Has anyone else mentioned that the Prime lending library is coming to the UK?

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=sa_menu_kds5?ie=UTF8&docId=1000659983

    Edit: Wrong link.

Shame the Prime Lending Library is pretty shit. One rental per month, and the selection leaves a lot to be desired.

    Arrives tomorrow, woo!

Not had an e-ink reader for ages, since I sold my trusty Sony 505. Never should have sold it really, although I inexplicably made a profit on it - Sony had just released the 600, which was significantly worse than its predecessor, so demand shot up for my older model :)

Has anyone got an old kindle they want a little cash for? I've got a series of long flights coming up and broke mine a while back.

Is the Kindle Fire a decent prospect, over the Paperwhite? It says 'reduced screen glare' but I'm slightly sceptical if it'll look as good (or thereabouts) as the standard Kindles.

In my opinion, the Pearl e-ink screens cannot be matched by other displays for reading. The Fire is a nice multimedia tablet that is moderately good at a few things, especially if you buy lots of different content from Amazon. The Kindle is excellent at one thing.
If you're not planning a lot of night time reading, have you considered the Touch?

Did you try and get a replacement from Amazon?

Couple of mates of mine have broken theirs and Amazon provided free replacements even though they were out of warranty.

One guy even got a newer model.

Yeah, but at least on amazon.de, pre-orders are so massive that you'll only get it weeks later. Just a warning. :)

Tempted as well, but I've just read a row of different books that all were particularly well made, with cloth binding, attached ribbon and and carefully chosen typography, which made me question the whole thing.

My Fire should be arriving this morning. I was on the fence about a Nexus when that came out, as all I really need is something I can stick PDFs on and maybe answer the odd mail with, but when Amazon announced one... well, I hate that big company slightly less than Google. Unfortunately not getting home to actually play with it until Monday now :(

EU aims to close Amazon Tax loophole.

I love my kindle and Amazon have always been decent for me but paying 3% tax in Luxembourg while charging 20% here is a bit off. It'll be interesting to see what happens if the loophole is closed. I'd rather see EU wide e-book and paper-book vat parity though.

Just a heads up that you can get it (Kindle Fire HD) for 149 if you use a Tesco Code before the 28th.

It does suffer from uneven light at the bottom, but it's hardly significant enough to be a bother. Got the cover too, fits the PW very well - much better than the clumsy and bulky previous official covers I've seen - and does the screen on/screen off thing when you open/close, ala the iPad. Apparently, if you have the ads version in the US, you have to open the cover then swipe to continue - that alone would be reason enough not to have the ads version for me.

The advice in the brightness slider is odd though. It says, in brightly lit areas have a high a brightness, in dimly lit rooms have a lower brightness. Err what? It's the opposite for me, although in dark rooms I will use it at the lowest point where I'm able to see it.

Curry's, PC world and Waterstones will be selling them in store, so it might be worth checking the high street on release day.

Yeah, there's a bit of bleed on mine on the very top brightness. Hard to know if that's the same as what you're talking about or because the postman Just SHOVED MINE THROYGH THE DOOR EVEN THOUGH I WAS OUT!

It is lovely though. Heavier than I expected but I quite like that. No plug, assume an older Kindle will be fine?

I got it second hand, it's a first gen one anyway so there's no chance.
