My mum got it last year (she's 60) and it knocked her about big time. I've never seen her as ill as she was then.

A good friend of mine has got it too, about a few days ago. He's going through the worst of it now, he's got spots all over his skin, including on the feet (he can hardly walk), on his balls and apparently in his throat.

They itch like hell and he's not allowed to scratch, in fact he's not even allowed to bathe for a few days.

Hmm maybe I don't have mumps then, I felt terrible overnight, face was so sore I couldn't lay my head down unless it was right on the forehead.

Had some ibuprofen and the pain is much better but still swollen. Less than before tho.

I had mumps 6 years ago, the first symptom was an ache in the jaw muscles followed by swelling of the glands. No temperature or sore throat to speak of, not even much of a headache, just an incredibly sore jaw. Wasn't all that bad really.

The orchitis I got straight after, now that was bad. Kill me humanely rather than suffer this bad.

I got chicken pox when I was 15. It was terrible, but not life threatening.

Mumps of the nuts basically. Or in my case, one nut. Went the size of a navel orange. Extreme fever and pain for a week. Didn't actually move apart from hobbling to the toilet after a few hours psyching myself up to the challenge.

@elstoof Sure you haven't accidentally twisted your ball off? It's been known to happen.

Nah, one of my balls has been a bit swollen this week as well as my fucking head! Unpleasant is not the word, and it's been a waste of time as far as a short break from could be.

Pretty sure I know what happened Joe, it's a common complication in adult men who contract mumps. I didn't even have it as bad as it could have been, just the one knacker took the hit - one guy at Uni had to be hospitalised so measures could be taken to stop him becoming infertile. Both of his guys swelled up big enough to resemble a brace of freshly plucked pheasant. Fuck knows what he went through, I was messed up for months after my relatively tame bout.

They aren't sure if its mumps or parotitis

Either way I'm isolated for a week.

Hoping it doesn't turn into the ball ache thing :-(

Sore throat and headache doesn't sound like first symptoms of mumps to me. The tingling ache right in the jaw bone and muscle was my first symptom. GP's are also clueless on mumps, the amount of misinformation I got from mine when I had it was astounding.

My dad seems to think I had MMR but he isn't 100%. Maybe 95%. I guess it's not foolproof anyways.

    Wait and see I guess.

    Boss is gonna be pissed.

How old are you? MMR wasn't given until 1988, before then it was a seperate jab for measles and rubella, there was no vaccine for mumps until the MMR. That's why there was the epidemic 6 years ago at universities, people born between 1980 and 1988 are at high risk because they aren't vaccinated and had less chance of contracting the virus naturally like people born pre 1980 were.

32... But I was living in Saudi Arabia between 85 and 94.

My dad is a GP so he generally stuck us with any vaccine he could get his hands on. I do wonder tho, his memory ain't what it used to be.
