    That seemed like a kind of 'yes' to the 4player co-op then...kinda...

    @Darren

    That was just weak man ;) Gears consistently scores higher and that's the cold hard truth.

    I'm totally sure this is just coincidence but it seems most of the people who claim to have preferred Resistance to Gears seem to be the 'pro-Sony' crowd...Pure coincidence, I'm sure ;)

    Come off it guys, Gears was the better game, GameRankings know it, Metacritic Knows it, I know it and so do you! (If you feel you can honestly dispute this then you are definitely in a very tiny minority (of weirdos). Even most of the hardcore SDF admit that Gears was a better game (although ofcourse they also try the old damage control of "Resistance was a launch title though so it's not fair to compare them", which ofcourse is nonsense seeing as the PS3's delay did not stop dev kits going out to certain developers long before the consoles actual release.

    I mean, come on! Even that fruitcake Apologie has admitted that Gears was a superior game and he's a friggin Sony loon, almost as shamefully dim and blinkered as headbog!

    Can't say I agree, Gears is a 3rd person shooter, Uncharted is an 'action adventure' game, totally different genres (even though Uncharted did steal alot of Gears battle mechanics).

    "The first one was pretty but shallow"

    It may have been 'shallow' but it's been the most adrenalin filled gaming fun I've had for years. I'm not (and never have been) a shooter fan but Gears was a truly fun game imo. I like to hear how you believe Resistance to be less 'shallow' than Gears? If you ask me, Resistance was just as shallow without being pretty.

    "I don't know much about GOW2 yet but from what I've heard it sounds more like GOW1.5."

    None of us know much about Gears2 yet apart from the nice water effects and few other small details (like absolutezero just said) so I don't know how you can come to the conclusion that it seems like "GOW1.5". We can all make educated guesses about which sequel will be better simply because history has a tendency to repeat itself. Fall of Man was a (very) poor mans Gears, I doubt this will change in their next iterations.

    I don't really know how you can compare Gears to Uncharted, I mean it's true that Uncharted stole alot of ideas from Gears but they really aren't particularly similar. Gears isn't a Tomb raider rip off for a start.

    " Resistance 2 is Sony's answer to Gears 2"

    gLOL! Wasn't Fall of Man Sony's answer to Gears 1? Didn't really compare though, did it...

    It's a bit like saying "this ford fiesta is my answer to your Enzo"

    "Rob did say that he's enjoying the game despite the old school design, and that he'd still rate it 7 or 8. "

    Mnnyeah but he rated Enchanted Arms a 7, Lost Odyssey is not even in the same ball park as that. I'd have given LO a solid 9 (and compared to FFXII it would have got a 36/10 from me)

    Anyway, I'm an RPG freak so I'm sure I'll probably give this a go anyway, but if it's rubbish, I'll be waiting for you at the next EG Geek meet with my +10 Bloodscalp Channeling Staff of Doom! :D Reply 0

    But I LIKE bone-headed traditionalism! :( Chrono Trigger was my fave game of all time, this hadn't changed for around 15 years until I played lost odyssey, I'm just stuck in my JRPG ways I guess, I don't like change.

    I think that's where we differ tbh :)

    Shinj me old china, just a quick question, have you played Lost Odyssey, and what did you think of it? If you didn't like it then I definitely know we are chalk n cheese ;) Reply 0
  • Kato 25/02/2008

    Hmm, I'm extremely interested in this title but I'm a bit concerned as to whether I can trust Shinji's JRPG reviews any more. I mean he gave FFXII a 10/10 (I loathed that game with a passion, seriously disappointed), he gave Enchanted Arms a 7/10 (I thought that was utter rubbish), he gave Blue Dragon a 5/10, I actually quite liked that game (it wasn't 'brilliant' but to score it lower than Enchanted Arms is just laughable imo) so I'm not too sure if I should go anywhere near this to be honest because if Rob likes it, it seems quite likely that I will not :( Reply 0
  • MS pops HD-DVD in the bin

  • Kato 25/02/2008

    "/imagines comments if Sony had done something like this."

    Be fair, MS haven't 'done' anything wrong here, the HD DVD was an optional extra, we all knew that there was uncertainty in the HD movie format 'war'. If you bought HD-DVD or Blu-ray early on, you took a risk, I wasn't happy to take this risk so I didn't buy into either format (I have a PS3 but not to watch movies, I own no BD movies) (atleast MS didn't force the format in the shape of a games console, which hasn't benefited games in any significant way so far, infact it seems to be more of a hindrance meaning installing certain games and terrible load times on many others, which totally pisses me off!)

  • Gears of War 2 is official

  • Kato 21/02/2008

    @TRUTH

    Well that may all be true to some extent, I can't really comment as I haven't played a few of the titles you mention but to me, MGS is more than just a stealth game, it's the crazy cinematics and even crazier story/atmosphere that keeps me interested. I don't know if it had the best AI ever seen, probably not, but I don't recall ever playing it and thinking "Ugh! This AI is so bad that I'm not enjoying the game". To be honest TRUTH, I know you're extremely pro-XBox and I have a feeling that if Gears of War was a Sony exclusive you would find some reason to dislike that also. Don't get me wrong, I play my 360 more than my PS3 at present because I agree that it's the best gaming platform at the moment but the PS3 will have it's own gems to offer too soon enough I should think.

    As a multi-platform owner, I agree that Gears did blow Resistance completely out of the water but I can't agree about Splinter Cell out doing MGS. Although they're both 'stealth' type games, they feel completely different. I found myself just getting bored of SC in places tbh, I enjoy the more over the top story telling and visual style of MGS...Both are definitely worthwhile games though...I guess that one just comes down to personal taste... "And realistically Microsoft should be looking to broaden their demographics if they want to cement their position as market leader. Catering to the same "hardcore" demographic over, and over again is very shortsighted"

    Seriously, when are people going to stop spouting this nonsense? The 360's game catalogue is already MORE diverse than the PS3's, the people who seem to believe it's all about shooters are either living in the past or simply Sony fanboys trying to bait. For example, how many JRPG's are there on the PS3? None, how many are there on the 360? A good few. The 360 has covered every base that the PS3 has and done alot more aswell so people really need to get over this idea that the 360 is some kind of FPS machine, it is not.

  • Saw game will be here next year

    "Ah but the BBFC have to follow the law which created them which points to "potential harm" not "actual harm"

    Surely the BBFC have to deem something 'potentially harmful' for that law to be of any consequence though, effectively putting the law into the BBFC's hands anyway. Besides, any from of media could be 'potentially' harmful if shown to the wrong person so that argument doesn't really hold much water. I find it odd that the BBFC could believe that MH2 is "potentially" harmful to adults over the age of 18 when they themselves admit that movies are a bigger threat to the frail minded due to games being less immersive.

    "videogames are less immersive than movies, due to the interactive nature of the content, which means that players are more aware that the content is fictional in games"

    All who have played the game believe the BBFC (effectively) banning the title to be a joke, trust me, If I had to leave a child in a room with MH2 or a copy of Hostel or Saw, I'd leave the game as said movies are much more disturbing.
