I'm totally sure this is just coincidence but it seems most of the people who claim to have preferred Resistance to Gears seem to be the 'pro-Sony' crowd...Pure coincidence, I'm sure ;)

Come off it guys, Gears was the better game, GameRankings know it, Metacritic Knows it, I know it and so do you! (If you feel you can honestly dispute this then you are definitely in a very tiny minority (of weirdos). Even most of the hardcore SDF admit that Gears was a better game (although ofcourse they also try the old damage control of "Resistance was a launch title though so it's not fair to compare them", which ofcourse is nonsense seeing as the PS3's delay did not stop dev kits going out to certain developers long before the consoles actual release.

I mean, come on! Even that fruitcake Apologie has admitted that Gears was a superior game and he's a friggin Sony loon, almost as shamefully dim and blinkered as headbog!

Can't say I agree, Gears is a 3rd person shooter, Uncharted is an 'action adventure' game, totally different genres (even though Uncharted did steal alot of Gears battle mechanics).

"The first one was pretty but shallow"

It may have been 'shallow' but it's been the most adrenalin filled gaming fun I've had for years. I'm not (and never have been) a shooter fan but Gears was a truly fun game imo. I like to hear how you believe Resistance to be less 'shallow' than Gears? If you ask me, Resistance was just as shallow without being pretty.

"I don't know much about GOW2 yet but from what I've heard it sounds more like GOW1.5."

None of us know much about Gears2 yet apart from the nice water effects and few other small details (like absolutezero just said) so I don't know how you can come to the conclusion that it seems like "GOW1.5". We can all make educated guesses about which sequel will be better simply because history has a tendency to repeat itself. Fall of Man was a (very) poor mans Gears, I doubt this will change in their next iterations.

I don't really know how you can compare Gears to Uncharted, I mean it's true that Uncharted stole alot of ideas from Gears but they really aren't particularly similar. Gears isn't a Tomb raider rip off for a start.

Hmm, I'm extremely interested in this title but I'm a bit concerned as to whether I can trust Shinji's JRPG reviews any more. I mean he gave FFXII a 10/10 (I loathed that game with a passion, seriously disappointed), he gave Enchanted Arms a 7/10 (I thought that was utter rubbish), he gave Blue Dragon a 5/10, I actually quite liked that game (it wasn't 'brilliant' but to score it lower than Enchanted Arms is just laughable imo) so I'm not too sure if I should go anywhere near this to be honest because if Rob likes it, it seems quite likely that I will not :( Reply 0
  • MS pops HD-DVD in the bin

  • Kato 25/02/2008

"/imagines comments if Sony had done something like this."

Be fair, MS haven't 'done' anything wrong here, the HD DVD was an optional extra, we all knew that there was uncertainty in the HD movie format 'war'. If you bought HD-DVD or Blu-ray early on, you took a risk, I wasn't happy to take this risk so I didn't buy into either format (I have a PS3 but not to watch movies, I own no BD movies) (atleast MS didn't force the format in the shape of a games console, which hasn't benefited games in any significant way so far, infact it seems to be more of a hindrance meaning installing certain games and terrible load times on many others, which totally pisses me off!)

  • Kato 21/02/2008

    @TRUTH

Well that may all be true to some extent, I can't really comment as I haven't played a few of the titles you mention but to me, MGS is more than just a stealth game, it's the crazy cinematics and even crazier story/atmosphere that keeps me interested. I don't know if it had the best AI ever seen, probably not, but I don't recall ever playing it and thinking "Ugh! This AI is so bad that I'm not enjoying the game". To be honest TRUTH, I know you're extremely pro-XBox and I have a feeling that if Gears of War was a Sony exclusive you would find some reason to dislike that also. Don't get me wrong, I play my 360 more than my PS3 at present because I agree that it's the best gaming platform at the moment but the PS3 will have it's own gems to offer too soon enough I should think.

  • Kato 21/02/2008

As a multi-platform owner, I agree that Gears did blow Resistance completely out of the water but I can't agree about Splinter Cell out doing MGS. Although they're both 'stealth' type games, they feel completely different. I found myself just getting bored of SC in places tbh, I enjoy the more over the top story telling and visual style of MGS...Both are definitely worthwhile games though...I guess that one just comes down to personal taste... "And realistically Microsoft should be looking to broaden their demographics if they want to cement their position as market leader. Catering to the same "hardcore" demographic over, and over again is very shortsighted"

Seriously, when are people going to stop spouting this nonsense? The 360's game catalogue is already MORE diverse than the PS3's, the people who seem to believe it's all about shooters are either living in the past or simply Sony fanboys trying to bait. For example, how many JRPG's are there on the PS3? None, how many are there on the 360? A good few. The 360 has covered every base that the PS3 has and done alot more aswell so people really need to get over this idea that the 360 is some kind of FPS machine, it is not.

  • Saw game will be here next year

  • Kato 31/01/2008

"Ah but the BBFC have to follow the law which created them which points to "potential harm" not "actual harm"

Surely the BBFC have to deem something 'potentially harmful' for that law to be of any consequence though, effectively putting the law into the BBFC's hands anyway. Besides, any from of media could be 'potentially' harmful if shown to the wrong person so that argument doesn't really hold much water. I find it odd that the BBFC could believe that MH2 is "potentially" harmful to adults over the age of 18 when they themselves admit that movies are a bigger threat to the frail minded due to games being less immersive.

"videogames are less immersive than movies, due to the interactive nature of the content, which means that players are more aware that the content is fictional in games"

All who have played the game believe the BBFC (effectively) banning the title to be a joke, trust me, If I had to leave a child in a room with MH2 or a copy of Hostel or Saw, I'd leave the game as said movies are much more disturbing.

