I'm gnawing on a bar of lard this evening. I got myself an extra bar so I can lube up my whole body and, after I've finished standing outside the new woman next door's window flexing my pecs until she stops screaming, I shall slide around the streets on my greased up body.

Normally I wouldn't do such a thing but my protein powder isn't very good lubrication.

Bah, I had to give a slice of my pizza to the missus.

I should maybe have a chocolate bar to make up for it.

Definately eat the chocolate I say! And savour it!

Oh boy, eating flapjacks fresh out the oven while relaxing in bed with a warm breeze flowing through my bedroom window...bliss.

No wonder so many people are fat.

Yes, yes it is. I got me down 5 stone in a year. I'd still be a blob were it not for that.

Gone from 16.5 to 14 stone over the last year or so, did get down to about 13.5 at one point, mostly by random patches of low-carbing and generally half-arsing about - would like to lose the same again. I don't have much of an issue eating less - and I'd rather eat less of everything than all I want of a smaller selection of things not containing evil carbs. Booze is probably my main weakness, but that can be worked in where absolutely necessary :)

And I don't know how the Guinness book of records can allow his entry - all he's done is injected his arms with oil like any number of dickheads, and he's not even the biggest armed moron this year.

    I have a question.

Over the last month/6 weeks I've been trying to lose weight but just cutting down on food. I have a set of electronic scales that measure my weight, fat and BMI.

Now, while I've lost 6 pounds (most of it in the last 3 weeks) my fat content has increased. Am I doing something wrong?

My only exercise is cycling about 100km a week.

Impedance. Its not the most accurate but its an indicator.

I wouldn't trust it. A pound a week seems quite healthy for weight loss, stick at it!

We have some scales that do the same. I think it can vary dependent on your level of hydration, and throughout the day. I always try to weigh myself on it at roughly the same time of day and under similar conditions if possible.

You could always try the good old tape measure round the waist to track weight loss if you're disbelieving of the results. They never lie!

@Fab4 this is a stab in the dark, but: do the scales measure absolute fat or relative fat levels? It could be that you're losing muscle mass doing so much cycling, which has caused your fat ratio (relative to the muscle mass in your body) to go up?

I'd go with measuring hip-to-waist ratio, as suggested. Its' way more accurate, and is a good predictor of developing complications from being overweight in its own right. I think those scales are bollocks.

Im not sure what the scales measure, but that was my concern that the exercise that I do do (Heh, I said do-do :D) was somehow eating into my lean mass. I might have to up my protein intake...or basically work out a proper diet, rather than just denying myself food.

I know i'm losing weight...that I don't disbelief. My watch is looser and my trousers a little less tight. Was just concerned about the %fat spike.

You would expect to only lose muscle mass with very rapid weight loss, starvation basically. At the (healthy) rate you're losing weight I doubt your body would have gone to protein to get it's calories. If your trousers are looser around the waist, that is definitely not down to losing muscle mass!
