  • Bungie not bothered by Activision's rep

  • Jackface 02/08/2010

It's just hilarious that anyone genuinely thinks because Activision are publishing, the game won't do well because of the buying power of disgruntled geeks! The dent you will make by harbouring your grudge against the publisher will be so small as to be completely dwarfed by the buying power of the general public, who wouldn't know what you're talking about if you even asked them what Activision was. "I - along with doubtlessly many others - will not buy any product published by Activision any more. "

Thankfully, there's only a few hundred at most people like you (angry geeks) who care enough about what Activision have been doing to actually stop buying their games. Most normal people on the planet that play games don't even know what you're talking about. Activision couldn't care less what you think as you are a tiny, tiny portion of their customer-base, and are you forgetting, it's Bungie? Whatever they make will rocket to number one in the charts, whoever's publishing it.

Isn't slagging off this ending much like slagging off a movie in which the protagonist dies at the end? Or one where they show the ending first? The point of the game was to save the world. That achieved, Lara dies. Doesn't seem *that* stupid.

Odd, negged for having the same opinion as most people in this thread. LOL you comments twats :D

  • Rare responds to fan site closure

  • Jackface 30/07/2010

As for the love for Rare, it's more the love for Ultimate Play The Game, and love for Golden Eye. I can't think of anything else they've done that wasn't merely above average at best, even Perfect Dark, frankly. I suppose Viva Pinata was good fun. Their stuff is presented well but is all a bit scrappy to play, often.

BTW, I seriously doubt Kinect Sports was Rare's idea. MS will have demanded a sports game to rival Wii Sports and will have turned to Rare to churn it out with their characteristic sugar-coated cosmetic polish.

The Ultimate Emo Quit. What a bunch of whiners. So Rare don't make great games any more, and weren't prepared to indulge their fantasies of making a cutting edge 'expose' of the studio. Just grow up and move on, instead of this public show of toy-throwing. Reply +8

That's a problem with where you live, then. You must have a shit signal reception in that area, because everyone but everyone acknowledges that even in worst case scenarios the bumper mitigates the reception issue so completely that calls stop dropping due to the 'death grip' when the bumper is used.

Unless you're in a virtual dead zone, in which case nothing will help you, don't blame the phone.

I must say it was a good move getting a dedicated news editor. Wesley has been pretty fast at getting new developments in the industry into the EG news column, much faster than it used to be.

  • Jackface 27/07/2010

I don't see the problem - the explanation appears to make complete sense to me. They can change the controls with patches, but they can't add support for entirely new control devices with the original game code as entirely new control devices weren't anticipated.

I'm not developer and I suspect the majority of whiners/wieners here aren't either, but logically I don't see how patching existing controls if they were somehow broken on release equates to being able to add support for entirely new control systems. Am I missing something?

Compare it to an expandable HiFi system. If the existing components on the amp need a fix, you take it to an engineer who does the fix for you. But if there's no slot on the back of the amp to plug in Shiny New Component That's Only Just Been Invented, no engineer is going to be able to cut a hole out and add the plug needed and wire it into the system and add new menus to the display that acknowledge the addition of the new hole - you need to buy an updated amp, that comes with empty slots that are designed to take new sockets if and when they become available.

Same with RE5. The original didn't come with a slot in the code to accept new control patches. The revised version does.

  • Jackface 27/07/2010

I can't have been looking. Where was the massive screen-filling unavoidable clunky great Verizon logo? And why did you cut the video off as he says "Can you hear me now" which the reviewer said was as bad as the logo as it's their slogan?

Honestly didn't grate on me nearly as much as it was pitched to. I think the Airwaves spots in that Splinter Cell game years ago were far worse.

serious question: how do you spend 7 years making a sequel to a RTS-game? is it more than just the old game with shiny new graphics and a few more multiplayer options?

Well I suppose one distraction would be making the biggest, most successful and well known MMO in the world, and then maintaining that for the next half-decade as well as adding numerous huge expansions. That would keep you quite busy...

I hate to piss on your chips but I actually couldn't tell you the name of his shop and I've read all the comments. I saw a lot of references to a Mr Chips but I was assuming that was the name of the person they were speaking to as I hadn't really taken that bit in, I was more interested in what he had to say, having established he was the owner of a games shop.

I still don't see your point. It's everyone else that's been playing with the name of the shop. It's mentioned just twice in the article, once to establish the credentials of the gentleman in question, and once later as an alternative jokey reference to the speaker again.

He posted a comment to complain about a spoiler in the review - fine, no problem with that. He also posted the spoiler that he was upset about in his comment, thereby denying anyone who had sensibly only skimmed the review for that exact reason the ability to avoid the selfsame spoiler.

How is that even remotely ironic of me?! Yes, he posted a verbatim quote - that's the point and you even acknowledged it yourself by tagging your own spoilers. If he had made the comment and not posted the quote, or tagged it like you did, there would have been no comment from me! AT ALL.

Analysts are paid huge amounts to do little more than make educated guesses using exactly the same source material we all have access to, and occasionally some sales figures we don't have access to but to which they can make their desired 'claim' stick to no matter what, really. When they get it wrong, they ignore it and 'revise their outlook'.
