  • The battle to fix Britain's internet heats up

  • Rev0Knuckle 06/09/2016

Most of you lot don't know you're born. I get 1.5Mb and that's during off peak hours!

This is primarily due to BT/Openreach who, a few years ago, decided to upgrade half of the new build estate I live on to FTTP and royally shaft the rest of us. For the last 3.5 years people only a few feet away get 300+ Mb whilst my side of the estate get a fraction of that. Bloody annoying doesn't cover it, with the size of patches and games these days it literally takes days to get up and running on a game. During which time i can't user there internet for anything else. I don't live in the sticks and am not directly attached to an exchange so BT's logic is lost on me (yes I'm bitter about it!!).

Local government and resident petitions get nowhere with BT/Openreach and they have now started that they're not sure it's economically viable to upgrade the rest of the estate. Yet because they own there network no one's else can do anything about it. I'm not saying sky/talk talk etc would be any better but my experience of BT is pretty s*ite so I personally would gladly see them lose their monopoly.

  • Microsoft's mixed messages at E3 aren't pretty for Xbox One owners

  • Rev0Knuckle 16/06/2016

@Mr_Writer85 I didn't pay by finance. Never would unless it was 0%. However, I still think the point stands as the cost spread-out over the period of use is cheap.

Granted, some people may not have the money up front to buy a console but then finance is available in the form of store/credit cards to those people and it's still easily accessible to the average person.

My basic point is that 430 really isn't a lot of money for a hobby. Certainly not one that we get so many hours of enjoyment from. Gaming is easily the cheapest of my interests.

@MickeyV Glad to see someone follows my logic! Console gaming has been shielded from inflation for a long time (40 sends to have been there going rate for games since the SNES days) and still people moan about prices. It's actually quite a cheap hobby compared to a lot of others. Reply +6
  • Rev0Knuckle 16/06/2016

Oh FFS what with all this "consoles are expensive" argument that people trot out so regularly? They really aren't, not compared to other technology we purchase every few years anyway.

I paid 430 for the launch Xbox One. When Scorpio is released I'll most likely buy that too. I'll be quite happy to do so as I'll have had 4 years of enjoyment out of my launch Xbox One (I'll not likely buy a S as that's for folk who either don't own a One or want the UHD Blu Ray player) for 9 per month. My mobile phone costs 31 per month and I don't use it nearly as much. The 'expensive' consoles therefore seem good value to me and the many others in the same situation. What else can you get fort 9 per month nowadays?

  • Double Fine, LucasArts audio legend Jory Prum dies, aged just 41

  • Rev0Knuckle 25/04/2016

Tragic. That really is no age to pass away.

There's very little that comes close to providing the sort of exhilaration that being on a bike on a nice sunny day provides. Just to echo other bikers comments the only consolation is that we can be sure he passed away doing what he loved and that through his work he made a positive mark on the world. RIP

Not the best outcome for this game but as a biker I shall be buying this to show my support for an underrepresented genre. Plus its got my Street Triple in it! Reply +2
  • Motorcycling game Ride release date revealed

  • Rev0Knuckle 17/01/2015

@SonicUk Agreed, I'd like that sense of progression too. It'd be great to start with something like a 2 stroke 125 and work your way up to a racing 1000 using your cash from events, rather than being gifted something like a ZX10R after just a couple of races.

Mind you, as far as Ride is concerned I may buy it regardless of reviews just to show support for a biking game that isn't all about moto go or superbikes. Hopefully it'll have my Street Triple in it too!!

  • Games of 2014: Far Cry 4

  • Rev0Knuckle 29/12/2014

@MeBrains Yes I think you've nailed it there. Stronger characters and better writing would probably fix the stale feeling. Something I reckon could be leveled at most recent Ubisoft games.

Watch Dogs is another good example. I thought the city was well crafted but it felt so lifeless and devoid of character. Plus it had some of the most forgettable characters every placed into a game.

I've just started Far Cry 4 after getting it for Xmas. I absolutely loved Far Cry 3, in fact I'd go so far as to day it's one of my fave games of last gen.

Far Cry 4, on other hand, is also great in the same way that 3 was. But there's something missing in it that I can't quite put my finger on. The world is gorgeous and the random encounters as amusing as ever but the world somehow feels stale in comparison to its predecessor. Does anyone else feel that?

