  • Forget the fantasy, Life is Strange finds its soul in the real world

  • C0mmander 21/05/2015

A really great, insightful article. Life is Strange has been one of my favourite releases this year, it might be rough around the edges, but the atmosphere and story presented are interesting even in more so in the mundane moments of the game. Like a TV show the mix of the quieter moments with the excitement and whimsy of the cast of characters, creates a series and the world that attracts you back. Reply +6

  • The top 15 Final Fantasy 15 demo complaints addressed, one by one

  • C0mmander 28/04/2015

@Diablo13 I agree with some of what you're saying in terms of him not quite getting some people's issues with the design of Cindy but on the other hand in regards to the actual game I feel the demo shows it to be shaping up extremely well and considering its western audience even more so than its native Japanese audience, I don't think that's the issue here.

I agree that it seems to be missed that boys and girls can be good friends but in a society where cinemas sexualisation as well as televisions *see 50 Shades of Grey and True Blood for reference* it is through media propaganda that many are jaded into believing it not possible.

However I will say that if you count Type-0 as a 'NON Final Fantasy game' then this will not instil you with confidence as it is very much a refinement of mechanics so far for XV.

Sorry for this being such a long response just my take on this :)

I just have a couple of points to make on this. The first is that this, despite everyone seeming to forget, ISN'T the first time the playable character have all been of a single sex, FF X-2 featured an all female cast. The second point is about how much I support this kind of interaction with fans, this is the transparency that is required more throughout the industry as a whole. Even telling people when they will actually be showing stuff off for this title is a huge improvement from its previous direction. Reply 0

  • C0mmander 23/12/2014

@Tak0suke You should give one of them a try. I personally for a new player would suggest X|X-2 HD remaster to someone new to the series. They're easy to pick up and from Spring will be available on PS Vita, PS3 and PS4. So they will be relatively accessible (if you have a Playstation system that is ;) ) Reply +2
  • C0mmander 23/12/2014

@nectaris No Problem ;) I just said what I was thinking. Yes I think a game like GTA might go too far, but that is their artistic vision they (R*) are allowed to express it however offended some might be. Just as a film maker is allowed freedom of expression, normally. Reply +2
  • C0mmander 23/12/2014

I think this game looks absolutely stunning. It certainly needs some additional polish, but I expect we're at least a year and a bit off from release. As for "Cidney" or "Cindy" in the English edition, leave her as she is. In a week where people have been screaming about artistic freedom we still criticise those that clearly have a vision for the character. Reply +4

  • Is Uncharted 4 the generational leap we were hoping for?

  • C0mmander 08/12/2014

I think it looks absolutely stunning. There is no denying that this is a Naughty Dog game. With likely about 11 months until release it is only going to get better, it is a very exciting prospect. There are some clear rough edges in the teaser but some of the animations here really impressed me.

Plus I can see this hitting 60fps by the time of release, if not its not the end of the world but it is something that would be a nice extra.

All I'll end on is good luck to the people at Naughty Dog on ironing out the issues in the demo and completing the game over the next year or so!

This is a great leap forward for Youtube, for years people have been asking for the feature and they've finally delivered it!
As for an Uncharted Collection, surely August/Sept 2015 (just because that's before the release of UC4) it just seems like the natural thing to do in this age of remasters. Naughty Dog might be busy, but Bluepoint have proven more than competent with their porting and remasters.

I'm confused? What's the problem here?! I don't know if I'm being naive but you can still download it a day early and still play it at midnight when its released. Its those people who leaked the files you should be blaming not Sony or Rockstar. Plus I'm sure Rockstar was also on board with pushing it back. I personally don't see the problem here. Reply +10

@Cringles88 They're still selling them like the standard editions for XB1 but they've had the message for a while that they can't guarantee launch consoles if you ordered after 6 August. The difference here is the PS4 strictly speaking can't 'sell out' because they haven't been allocated stock numbers because its not a limited edition whereas the X1 is so we still can't tell, at least in GAME which console is doing better on pre-orders there. @scuffpuppies Don't shoot me for this but I think Ninja Theory did a fantastic job on DMC: Devil May Cry they did what a reboot should do take risks, play with the original formula and make certain parts better. However Operation Raccoon City and this game have absolutely no excuse for being so bad although I never was a fan of Lost Planet. Plus RE6 was developed in house and was quite frankly an awful game. I hope they can save it, I think RE needs something like a reboot. Reply +5

@alibson I'm sorry what you say is true and free-to-play Tekken Revolution proves it. Yeah you have to wait for tickets to respawn and all that but you have a roster of characters from the offset, Haven't played the DOA free to play so don't know if that's any better. • C0mmander 13/08/2013

