@dredd97 You're the bigger fool, mate. You know in your heart of hearts, that the Playstation brand will always be inferior to Microsoft. The console will be inferior. Sony will copy everything that Microsoft do, and as a result you'll have to wait to enjoy the things I'm enjoying months, or years earlier. Take the example of being able to play your music while you play your games on the Playstation 4.

You're the bigger fool for throwing your money, in my eyes, at the inferior console.

@SeesThroughAll Of course I used it, you idiot! However, I haven't used it for the past few months. This is due to the fact that there are no games available that take my fancy.

I've played Gravity Rush to death. I've played Uncharted GA to death, unlocking all the trophies. I've completed Ninja Gaiden on the hardest difficulty... twice! I've completed MGS SoL twice. I've played Persona 4 to death. I'm bored... do you get me? There's fuck all else out there for it. And what there is doesn't interest me in the slightest. I'd much rather play Fire Emblem, Zelda, Mario et al on the 3DS. It's infinitely more enjoyable. Guaranteed!

I play games on the 3DS that I can't play anywhere else. They're exclusive to that console. With the VITA I get ports, lots of 'em. And they're all inferior to the original.

You're the idiot, pal. A big idiot.

I've got the VITA, yet I play on my 3DS all the time as opposed to none of the time on the VITA.

@funkateer I know there's some idiots on here, but you really can find one a minute in these comment sections.

Are you seriously stating that in 300,000 servers, all of those servers are going to be in the US of A? Or are they going to put them in Japan? There's more than enough servers to go around, pluko.

And yes, dedicated servers means better games, and a better quality of online gaming. I pay for a great internet service, do you think it's fair that some person with Talk Talk broadband gets host in a game, thus leaving me unable to enjoy the game I'm playing?

I'd say, quite confidently, that I've probably got a better internet service than 99% of the people who visit this site.

  • DamDai 20/08/2013

I'm telling you now, Borderlands 2 will not run properly on the VITA. Even a aged game like Jet Set Radio runs at a much lower frame rate than its home console counterpart, with frequent cuts to sound and other visual glitches.

Whatever sort of Borderlands 2 goes to the VITA, it won't be the title you know of on the home consoles, mark my words. It will be inferior in every way possible. They couldn't even do a conversion of the Jak and Daxter games without messing it up, and they were on PS2 originally.

@fileunderMisc That was a nice autobiography, there. However, it wasn't really necessary. In fact, it was lacking a little in detail. You see, you didn't really specify how, or when you first laid eyes on your first Sony console, and how you fell head-over-heels in love.

What were you thinking? What were you feeling? Did you realise that you were besotted with the brand at that point?

It's little things like this that make enjoyable reading. You really feel like you're getting to know something personal about the individual. Still, top marks for effort. You must have listed every gadget you own in that paragraph. And for that you are to be commended. Unnecessary, but noted.

  • Pre-order Xbox One and get FIFA 14 free

  • DamDai 20/08/2013

I've not played a Fifa game for a long time. I love football, but I'd rather play it for real than play it on a games console. However, in saying that, I would like to try and get into one, and if I indeed pick up a Xbox ONE this year (I have a pre-order)I'd certainly make the effort.

I suppose Microsoft are desperately trying to pull more on-side (excuse the pun), and by giving away a free copy of FIFA 14 to a football hungry continent they're going some way to making amends.

My swingometer is definitely swaying more towards Microsoft. They're more reliable. You can expect high profile games to all have dedicated servers on Xbox ONE. 300,000 Azure servers world-wide! Can Sony match that? Microsoft are progressing from an already good online to an even better one. Sony are berated for their online offerings, so how good can they actually be next-gen? Will they still be using Peer to Peer?

Like I said... Microsoft are definitely coming out on top for me.

  • Face-Off: PlayStation 3 vs. PlayStation Vita

  • DamDai 18/08/2013

I have a VITA, and up to the point of playing Persona 4 Golden earlier on this year, I have since not played it.

    Why?

Because everything I own for the VITA, subjectively of course, are the games worth playing at the moment. Games such as Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Metal Gear Solid, Ninja Gaiden Plus and of course Persona 4 Golden. Having played and completed all of these games, what's left on offer is of no real interest to me. I was very excited to play the Jak and Daxter trilogy on the VITA, but somehow they managed to screw the PS2 port up on the VITA. Constant frame rate problems and UI being notable issues.