"1. Whether the player carries out torture, or whether torture simply takes place in a game is surely going to affect the rating of a game. That doesn't seem odd to me at all. "

I don't see why? I think that any form of media which relies heavily on strong/disturbing torture scenes should be rated 18 whether you're on the 'bad' guys side or not. Aslong as the BBFC acknowledge that we as adults are able to decipher between fantasy and reality, I see no reason for any difference in rating.

As for you're second point, well that's just what makes me laugh. I don't recall being asked what I believe to be acceptable in the media that I pay for...

  • Kato 30/01/2008

"which makes ALL the difference when it comes to BBFC ratings."

That's why they're a bunch of clowns tbh. MH2 was a joke (yes, I've played it), the BBFC have and do pass much more harmful/disturbing forms of media. People defend the BBFC because they've only banned one other game in the last ten years or whatever. That doesn't preclude them from making mistakes in the present though, neither does it preclude them from pandering to the media in fear of the backlash over that imbecile who blamed MH1 for him killing his mate.

Well if a game based on the Saw movies is not bleak with a callous tone, it won't really be very faithful to the movies. Afterall it was the "bleakness and callousness of tone" in a Wii game that the BBFC fears may corrupt adults over the age of 18, so I duly expect them to either ban this game too or STFU in the future and stop pandering to the media like a bunch of big girls frilly knickers.

"people are pointing out the 360 version, on balance, isnt better than the PS3 version.

Themajority agree with that in that thread. "

Yes the 360 verson is better, it says so in your link, that was (according to you a summary of the other peoples thoughts in the thread) so you're contradicting yourself now. It seems you're happy to state the pro PS3 aspects of your link but totally ignore the part that states the 360 version is OVERALL the better version. Get over it. Judging HOW much better is subjective but the fact is that it IS better even if only by a bit, deal with it.

"You keep coming back focussing purely on the FSAA and nothing else. "

OK so the bold writing STILL didn't make it through that thick skull of your's, I'll try one last time with bold AND caps lock. here we go again, this is what I've said -

WITH ALL THE PROS AND CONS TAKEN INTO CONCIDERATION the 360 version looks slightly better overall"

"the fact that a better framerate and better shaders more than make up for a tiny bit of blur and a tiny bit of jaggedness"

The frame rate is actually worse on the PS3 version because it is not constant, it jumps from one rate to another causing shuttering in the cut scenes (according to your link) blurry jaggy graphics are not a good thing either. but basically you're saying that because an Ice monster has an extra rather unrealistic shine effect that makes up for all the other downfalls? GLOL!

"As I have ALSO pointed out, the perceived problems are only noticable when the games are static"

NO NO NO! Fucking hell you're a cretin. READ THE FUCKING THING FFS! The game has an AA-like effect when static but suffers from blurry jaggy after-images when moving you utter cretin, how many times must this be explained to you? Here, READ it again-

"creating something very similar to 2xMSAA in static (that means 'still') shots, but creating blur and afterimages when in motion (that means when 'moving' i.e not 'still')"

    DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS?

"Yet you keep coming back, trying to change history by saying ;Oh but I said it was a tiny difference all along"

Nope, I still stick to my first comment "DMC4 is better on the 360" (I don't give a measure of HOW MUCH better, do I?..No!) No one ever claimed it was "VASTLY" better, just that it was better....and it is (according to YOUR link), so what's your point? Oh, that's right, you don't have one...

And that's that. End of conversation.

You obviously cannot read or understand English, so there is no point continuing to converse with you, is there.

"It's funny how you keep coming back and repeating what I have already proven to be false"

The irony is, it was your own link that proves you wrong (this is known as self-pwnage) and you're such an utter dullard that you cannot even register the fact, you're a laughable little boy but you're actually starting to bore me now...

It's the fact that you keep saying things like "Lulzorz I won teh arguments, I are teh winzoR" that makes believe you are of school age, an adult just wouldn't come out with that... Also the fact that you seem to take it very personally that the majority of people agree that the 360 version looks slightly better, I mean you almost seem like you're in tears over it all...

As for all your 'facts' that are in reality just someones opinion on a forum, the same person states that with all the pros and cons taken into consideration the 360 version looks slightly better overall, so I assume that's also a 'fact', yeah?

If you want to believe you've "won something" go ahead. Go and play that jaggy blurry version of DMC and keep telling yourself "I'm the winner, I'm the winner" over and over again. This, no doubt will make you very happy :)

I really don't want to ignore you but you're seriously losing it. I think Kryon is right, the argument should probably be left here because you seem to be getting irrationally upset (in real life) about it. It's just a discussion on a gaming site, it's nothing that can hurt you, so just chill out. If you want the PS3 version of the game, that's your choice, no one (including myself or kryon) is going to try and stop you so stop getting so defensive. Look mate, in a battle of wits, you've lost and infact for the most part you've dug your own grave. It happens sometimes, get over it and move on. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site who (I'd guess) are older and more experienced than you, if you pick fights you can't win it's only going to be worse for you. If you are not 100% sure of your opinions then do not express them as if they are fact. If you follow that rule set in the future you won't have so many problems.

Again, I think your comprehension of English is the problem here. A "small difference" is not the same as "no difference". You posted the link clearly stating "the MSAA settles it in favor of the 360 version". You did just pwn yourself again and no one ever said the 360 version was "vastly" better so again you've shown yourself as a lying idiot. Yes, the link you posted did give pros and cons for each version but the conclusion of the comparison was that "the MSAA settles it in favor of the 360 version". I'll translate this into easier English for you - "with all pros and cons taken into consideration, the 360 version looks a little bit better" and that is all kryon or myself ever said.
