We had an Acorn Electron, I (or my brother) had to listen to the tape carefully, if it started to go quiet/funny, the trick was to press the rewind button for a fraction of a second so the load could continue. Reply0
Unless you're the sort of person who eagerly buys pewter statues of trolls and dutifully reads books called The Moonsword of Gragarth: Volume XI of the Blood Riders of Ferax Saga...
"How much would a portable (3D) games console, web browser, movie player, MP3 player, digital photobook and generally - a high-spec palm computer cost you?"
You get most of that in a mobile phone these days don't you? :-) Reply0
"Ooh are the new Gameboy (advanced, Ds, whatever?) Castlevanias any good? As good as SOTN? Why don't they make a greta 2D 'vania on the big consoles using all the graphics power to make a great looking 2d game!!"
No idea yet, two of the GBA Castlevania's should be winging their way here as we speak, and the DS version isn't out in Europe till the end of September (but it does look good :-) Reply0
1) Bit too pricey
2) I have a PS2, and the games are either ports of, or similar to, PS2 games
3) It doesn't come in pink
4) It doesn't have Castlevania
5) I have a DS! (guess what colour) Reply0
Brings back memories of trying to load games on the Acorn Electron. Don't know if its similar to C64/Spectrum but you had to hook up a tape player to the thing. Then play the tape which sounded like a demented donkey.
Which was bad enough, but our tape player was duff, so someone had to sit by it and as soon as we heard it going "wrong" (quite often), you had to press rewind for a split second (carefully, so the game load didn't fail) until it sounded right again. Reply0