Right now my VITA is stuck on the shelf, inside its official VITA pouch. I haven't played it for a couple of months now, apart from taking it down to the toilet to have a look on Twitter. It reminds me of the PSP, a system that I went on to sell, as I wasn't using it to play games. By contrast I recently re-bought the 3DS, albeit an XL version, and I haven't stopped playing it. Mario Kart, Zelda OoT, and the wonderful Fire Emblem, have all kept me thoroughly entertained. And there's so many others I'd like to purchase, such as Star Fox, Animal Crossing, Mario and Luigi Dream Team, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Pokemon X&Y, the list goes on!

I fear for the VITA's longevity. The games are are all ports, with the exception of a few. Nintendo can provide first party support to keep the 3DS alive and thriving with original games for their system, albeit games that use the same characters on all their games, over all their systems. However, these games are fantastic, make no mistake. The characters may be re-used, and the theme similar, but the games are never short of brilliant. The same cannot be said for the VITA.

Sony struggle to provide anything that isn't plagiarized. Take their recent nod at Nintendogs! Sony can't do what Nintendo do. They never have been able to, and they never will. What they do have, with both home console and handheld console, are systems that are technically superior to Nintendo's offerings. This is what worries me in the next generation of home consoles. Sony have Naughty Dog, and that's it. Sony never interest me. They seem to plagiarize innovation at a games software level and at a system software level. They never really come up with anything innovative themselves. And when they do, it fails, like Sony's "Home".

For the time being, at least, I'll be content with playing on my 3DS XL, and looking forward to all the marvelous titles that are coming out for it. Home consoles next-gen, I'll probably be going with Microsoft. I know they'll come out with interesting features for their system. They'll innovate, whereas Sony will always be one step behind.

  • You are the hero: A history of Fighting Fantasy

  • DamDai 16/08/2013

I loved these books back in the day. As a teenager, I would often visit various Waterstones stores and sit and flick through some of the books that I couldn't afford.

I always used to save my pocket money up and look forward to a new Final Fantasy book. I would play them for hours at a time, and I'd never cheat. If I died, I would start again.

My brother and I would play them together, one playing the part of a dungeon master reading the references whilst giving the other the available options. I loved it so much.

I bought most of the Final Fantasy books, in fact, I still have them all today, tucked away on my bookshelf. A couple of years back having popped into Waterstones, I noticed that they still sell them. One of the books I didn't buy at the time were the Sorcery series, The Shimutanti Hills, etc. I decided to pick them up and add them to my collection.

Great books. Thanks a lot Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson. Your books brought me a lot of happiness growing up.

@CharmingMan I understand what you're saying, but no company is going to drop the investment they've made that quickly, and have it translate to a terrible scenario for us gamers. That won't happen. Business is there for money. Sure, if that money wasn't there anymore, then things would dry up.

Putting things into context, then. This is a supreme opportunity for the consumer to exercise a bit of intelligence. You've got Sony making snide remarks about their competitor, and you have M$ doing 180's. These companies are desperate, of that there is no doubt. They want our money. They want to secure this generation.

All I'm saying is give 'em a bit of time. A cooling off period, if you will. It's amazing how flexible people, let alone companies become when you've had time to digest the statistics. I'd rather it make poor reading for them in the short-term, because that equates to better things for us.

When a company woos a demographic they do several things to get them into bed. In short, be a bit frigid, my friend. In the end, you'll get treated a lot better.

I'm so glad I picked up a 3DS XL. With games like like Luigi's Mansion 2, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Fire Emblem Awakening, Mario and Luigi among others, I certainly have my hands full for portable gaming. And there's plenty more on the way with Shin Megami Tensi IV, Professor Layton, and of course Pokemon X and Y.

My VITA is only being used to replay certain games that are on it, and that's because they're great games. At least they are to me. So, I keep playing Jet Set Radio, Gravity Rush, and Persona 4 Golden on my VITA, but I need new things to keep me occupied. Dive Kicker will not fill that void. In fact, I rather it not exist!

Call of Duty players, eh! I for one, absolutely hate the game. I've played them all, and have hated everyone of them, with the exception of Modern Warfare and the first Call of Duty on the Xbox 360. I think it was Call of Duty 2. I even picked up Black Ops 2 recently when I was shopping in Sainsbury's (spontaneous). After playing it for an hour I instantly regretted it. I suppose I had to get it out of my system, and now I most definitely won't ever buy one again.

I can't believe how easy it is to play. I hadn't played any CoD game for what must have been the best part of a year, and I was still coming top in games. I suppose that's the reason for its popularity, you don't need any skill whatsoever. Just run and gun, and in the event of death get re-spawned instantly next to someone to kill. Rinse. Repeat.
