@YourSoulIsMine Haha I know right, there are more negs here than there are commenters and for comments like "impressive" and "lovely stuff".

@Korpers No, they look like they are volumetric clouds as seen here in a "sunrise" video by Gamersyde
The first batch of videos that they captured on Pro, including this one, got a bit botched since they turned off HDR for the capture but the PS4 still ran it in HDR and all their videos came out over saturated as a result.

Here are some more videos Gamersyde followed up with, that corrected this glitch.
WARNING some videos/images here are from later locations in the game and are spoilery and they are right on this link. I haven't actually looked at the thumbnails for more than half a second myself so I have no clue what is spoilery about it.

Perfect example of a game that doesn't need a day one buy. Not even an Essential stamp from EG (not that that means anything these days) would change that.
Somehow every single showing of this game has killed it for me and that was with them hardly even showing much since September 2016.

@frazzl Well, no I don't. He's not really a troll, its just his hilarious and entertaining 180ing opinions that go all over the place when it turns out Microsoft actually can't achieve something he claimed they were going to, or not going to, do. (like NOT putting a TV port on the mainboard of the Xbone console).

I'm joking that he created the ironsoldier account to do all the dedicated trolling on since THAT is all it ever did because it does appear they both disappeared around the same time.
Seriously it was always weird that the ironsoldier account is a "big PC gamer" but you never saw it commenting on an article about Star Citizen, one of the biggest upcoming PC games ever.

@ghuk Sure, that's why I ignored Ironsoldier 10 months ago after he spent 12 hours hating on that Recommended Uncharted 4 review that he NEEDED to let you know he wasn't getting. I think about 100 comments were from him alone.
He had nothing but high horse/talking down on you from a height crap to say and you know it.
And actually he has got hot headed a number of times when he would get owned and had no come back.

Its also a great day to see these amazing reviews for Horizon Zero Dawn. Why today? It was on this day exactly, 4 years ago, that the PS4 was revealed.

Its also the week cloudskipa cried himself to sleep with the nightmare whisperings of Mike Cerny in his ear saying "8gbs GDDR5, 8gbs GDDR5". :) I wonder what happened the little scamp on here?
I've seen him on the Digital Foundry Youtube channel screaming at them for not properly analysing GTA IV Episodes from Liberty City on Xbone BC, so he is alive anyway and still playing 360 games.

Edit: It doesn't appear to be good memories for some others either. :)

@Yautja_Warrior I have yet to check out a single video that chap puts out. Maybe one day.

@BabyBabyBabyOh Or maybe they have made the Killzone 2 of the Open World genre i.e a 90 metacritic, critically praised game.

Since you brought up Killzone, there is no denying the fact Guerilla Games have now surpassed Bungie as a developer.

Bungie went out of their Halo comfort zone and failed to deliver a game, Destiny, that stands up to past glories, their Halo series from gens past.
Guerilla Games went out of their comfort zone of mostly First Person Shooters and have delivered their own take on an open world RPG and it is being critically praised across the board.
And sticking with Activision, Bungie are probably not going to catch up anytime soon.

@Yautja_Warrior At least Martin details what he liked and didn't in this review which is more that can be said for Eurogamer's "USgamer" that has one of the worse reviews up for it.
Gave it a 5/10 with no explanation whatsoever why it got knocked off so many marks.

She didn't like Aloy as a character. Everything else is above and beyond amazing, translation: 5/10. ????? Double Dragon scored higher lol.

Unfortunately though in an unexpected twist it is sad that it turns out EG are actually the ones who lived up to my expectation that comparisons would be made to The Witcher, a series that isn't even THAT amazing when it comes to an open world e.g Towns with boring npcs that say one word/cough at you over and over again.
If you want to compare it to something compare it to Skyrim e.g. with its world filled with actual named npcs that have things to say, actually travel across the map to other towns and that can die and literally stay dead forever.

Sony has another killer franchise on its hands. Can't wait for my CE to arrive and to play it. Then there is the inevitable sequel to look forward to that will top the 1st entry in every way like just about every PlayStation sequel. ^_^

@jeremycomans Some people are really high here, "high" as in high horse high. You don't see any appeal? Tell that to others that go nuts (gaming journalists too) over every single New Super Mario Blank game.

So now all of a sudden just because a game is from 20 years ago it must not appeal anymore? Will Jak and Daxter also be mediocre in 4 years time when it still holds up in 2017 with only a resolution boost?

The Crash Bandicoot games were the Mario games for PlayStation of their day and he is an icon too, whether you want to believe that or not is up to you.

  • andrewsqual 16/02/2017

@Decaf PS4 and PS4 Pro are already running on similar GDDR5 bandwidth architecture like Scorpio. Were you unaware of that?

There is a lot more considerable compromises that have to be made when you factor in Xbone's more awkward bottlenecked architecture when making a "brand new" game engine for it. It has been the case since launch of the system, even on its own exclusives and it is still the case today.

Its the reality of it, quite frankly.

@drawfull Whoops, I wasn't aware of that. I was looking at's top seller of video games list and PS4 Pro isn't in the top 100. Now I just realised its because its out of stock there :)
But the Slim was definitely the biggest selling bundles of Nov and Dec though.

@young_nell That's exactly what I meant but you said it better. :)

The way I said it, I'm flip flopping over and back on the 2 different ways it could go and I didn't make it clear enough.

That's EXACTLY it. The PS4 Slim already is proof that the general public aren't too bothered with a premium version of a console either way so they may actually make Scorpio a proper new console with its own games to make sure it sells.

