  • Whisper it, but Xbox One is finding its stride

  • Jim-Bob 22/08/2013

As I said I the Brothers thread, this is about brand loyalty - which can be extrapolated to Tom's point about friends/groups/community. The act that this generation was so long means that we already have a lot of preconceived notions/opinions on what each console manufacturer will offer. MS spoke to me more last gen, and already the launch line up is way more enticing. I would have bought an Xbox after E3 before all the 180's based on this generation. I am pleased about FIFA, the headset and the ability to lend games to my friends free of charge, but disappoint that the console is more expensive and is a bit less powerful. I probably will get a PS4 at some point when they give me a compelling reason to do so. Being slight more powerful is pointless until you have a killer app, and while the indie stuff is nice it isn't going to prompt a buying decision.

"FEAR 2 is guilty of the arrogance of videogame sequels which do little to reintroduce their plots"

    This should read:

"Keiron Gillen is quilty of the arrogance of a former. Edge freelancer which is most unhelpful in determing whether this game is any good or not"

Read the review and my brain speaks 7 or 8, but 5 come on - traffic whoring if ever I saw it. Even Edgegave it an 8 Gillen!

The Turok demo is available on UK Live service. Its rubbish though. DMC4 was fin while it lasted - I hate when they put short time limits on demos.

a very nice piece. I especially agree with the subtle way in which Microsoft as softened it's image. In fact it has done this in such a convincing fashion that Sony is looking more and more than like the only arrogant, money-grabbing, multi-billion dollar corporation on the block. Bill and Pete just want us to be happy and have fun playing games while Ken and Phil want to be beat us up for our lunch money and then put us head first into the school bin ;)

Couldn't agree more. I remember walking in to buy GTA111 on its release in September 2001. Not a lot of fuss and what a game. It wasquite cool knowing how good it was before the hype machine kicked in. Reply 0

It is no coincidence that Fable has fallen of the radar. But, dont be too pessimistic. I think this will still be way better than 95% of games released. Withou a doubt an essential purchase when it ships. Reply 0

This one of the best titles and biggest suprises of 2003. Retro must really up the ante with FPS competition on the horizon. The Metroid series on GC will not get the easy unchallanged ride it has on GBA. Oh, also, 4 player deathmatch is just plain wrong. Comments please. Reply 0

  • Jim-Bob 06/06/2004

Hoinestly, I bought this on PS2. I know, I know a moment of retail madness. The loadtimes during car sections were intolerable and the driving was pedestrian. At one point I left the car steering down a street so that I could go and pass a large constipated jobbie. Much to my amazement after reading Edge and (my wives) Now from cover to cover I still wasn`t at my destination. This game should be removed from stores now and the developers should be incarcerated with immediate effect. To be honest I was too embaressed to take it back to my local gaming emporium. Reply 0

  • Jim-Bob 06/06/2004

With Far Cry, Doom3 and Half Life2 all hitting Xbox within the next 12 months, Sony really have to take a closer look at releasing the PS3 earlier. Okay the screenshots are clearly a pile of piss purely for the benefit of E3 and the marketing machine, but hey, its good news for console only gamers. Reply 0

  • Jak 3

  • Jim-Bob 06/06/2004

I absolutely loved the original. Although pretty formulaic it was released following the barren spell of decent platforming that resulted from the demise of Rare and N64 collaboration. Jak11 was a attempt at GTA gone wrong. To be fair though regardless of screenshots (the game is certain to look good) I have bee genuinely impressed by the premise of this title. One to watch for platforming fans I think. Reply 0

  • Jim-Bob 04/06/2004

I was shocked and pleased to hear that this an Xbox exclusive having initially been attached as PS2 only. It is hard to believe that PS2 could not run the code given the footage of Burnout 3 I have witnessed albeit using renderware. Microsoft must have thrown some serious money at Sega. At least this way we will not see some of the diluted end product that has so far blighted so many multi-format releases. Can`t wait!!! Reply 0
