Oh yeah, and I don't know if you're in the UK or anything but it's actually already been out for 2 weeks.

But Oceanic is my favouritist ever album. Panopticon came out on the same day as Cult of Luna - Salvation and I have to say that the Cult of Luna album is superior for me, I really like their new style: Epic, hard yet totally ambient too.

    @Mr Evul Satan-duuude:

I've read some about Red Harvest lately and came to the conclusion that I ought to like them. Will check out. Saw Zyklon play with Morbid Angel um.. two years ago or so. Was fun! The singer had carved an upside down cross on his chest and he had a fan blowing at his hair throughout the whole concert. Was almost like watching an Immortal video, minus the panda paint.

Turns out that Cult of Luna is playing in Gothenburg on wednesday. Great? No. I'll be stuck working in another town til thursday. F*CK. It's not fair :(

    And Slayer still sucks.

Yeah! Jane Doe. One very good album... and holy crap Converge's YOU FAIL ME is probably my favourite album of the year. It's just so damned demented.

    (I'm lying obviously .. I can't decide which of Neurosis-EyeofEveryStorm/CultofLuna-Salvation/ISIS-Panopticon/Converge-YouFailMe I like best .. I can't. I love them all equally, I wish they were my children)

Hmm, I like all of them.

I think my best find of the year is Burst - Prey on Life. Fantastical.

In my playlist over the last few days:

Esoteric - Subconscious Dissolution into the Continuum

Ultra-slow, ultra-depressive doom metal. Not that there is much interest in this type of music; it's one of the least popular metal sub-genres.

If anyone is brave enough, there are some streaming MP3s here.

I've got a couple of Nightwish albums, impressive technically but a little too cheesy for my tastes, both musically and lyrically. They're sort of a cross between opera, power and gothic metal /shudder/

Still nice to listen to now and again though :-)

Have you got Disco Volante though?
No... Does that stop me from being cool? :'(

Well was surprising to see someone mention Opeth on these boards.

You hear much Bloodbath? Another highly musical swedish grind band.

To the OP, I think you missed a Genre when you said it can be about raw emotion.

If you not done so already, get a hold of some early Goldie DnB, or even Aphex and Come to Daddy. It was those artists that turned me onto DnB, but also listening to Sepultura fast forwarding to the end on a tape machine.

I tell you fast forward Roots by Sep on a tape machine where you can hear it being played, and its a DnB album. Really opened my mind at a time when I was being a bit close minded about music, which considering I came thru my teens listening to The Smiths really shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Can still sing several Smith's songs from begining to end and not even listened to most of them in a decade.

Yeah I think they have a couple of albums, breeding death is one, resurrection thru something is the other, they have one released this year too, nightmares but i have not heard much from it yet.

Isn't Bloodbath a guitarist from one prominent swedish band and a drummer from another, or am i mixing up my grind core here.

    Electric Wizard is goood!

I used to hang around with those guys, back when I was in B'mth Uni, the Bassist (Bagshaw) lived just down the road from me.

Have you listened to their music though? That's what counts, man! Heh.

I had no choice on occasions, they used to practice in Bagshaw's flat, much to the complaints of the Furniture Shop owner that was underneath

Extreme doom is something of an aquired taste. You also need to immerse yourself completely into the music, otherwise it can be a struggle to listen to.

They're not my favourite doom band either, mind.

Actually, Mikael Åkerlund from Opeth has quit Bloodbath. Too busy with Opeth (which happens to be one of my absolute fave bands). Peter um um.. wassname, from Hypocrisy growls on the latest album.

One of my friends is really into Esoteric, I think they're playing in Olso pretty soon and he was thinking of going there *hint hint Vermster* *checks* Nov 12th @ Betong.

Nightwish. Oh man. I LOVE cheese but they are just too much. Saw them live at Wacken a few years ago though and it was fun watching drunk Germans doing the Macarena-dance to their music :D

The new Isis-album still rocks my world. Oh, and Cult of Luna is doing another, larger Scandinavian tour in december. Yay.

Like I say, Esoteric are ok but I'd rather listen to Sunn or something.

Heh, from all accounts Sunn are even less accessible than Esoteric :D

I have no interest in the stoner/drone stuff, though.

Hi, Aaron Turner here from bands such as Isis, Old Man Gloom and Lotus Eaters.

These Arms Are Snakes, Pelican and Botch aren't half bad are they? Anyone got anything similar?

It's been a long time since I've been in this thread...

Arch Enemy Dead Eyes See No Future EP
    Dark Tranquillity Damage Done
    God Forbid Determination
    Opeth My Arms, Your Hearse
    Mastodon Leviathan

... are currently floating my boat... and I *had* to listen to Killers (Maiden, not the shit pop band) this morning. Classic.

Nah... old ones, but I've just got into 'em really.

My Arms, Your Hearse is awesome.

The Arch Enemy CD's pretty good :)
Damage Done's a pretty good CD, too - I've got a few of their earlier albums and the progression is pretty sweet. A band that reminds me of them is Dismal Euphony.

And, of course, "My Arms, Your Hearse" rocks.

What's the Mastodon like, I don't think I've heard it yet?

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

Mastodon are the most overated band around at the moment. >:(

/is annoyed that everyone else loves them and he just doesn't get it...

Anyway, got the new Strapping Young Lad album last week. Album of the Year (so far). 45 minutes of sheer brutal insanity.

I've also been buying the Ayreon reissues which are all fantastic.
