  • The Last of Us demo comes with God of War: Ascension

  • theturk 27/01/2013

I'm eagerly looking forwards to 'Last of us' but yet another old 'buy this and get early access' ploy is a tiresome stain on what looked to be an unique, innovative franchise.
I'll preorder when it comes up and wait. As far as early access to a demo is concerned, that's a 'meh'.
The excitement of the idea of early access wore out long ago.

  • Could The Phantom Pain be the new Metal Gear Solid?

  • theturk 13/12/2012

The exposition captions showing you what to think were extremely similar to the kinds of exposition I've seen Konami developers state in interviews on Youtube - that is to guide your thinking in case you have no curiosity. Also the poses of the guy ahead of the POV character are very similar to those you find in MGS4, especially the pose where he stretches his arm out to stop your progress - It's a straight replica of the pose hiding the private parts of another statue in MGS4. It could be the same actor so would more than likely physically move in the same way
Overall the finish on the graphics are no different from those in the MGS4 cut-scenes.
So yes, I'd go with another Snake on the way.

  • Square Enix: current generation has been "way too long"

  • theturk 10/07/2012

What nonsense. Surely if developers know a platform will provide a secure market base for a few years then they'll develop for it.
is there more money to be made by working on throwaway mobile games? I don't think so!
My guess is Square Enix's worldwide technology director Julien Mercero has put lots of resources into the next-gen console, got shit reviews for the FF-n video, Sony decides the PS3 is good for a few more years and Julien in a hissy fit does the interview in the vain hope Sony or MS will change its mind.
"So these developers went elsewhere to see if the grass was greener." Yeah, pull the other one, it's got bells on.

  • PSN: The PR Disaster

  • theturk 02/05/2011

With all due respect, here's no PR disaster, Mr Minkley. This article reads like tabloid 'let's make news where there's no news', copy-filler.

Sony are doing the right thing by simply publishing only when they have something accurate, reliable and with integrity. More than what can be said for this sensationalist nonsense.

I respect them for it and from what I read, a lot of other bloggers and journalists, where they might be angered by the outage and weak security, are saying the same thing.

Unfortunately your 'piece' reads like a polished rant.

  • theturk 23/04/2011

There is no way Anonymous would do this. It would be PR suicide. I wouldnt be surprised if Microsoft, terrified that Sony have caught up so quickly with 50million PS3 sales where it took.xbox ten times longer to sell.the same. If it carries on like this, PS3 will far exceed xbox base. So my guess is microsoft have paid someone in a far off land to crash psn.

  • Resistance 3 demo is PS Plus exclusive

  • theturk 23/04/2011

R2 co-op was where I spent most of my time when on-line with the game, and still do occasionally. It's very good.

As for the PS+ argument. I think it is definitely worth every penny. Just think about everything you get: Infamous 2 user generated content beta, lots and lots of free (pretty good) games, some good avatars, free update download service. What's not to like.

I've never regretted it. The overall PS3 package is still one helluva lot better than anything Microsoft offer gamers. There's no argument that can be put against it - unless you troll.

  • Uncharted 3 Multiplayer

  • theturk 20/04/2011

Uncharted just got better by an astronomical factor. Naughty Dog have really pulled out all the stops to give the UC fans a game that will be played for a long, long time.

With these kinds of PS3 exclusives, Sony is light years ahead of any other console when it comes to quality gaming.

  • theturk 20/04/2011

I'm really looking forward to this.

Having seen the onslaught in the yard and on the boat, R3 looks like it's rediscovered the chaotic mayhem that made Resistance FOM so fantastic and exciting.

16 player, I think makes better sense. MPbattles become more personal, you get to know your enemy, which gets you more involved rather than just gunning down anonymous figures that mean nothing.

    R3 - bring it on!!

Having just finished The Cloud connection, I'm looking forward to some more sci-fi action.

  • inFamous 2 UGC beta announced

  • theturk 20/04/2011

I was one of the few people invited to try out the User Generated Content (UGC). Basically creating your own missions in Infamous 2. Call it Little Infamous Planet if you will.

You can create a mission from scratch, but

tThe UGC comes with around ten handy mission templates you can use to kick start your mission creations. I've created several unique missions with these. Like LBP you can upload missions for other Infamous 2 gamers to try out.

I've tried a ffew others, they vary between funny, challenging, weird and downright impossible.

The UGC beta does give you free run of a good sized area of New Marias so I'm able to say something about the look, feel and game play.

Firstly, New Marias looks fabulous compared to the first infamous. the artwork is more slick and colourful but still manages to retain the qualities that make the original game so unique. The controls are really intuitive. Cole is only marginally different from the first game, a bit leaner with different voice.

When you look at Infamous 2 and then read about the incredible customisable and multi-player features and functionality of Uncharted 3, it's easy to believe that you only need to by a handful of PS3 exclusives to last you a long, long time.

Almost as much fun as reading 'The Cloud Connection.'

  • Digital Foundry vs. Killzone 3

  • theturk 23/02/2011

Thanks for a bloody excellent article. Makes Eurogamer top dog for this kind of smart reading.

And the Videos polished it off very nicely.

I agree with the comments about Killzone 2 being a hard slog to go through - as much as I enjoyed every minute of it, but unlike other games I've played through a few times (Uncharted 1 and 2, Infamous, Resistance) Going back to KZ2 was an ordeal I'd rather not go through again.

Maybe KZ3 will be one that we'll want to return to. Co-op mode is really appealing.

  • For and Against: Motion Control

  • theturk 15/02/2011

I think it's a matter of preference. Most of the time I play games using the basic controller.

When friends are round I get out the games that need motion controllers.

But after a days work, I don't want to be jumping around the living room. I wanna relax and immerse myself in some RPG or FPS

I can't believe we are going through this farce again. I took a look at a dozen of the pictures and thought, 'gimme a break, please'

The graphics are more than good enough on both consoles.

Is it the gaming media that churns out these pointless comparisons or is it pandering to the dumbass fans that give a damn.

Don't get me wrong. Sometimes there are winners and losers in Graphics but that usually boils down to lazy developers who can't be arsed to deliver the quality both machines are capable of, and has nothing to do with the inherent qualities of the consoles. So lets all STFU already and look forward to one of the best games of 2011.

  • theturk 11/05/2009

I just completed the game. It's really good, sure the combats a bit repetitious but no more than any other game so I don't understand the reviewers grumbling. It is a real fun game to play and the gore is entertaining rather than disgusting. The ending was unexpected and a bit of a let down. You don;t mention the fight with the Sentinel, Blob or Deadpool and several other mini-boss types and there's' more in-game action than you let on. You gave s slightly dishonest review in my opinion.

It's interesting that people are generally giving it a seven or eight, which is exactly what I was thinking.

  • Konami's Fallujah game under fire

  • theturk 09/04/2009

If Konami can successfully produce a game that addresses the reality of war, then they are onto a harrowing winner and a worthy successor to MGS4 and similar games that try and deal with more than just the standard FPS spectrum. I applaud them for taking on the challenge of ‘realism’, making choices about your own survival, protecting the innocent, making mistakes, guilt, doubt, judgement clouded by anger, fear and revenge.

What happened in Fallujah was horrific but that is the reality of war.

Meanwhile MAG is being ignored, even though it is based in real world combat zones. Interesting this. no media craziness about realword scenarios as long as its all black and white.

Seems the media want to present a sanitised version of war and say nothing controversial about the standard good-v-evil shooters but get all het up about the games that work on elements of ‘grey’ which might requires readers to actually think.