The only thing that makes me sad now is that the likes of new game engines for e.g. Red Dead 3 and Assassins Creed are still being made with original Xbone in mind. :(

  • andrewsqual 16/02/2017

@Fourfoldroot I think they are going to have to release it as a brand new Xbox console with its own games.
Microsoft have probably observed the fact that out of the PS4 Pro and Slim, the Slim was still the bigger seller out of the 2 because that is what the general public wanted more.

Which means if they are going to release a console even more expensive than the Pro (which may not be the case, they may actually take the hit on the price) then they shouldn't really expect massive sales from it if the original Xbone can play all the same games anyway. The general Joe Soap may not care about the Premium console.
Which comes back to the other problem that, regardless, EITHER console needs some big upcoming exclusives to make a purchase enticing.

Also, this next 8 months is going to see Xbone sales dwindle more and more. It happened PS4 sales in Aug and Sep last year before the Slim launched.
They need a separate show for Scorpio in April or May to get the message to the people quickly what this console 100% is because many are going to be sitting on the fence until they know for sure.

If it truly is a console that shares its library with Xbone and will continue to share its games with it for the next 3 or 4 years, then there were ZERO benefits from announcing it so early at E3 last year.

Edit: Care to elaborate why you disagree phantom negger? Didn't think so.

  • andrewsqual 16/02/2017

@Antropie Lol 30fps is the TARGET lock on Xbone. You seem to be under some assumption that it can consistently hit that target, which is a completely different problem.
And I'm not talking about the problem that it can't hit a consistent 30fps on Xbone, I mean the problem is that there are people like you that pulled it out of nowhere in your head that it does.
The option of locking to 30fps is nice (I never use it though if its there) but you need to achieve that target first for it to mean anything.

@frazzl The difference being PS3 exclusives showed that developers had no clue what they were doing and weren't optimising for cell, kind of how they aren't optimising for GDDR5 this gen (PS4 exclusives show otherwise).

Even Xbone exclusives, built from the ground up for the console (before Win 10), have serious issues/compromises to visuals that dampen the "new gen" experience.
PS3 games were so stunning, a lot of them still look amazing, 7 years later, like Killzone 2, God of War 3 or Uncharted 2.

Will the original Halo 5 look amazing in 7 years time when it hardly did a year and a half ago?

@Hairy-Gorilla Why? The standard PS4 should have been able to cap to 60fps on game that looks like THIS. Why is it the Pro's fault that ITS version and ONLY its version isn't properly optimised?

He shows up in a helicopter at the end of RE3 and saves Jill and she is surprised that he is alive.

@DickSocrates Except they are more than likely pissing themselves with delight that more new customers have purchased PS4s at the end of last year because the Slim console was even more popular than anyone guessed it would be. And that is clearly the case for you too since it seems you are completely unaware the PS4 Slim was the biggest selling console of the holidays last year.
Oh no, PS4 console massive sales = hilariously dumb thing to DICKsocrates.

Holy grail of stable 30fps? We already have that in most 1st party studio games since launch, unlocked fps that never dipped below 30 even. PS4 Pro is an extra luxury as it was advertised to be.

@I_Am_CatButler Actually asking Valve why they don't release games on consoles and mainly PC only is like asking Sony why they don't make games for PS4. Neither of those things make sense. Sony do make games for PS4 and Valve, as mammy people pointed out/joked about, barely make new PC games anymore.

  • PlayStation 4 is finally getting external hard drive support

  • andrewsqual 03/02/2017

@Hellotherenow Except looking to the near future games aren't going to be preserved for generations to come when you need an online connection to be able to play the game.
If there is a licensing issue down the road the game will be delisted and it doesn't matter how many backups of the game you have on external storage. Its already happened a lot of digital games the past 5 years.

Take an upcoming release like For Honor by Ubisoft for instance. This requires you to be always online. Do you think this game will be playable in 20 years time if it isn't a flat out critical and sales success in 2017? Or even in 10 years for that matter? You forget Microsoft wanted to enforce this first.

About BC, Sony tried the Backwards Compatible thing last gen, properly, from launch, with over 1500 games playable with another 1000 added over the course of a year. Do you remember what happened? Nobody cared, it wasn't worth the price of admission apparently. 2 years into the console's life BC mattered even less and the same goes for this gen too.

Sony outlined their BC plans at their PS4 console reveal 4 years ago with what became known as PlayStation Now. It doesn't interest me until every single PS1 and PS2 game from every region gets added to it. Don't care about PS3 game support for now (especially if its only less than 15% of its entire library that is available), that is what my PS3 is for.
3 months later Microsoft lied saying BC wasn't possible on their new Xbone console at all, killing the momentum of their new console even more.

  • andrewsqual 02/02/2017

"You will lose your life often in Nioh but the time between dying and revival at the nearest shrine is ridiculously short for a game like this. Games such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls III could take upwards of 30 to 60 seconds but Nioh gets the job done in less than five seconds. The speed of loading helps keep you engaged in the action and willing to retry repeatedly."

So its like most 1st party developed PS4 exclusive games then? Good to know. But it probably doesn't adopt the, Killzone Shadow Fall style where they made it that it only took 5 seconds to get from your PS4 menu to the main menu of the game, something EVERY game this gen should have adapted.

And because nobody ever praised KZ for doing that, I bet Horizon Zero Dawn will go back to the usual current gen ways of showing 10 million logos of Havok and nonsense before getting to the game's main menu. A little praise for something so simple goes a long way.
