the article that they have read.

Don't worry. You'll get the hang of it.

I haven't gotten either yet, but would like to give Sackboy a go.
So should I get LBP first or just get LBP2?