  • Rev0Knuckle 04/12/2014

@WhiteUmbrella Wouldn't have put it that way but you do raise an interesting point. But the people who are likely to go on about the PS4 superiority are likely the most blinkered of fanboys so they'll never see the added value they're getting on multi platform titles. Reply +2

Why these cretins that supposedly occupy the moral high ground feel the need to wheel out the same old "oh heavens you can kill hookers, stop the sales" line everytime a GTA game gets released is beyond me.

It's a game, it's not real, there is no issue to be made... In my opinion of course.

Bah too late Ubisoft. I've been saying they should make an AC game set in Victorian London for ages. But now we are 7/8 games into the series is a little too late to pique my interest. This forthcoming game should've been instead of the dire 3rd game. Reply -1

PC gamers are going to get a bit shafted with poor optimisation over the next few years thanks to weaker (than usual for their time) consoles this gen.

I'm not particularly liking the huge gulf that's going to grow between PC and console over he next few years. I can only hope that MS and Sony will go back to starting off with higher end components next time around. All of the components in PS4/XB1 scream "eco" and "budget" to me. They shouldn't be able to eek out as long a life cycle from the latest machines.

You're right though its a cumbersome process to snap things. DVR recording has become better in the latest update though. You just double tap the Xbox button then press X. Hopefully for the screen shot feature they'll just have us do the same but maybe press Y to grab a shot.

Much more stoked for Evil Within after seeing that vid. It does look genuinely creepy. I don't think I've seen anything on that level of creepiness since the 1st Dead.Space.

I will most likely buy it and feel massively stressed after finishing it (like I do with all survival horror games!). I've no idea why survival horror games are so compelling when done properly. They're exhausting to play!

I loved FC3 and am in no doubt that I'll love FC4 too but Ubisoft really need a kick up the arse. They are milking their template far too much in every game.

I just really hope they don't feel the need to flesh out Kyrat with too many pointless mini games. All I want from an open world game is a detailed well crafted and interesting world and the ability to explore it, that's it. I don't need to play poker at every location or clear out bad guys at random bases.

There are some real bitter bastards in this comment section. So what if its an exclusive. Exclusives have been the deciding factor in console choice for ages. Don't see anything new here.

@UKPartisan Spot on, it gets right on my tits. This small amount of do-gooders cause so many problems by seeing offence in everything. What's worse is that most of the time you tend to find that they are getting offended on behalf of others, pathetic. EG aren't helping matters either with their more recent political articles.

Politics is being shoehorned into gaming and it'll ruin it. Games are supposed to be fun and we all know there's nothing fun about politics!!

  • Metro Redux release date announced

  • Rev0Knuckle 24/06/2014

I played 2033 and Last Light back to back last year and it was one of my favourite gaming experiences all year. The Metro games offer so much atmosphere and immersion levels are very high as a result. The sound design is also brilliant, and in the same league as the original Dead Space for "sh!t, what was that noise!?" moments.

I urge anyone who perhaps missed these gems the 1st time round to give them a go, as once you're passed the initial strangeness (relative to generic shooters) they are something special and deserve much success at retail.

I've noticed that all of the claimed 'isms in games in recent times have stemmed from numpties getting offended on behalf of others. • Destiny's Xbox One resolution raised after Kinect GPU reserve removal

  • Rev0Knuckle 11/06/2014

Christ some of these comments are ridiculous. There are some truly desperate fanboys fretting that their PS4 resolution (and therefore their position of believed superiority over people who dare to choose differently) advantage has started to erode. Relax, PS4 is still the more powerful machine.

Outside the usual fanboy bollocks, this is good mews that the XB1 version is getting a graphical boost. I see no negative aspects in this article at all, and Destiny is shaping up to be awesome. Nice one Bungie.

  • Rev0Knuckle 30/05/2014

Just started playing it today and must say I'm extremely disappointed with the visuals. This game clearly wasn't designed with (now) current gen in mind. GTA5 is much much better looking than even the PS4/XB1 versions to my eyes.

The game is still decent and EG's review seems spot on to me. A definite 7/10, but it could've been so much more. The inevitable sequel no doubt will be great, hopefully akin to the improvement AC2 demonstrated over AC1. They really need to work on the visuals though!

With the right exclusives they will bounce back from this. Gamers are a fickle lot, we like to spit venom at companies but the moment a stellar exclusive gets released we forgive and forget.