@CharmingMan For me its not about nails in the coffin this console will be mega successful regardless. Its a complaint about just what this console is supposed to be, Microsoft don't even seem to know what its real identity is with it. They are extremely lucky they actually do have a couple of months to put out a strong advertising campaign because at the moment it is confusing exactly what is going out with this thing. Reply -2
  • C0mmander 13/08/2013

@pez86 Well rumours circulating suggest that is exactly what Gamescom is a rereveal of the console similar to what the Wii U had to do. It is utterly embarrassing and unconventional. Whilst Sony don't have to treat it as a rereveal so will have more time to just push the games out as they don't have to change the identity of the console at their conference. May 21 and E3 were one of the worst realised console philosophies of all time. The console will still sell well but for a company to flip flop this much loses some credibility. Reply +1

@ro-kurorai I agree. It seems like they don't know what they want and this thing is out very soon for consumers to pick up. Just how big is this first update going to be that gets rid of DRM,Always online, Kinect mandate. I am utterly astounded at the complete disorganisation of such a big and successful company in getting its messaging right for a new console.
Average consumers will be confused because most of their gaming news will be from hearsay and early on many advised people to get PS4 due to X1 initial restrictions, will they be able to keep up with the loop de loops MS is doing?

  • You can earn both Xbox 360 and Xbox One achievements for the same game

  • C0mmander 06/08/2013

@GamesProgrammer What I like is double up trophies on Vita. With MGS HD you could get the platinum on the PS3 version then if you transferred the save you'd get another platinum for the Vita version, so separate trophy lists but cross-save. I think all Vita games should do it though I guess it would be unfair and all 'trophy hunters' would do it.

But yeah it seems like Vita and PS3 now share a trophy list meaning only one set of trophies which I actually don't prefer for some games.

I don't see how this is an appealing feature for X360 and X1 players, with Vita and PS3 it makes some kind of sense because Vita is a handheld and PS3 is a home console, this (XBOX Transfer) just sounds coincidental though because its actually harder to restrict it to one list.

  • C0mmander 28/07/2013

@Bagpuss I wonder what Square Enix will do, at least in house. In the past we've seen them deliver a '1080p' version to the PS3 whilst offering a '720p' to the 360. Although by XIII-2 this had kind of balanced out PS3 still had the advantage on performance so this it will be interesting to see if this happens again with XV and KH3 considering its now based off DX11 on a PC then ported to the consoles, will the PS4 still reap benefits? Especially considering it seems Japanese developers often focus on the PS3 due to its dominance over 360 in their native land. Reply +2

  • Xbox One records the last five minutes of your gameplay

  • C0mmander 22/07/2013

@Daemonic-Daz I think the similarity may affect Microsoft more Why you ask... Simply because of the price. If PS4 has more 'powerful hardware' and with the camera is still cheaper than X1 Kinect combo (which it is) they are in dangerous territory in the long run with ending up too similar.
But it does mean it will be all about the games and no offence to Microsoft because they've produced some great stuff, the last 3 years have been fairly PS3 exclusive dominated. I feel like Sony has the advantage having a large portfolio of first party they have built over the last decade. Though MS have some good third party exclusive content for the FPS and sports crowd. It will very much be a 'what do I want to play' and 'what does it better' race this gen including small things like how long you can record for.

@dogmanstaruk Agreed. Plus of course not all Vita games are even in that price range. You've got PS mobile games like 69p, games like Machinarium which are like £2 there's a great range of content and almost all of it is quality. I totally agree all those that complain about pricing need to realise there is often quality even in the smaller titles and sometimes a more enjoyable experience that the games being churned out on console. Finally a games journalist not saying handhelds are dead! I love my Vita and 3DS and play them more than I do my consoles simply because its easier and more accessible. Particularly the Vita, because I think one of its most underrated features is when the battery runs out whilst your playing you just have to charge it up and you start where you were before it turned off, something I wish 3DS had as well!

In the next few months I can see Phoenix Wright, Pokemon X, and Zelda: Link between worlds (Is that what its called?!) plus for Vita Tearaway, Killzone, FFX and X-2 HD as well as Dragon's Crown and probably importing Muramasa: Rebirth it will be a good run up to the end of the year, particularly as my Vita becomes the supposed 'ultimate companion' to the PS4.

Also really happy to hear the Vita integration is a lot more seamless.
Wonder if there will be many differences between the X1 and PS4 versions of multiplats due to using the PC first then porting down, even the console only FFXV and KHIII are being developed in a very 'PC way' due to the x86 architecture in the consoles.
