Kingdom Hearts rules Japan charts

Monster Hunter finally dethroned.

PSP RPG Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix has debuted at number one in the weekly Japanese sales charts.

According to Andriasang's report, the latest entry in the Square Enix/Disney mash-up saga sold 77,317 to claim the top spot and unseat the hugely successful Monster Hunter Freedom 3. Capcom's beast battler has now sold a whopping 4,094,939 in Japan.

Here's how the full top 10 shaped up:

  1. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix (Square Enix, PSP, 1/20): 77,317
  2. Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Capcom, PSP, 12/1): 43,196 (4,094,939)
  3. Donkey Kong Returns (Nintendo, Wii, 12/9): 20,411 (754,679)
  4. Kaiju Busters Powered (Namco Bandai, DS, 1/20): 17,989
  5. AKB1/48 (Namco Bandai, PSP, 12/23): 12,765 (351,943)
  6. Ni no Kuni (Level-5, DS, 12/9): 12,608 (451,152)
  7. Inazuma Eleven 3 (Level-5, DS, 12/16): 12,386 (377,913)

  10. Venus & Braves (Namco Bandai, PSP, 1/10): 10,563

On the hardware side, the PSP beat out big brother PlayStation 3, shifting 35,636 units. After years of chart domination, it finally seems that the DS is on the slide, with its successor now on the not too distant horizon.

just finished playing the PAL version the other day, it's the best of the series.

Of course the final mix secret ending announced a midquel (Codenamed: Birth by Sleep 2) that takes place during a large passage of time in the ending, although i wouldn't reccomend watching if you haven't beaten the game.

Edit: @Nanakai this is a list of all the things added to final mix, most were in the PAL release, the main thing were missing out on is 3 more bonus bosses:

I love Kingdom Hearts, my joint favourite series with Final Fantasy. BUT, I couldn't care less about Final Mix selling well, because they STILL won't bring them here dammit!! Anyway, yeah I agree with MattEdWithCheese. Birth By Sleep is definitely the best so far =D

Kingdom Hearts Wiki is already on my favourites lol, I visit it every day =P I thought the main thing was the new secret ending? Which I havn't checked out yet. I'm still getting 100% on my saves, before moving on to the Final Episode of Birth by Sleep.

BBS deseres to sell, i loved it, and with the exception of the colisseum, no lame recycled worlds, it's amazing how a series so convoluted, with no real character development can be so engaging and charming!

Squeenix and Disney game huge success in Japan non-shocker.

I am more interested that handhelds dominate the charts.
