  • Nintendo hardware sales in the Americas are worse than you'd expect

  • andrewsqual 26/09/2016

"It started off well. But sales dropped considerably in the last few years"

No, it started off terribly. The 3D simply did not help the 3DS sell in the beginning. If anything it put parents off. Anybody who worked in games retail at the time knows this.
If I remember it was €279.99 when it launched in Ireland in early 2011. The price was dropped by a whole 100 quid after 6 months BUT it still didn't sell well even though gaming journalists claimed it was now. It wasn't until Super Mario 3D Land and then Mario Kart 7, released 2 weeks later, that it started to take off in sales (the latter being the more significant release by far).

Like the Wii U, a simple change in name would have drastically changed the life sales of the 3DS. DS 2 comes to mind. It could be worse, they could have called it the Nintendo Vita :)
Lets hope with the NX they don't make the same mistake, as the Wii U, and actually stick with the moronic placeholder codename.

  • First Forza Horizon nears "end of life" status

  • andrewsqual 26/09/2016

@Turniplord You clearly don't understand. Games with Gold WASN'T around before the worst games console reveal ever happened. It wouldn't have "stopped" because there was no such thing in May 2013. And what I am saying is thank god for the whole 180 debacle because THAT is why we have Games with Gold today.

Now to correct you on the region lock thing, which I'm not talking directly about with digital versions or after Xbone's launch. I'm talking about how the serial key, included with retail versions of games, WAS going to be locked to the region of your Xbox Live account which would make the games region locked to the country. Again, thank the 180 turn heavens its a region free console now instead to the joy of many happy gamers.

These things happened and changed. Potential pricing of the Xbone is pure guessing. Wanker.

@Turniplord Wow, these people still exist? Lol, it would have been cheaper? You know something we don't?

Why not just stick to the facts that are real like the console was going to be region locked to the COUNTRY with the "original plan". Or did you somehow forget that? How about there wouldn't be Games with Gold as a response to Microsoft's momentous cock up.

@Spence1115 That exact quote with that 1st and second paragraph is exactly the same as it was after the PS4 Pro announcement and I agree.

They mentioned they are putting gamers first and then, ironically, the first feature talked up to backup this statement was the 4K Bluray drive, something about 2% of Xbone S "gamers" will ever use in 2016/17. And I mean actually purchasing a 4K Bluray movie disc for this talked up drive. Its quite baffling.

That's okay, I just got my horse's tail back with version 1.30. I'm sure graphical overhauls would be just daunting for this team on PS4.

Still even without any patches, I'm sure the game will more frequently hit its 30fps target on Pro.

@MickeyV Maybe the hint of absolutely stunning looking exclusive games on PS4 is proof that 3rd parties never utilise this in their games/engines.

Even though it was Mark Cerny that told them they be doing this at the PS4 reveal 3 and a half years ago. Look at what a smaller, lesser known studio could even do with the exclusive Until Dawn.

  • andrewsqual 12/09/2016

@Malesoun Then you are blind. Shadow of the Colossus was more next gen than most Xbox 360 games when it launched.

Double the resolution and a rock solid 30fps (rather than the 5fps dips of the PS2) made it even better with the PS3 remaster.

Have you even seen the animations in the game? Animations that need to adapt to the environment like the gravity when scaling a creature and then you are suddenly hanging onto a "ceiling" when the creature shifts direction. And still no horse in a video game has surpassed Agro either (that's ten years now by the way).

We aren't talking about Max Payne here you know, a game that is still fun to play but clearly has really aged in the tech and animation dept.

  • Fallout 4 and Skyrim PS4 mods look dead - and Bethesda blames Sony

  • andrewsqual 12/09/2016

Does that mean Bethesda won't be charging a RRRP price for Skyrim on PS4 now i.e. Rip-off Recommended Retail Price?

Mods were easily supported on PS3 so long as they were built from the ground up for the console properly. There were also never much restrictions on PS3 as far as size was concerned, there never was any pathetic size restrictions on digital games, patches, DLC or demos. Same goes for PS4.

Bethesda's post is somewhat infuriating too "Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive". That's because of the typical money you took from Microsoft which you just had to do, even if you didn't do it with the DLC this time.

"We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience." Well now they just admitted that its the way they decided to design the mods for Xbone first that is incompatible with PS4. I thought they weren't possible on the console? How do they hope to ever bring mods to Fallout 4 if it is surely Sony that won't allow it???

@lukej So true. You can stick the PS Vita in there as proof of your statement. I guarantee the Vita would have sold 3 times as much (which still sadly isn't a lot) if it were called the PSP 2.

This Nintendo XN, or whatever, is history repeating itself already. The Wii U didn't have final details revealed until Sep 2012, only 2 months before its release. As each month approaches Jan 2017, we are getting closer to this fail of a parameter repeating itself too.

But actual totally exclusive games on Scorpio or Xbone? No, we all know that's a thing of the past since E3 2016.

So Aaron Greenberg just confirmed, in a year and half from now, they will still be wasting money on "exclusives" in Xbox camp. Why would a VR game be exclusive on a console and cut out 85% of the rest of its potential market on PS4 and PC?

  • Tekken 7's Harada on the thorny subject of sexy swimsuits and Western sensibilities

  • andrewsqual 17/08/2016

@TekMerc I hope you mean "best" as in the hilarity of it.

Tekken isn't a series known for women with "huge tits". I would even put the Soul series in that category more for Ivy and Taki alone. The largest buxoms I can think of would be Nina and Anna (being Irish of course this is the case :) ), Asuka who hardly wears much revealing outfits to show off that fact and then maybe Christie Montiero. And even then these characters aren't ridiculously ginormous. Every other female is either very average or slightly above or below. Why does nobody ever complain about Lili's HUUUUUUGE sexy.......... long hair?

Some of the males in the game have a completely topless outfit or alternate topless outfit since the first game. So why make a big statement like that just focusing on the females only in Tekken???

I think what Harada means is "we are not trying to over sexualise the female characters any more than the males in the game." And as AnsemsApprentice said above me "Sexy is harmless" so what is the problem with that anyway?

Onto more pressing matters. Please let there be more music by Sanodg in the final game. In the soundtrack released for T7 so far there is only one track by him :(

Although the 2 versions of a tune for the stage and then the Final Round seems like a new great edition.

@jihon83 And there is your very problem. You missed it or can't remember how that went down. Harada wasn't phased by it whatsoever. He was taking the mickey when he said to US audiences that hated on her "I'll make muscular & skinhead character for you, she will be an Asian/EU exclusive character." Not sure what this "breakdown" is that you speak of. If that is your idea of a "breakdown" in communications then Warner should just shutdown business right now with all that atrocious commotion with PC ports and their games.
