Yep, it's hard not to get jaded by the constant bombardment of weird and wonderful viruses, bugs and diseases that that pop up every year or two.

The latest in line is seemingly no more/less worrying than any other but bearing in mind that plagues have wiped out billions of people perhaps we should start taking more notice.

    No?

    Ah you're probably right.

Is this the one carried by chickens that's broken out in China.

Basically the worry is that if a person already has some form of the flu virus (compromised immune system and all that) comes in contact with the chicken flu (can't think of the acual name) the two will combine and mutate into something much worse that we have no way of curing currently. If you thought SARS was bad this would be mental.

We're all going to die. Let's just face the cold facts, if the bugs don't get us the out of control military AIs will.

Oh, and I got a tax form in the post today that asks for all my earnings since Sept 2002 (like I remember all the various payments I've recieved since then, time to traul the bank statments for all money I've handled in the last 18 months) which is a bit rich being as I've been a student and been paying the gov_t £1000 for the privilege (which better be tax deductable from my total earnings as it would just be screwed up for the gov_t to tax me a grand for higher education based on both my parents having jobs and then expect me to pay tax on the money I earn to pay off their student fees) and is also one of the signs of the apocalypse so time to build that nuclear bunker everyone!

If we're all going to die then can it wait until Monday? I'd hate to die just before the weekend.

Well, the "common" influenza viri are happily mutating bastards anyway, so I wouldn't worry about them mating with chicken flu. By the way, the common flu usually kills tens of thousands (maybe even hundreds of thousands, don't know the exact figures) of people per year which doesn't seem to worry people too much.

Now genetically engineered murine small pox, that's a completely different matter... /shudders

The Republic of Turkey or Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye), is a bicontinental country located mainly in Asia Minor, with 3% of its land located in the Balkans. Its strategic location straddles the Bosphorus straits that separate Southwest Asia from Southeast Europe.

    Romania is next, I'm sure.

I don't even mind, it would be better than to live with this freaking breathing problem I'm experiencing. I need air! And sleep!

christ what a load of twaddle....

I was in Asia for SARS and I have been in thailand for the whole of the bird flu thing.

I wish they'd stop scaring the public with this crap.... does seem like just another ploy to keep you on your decadent dying continent.

Talking about deadly viruses, can anyone remember a flash game where you have to make a virus pandemic to destroy humankind?

This could be what the media were hyping up bird flu to be (60 dead in Mexico, outbreak in New York), but they're all too busy with that singing spinster on their front covers.
