Okay chaps, getting in on the spirit of things, I've duplicate copies of these on my CD shelf:

    Mastodon - "Blood Mountain"
    Rush - "Fly By Night"
Iron Maiden - "Somewhere In Time" (it's a really old pressing of it, think it's a North American copy of it too).

If anyone wants any of these, PM me and I'll stick them in the post for yez.
Every single one of these records is ESSENTIAL! If you don't have them, take our fluffy avian friend's wing off :D
I've tried and tried to get to grips with Mastodon (the future of metal so I'm told) but I just can't :o(
Somewhere in time is a monumental classic though.
On a side note, did anyone see the remaining members of Death are apparently doing euro gigs with proceeds going to Chucks charity? Not sure who would be on vocals.
Also Control Denied release which Chuck had laid down vocals and guitar before his untimely death :o(
Mehstodon. I found I could listen to one or two albums but never really got into 'em that much... and then I saw 'em live.

    And hated them. :/
Yep: they're either boring and shite, or shite and boring.

I've seen them play two astonishingly great live shows and about 5 really boring ones.

Don't know if it's the venue or the mood I'm in or what, but sometimes they're just ball-bustingly heavy.

    Can't wait!
A very promising review from the Metal Hammer Podcast

I was never a fan of Howard era KSE, so I really cant wait for this. Jesse is one my favourite harsh vocalists ever.

Disagree. I really like it. Pretty generic - but then it is a single.

I like it! Always good to hear new stuff from Jesse. Looking forward to the album anyway, but this is a good sign to me.

The Empire Shall Fall says they're working on Vol.2 of their EP as well which is also exciting. If you like Jesse's stuff and you haven't heard any of The Empire Shall Fall then you absolutely must.

    @EndlessSolitude

Just received Phantom Antichrist in the post, very much looking forward to listening to it this evening!

    Many, many thanks again.

Enjoying the new Helloween. It's got a much 'happier' sound than the last few releases. :)

Not really 'metal' (more hard rock), but a seriously underrated gem of a record.

Re the new Killswitch song, I'm really digging it. Love the chorus. Also for those who are wondering they are touring the UK in May.

@FuzzyDuck: Glad it got through before the end of the month.

(For my part, I've recently been listening to the song 'Everlasting Flame' from their Endorama album. It's strange: the song is quite different from their usual style - yet it is very moving.)

New Cult of Luna album Vertikal is excellent, a real return to form after the mostly boring Eternal Kingdom.

Yeah I didn't have much love for Eternal Kingdom but on first listen, this is excellent!

    As is Phantom Antichrist!

I actually think Vertikal is the best thing they've done since The Beyond, but yeah Eternal Kingdom was particularly disappointing.

^ That isn't even the best song on the album! Spectacular record, likely to be in my top 5 of the year.

Shame they appear to have quietly parted ways with Klas. Johannes voice is almost identical, but without Klas they have zero stage presence. As a live band they're not a patch on what they were on the Beyond and Salvation tours now.

I agree the new Cult of Luna is fabulous.

Best album I've heard in ages might be the new Omnium Gatherum album Beyond though. Got the promo from the label this week (I write some music reviews and we get advanced promos) and it's really rather fantastic.

I thought New World Shadows was pretty great, but Beyond (as the title suggests) goes further. Fabulous melodeth.

I'd place it just below Salvation and Somewhere Along the Highway, which I regard as their two best albums, but it's definitely more interesting to me than Eternal Kingdom was.

After a few more listens I'd say my favourite track is now either Disharmonia or In Awe Of. The bonus track (The Flow Reversed) is good as well, and makes for a better closer than Passing Through, so I went and ordered the limited edition CD.

It needs to be looked through as one stands [s]cock[/s] head and shoulders above the rest!

I recorded a guest solo for the band "Volharding" last night. The album is due out this year, I'm not sure how big a production it's likely to be but it was a fun project nonetheless.

    Check it out :)

Well if anyone was interested, Sylosis have been added as direct support for the entire killswitch engage euro tour. Good on them. Seen them recently in brum and they were brilliant.

I'm about 10 days late in discovering this but wanted to share the fact that Southern Lord Records have put their entire catalogue on Spotify.

    Goatsnake
    Black Breath
    Sunn0)))
    Wolves in the Throne Room

And many more. It's like Christmas again.
